Story
Meet Archie! Age: senior Weight: 10 pounds Good with: kids (I live with two small humans and get along just fine with them), dogs (I prefer smaller dogs, but only bark at bigger dogs so they know who the boss is), I haven't met any cats just yet. House trained: yes, but sometimes I mark, so I wear a belly band so I don't have any accidents, and I really don't mind it one bit. It's easy peasy! Crate trained: yes Hey folks, Archie here! I’m a peppy little frenchie-chi mix. Look at these ears! Adorable!! I’m a friendly little fella and always ready to meet new human friends. Feel free to pick me up! I’ll lick you in the face and snuggle on your lap. I enjoy sleeping on the couch (the top cushion please! I am the boss after all), going for walks and sniffing around the yard. One of my favorite things is chasing toys and ripping all the stuffing out of them! Grr, I’m tough! At night and when the humans are gone for a long time, I snooze in my crate and it's my cozy place. Now that it's getting a bit colder, you can find me under the blanket. I hardly bark, so would probably do fine in an apartment. I’m all ready to go to my new forever home now, so come meet sweet little me! I promise if you make me a part of your family I'll show you all of my love! *Archie is being fostered in Madison, WI. Story
Meet Kartwright! Age: senior Weight: 21 pounds Good with: Dogs, cats (kids unknown, since I don't live with them, but older kiddos I'm sure would be right up my alley!) House trained: yes Crate trained: no need for a crate, since I'm pretty perfect! Special needs: deaf and blind, but don't let that scare you away! I get around juuuust fine! I also take some thyroid meds, but that's easy breezy too, and it keeps me healthier! Hey there, I'm KartWright, but my foster mom calls me Kart, and my foster brother thinks I'm a Huckleberry. No big deal though, since I'm deaf and blind, so names are just names, right? Anyway, don't let my disabilities fool you, I'm still a total adventurer! I can find my way around the house in no time, and when I want something, you'll definitely know about it, because I'm not afraid to use my voice. Food, outside, attention - you name it, I want it! I'd prefer if my new human was home more often than not, so I can get all the things whenever I want! I'm an old guy now, and foster mom says I deserve to get all the things! Oh, and did I mention I love blankets and couches? Like, seriously love them. Sleeping next to you in bed would be paw-some. I'm also super chill with other dogs, like, any size, doesn't matter. I'm currently crashing with six of them, so I'm a pro at doggy playdates. I'm not too shabby with cats either, since I enjoy my alone time, so we can just hang out and do our own thing. I'm house-trained, as long as you stick to a schedule, and car rides are a breeze, but leashes, not so much. My foster mom says I'm a laid-back pup that just wants to be happy, so if you're looking for a chill buddy! *Kartwright is being fostered in Columbus, WI. Story
Meet Lily! Age: senior Weight: 10 pounds (I'm just an itty bitty!) Good with: adults House trained: I use potty pads, but still have accidents sometimes. I'm working on being the best girl I can! Crate trained: in my foster home I am gated in the kitchen if my foster parents go away. Special needs: I can't hear a dang thing from a lifetime of chronic ear infections, and my ticker isn't that great, so I can't have some procedures that are recommended. Let me give you a little back story about how I came into rescue. I was found left alone after my owner passed away. I was very scared and hungry! I'm working on trusting that people want the best for me. I'm still a bit timid and don't always understand that I'm not going to be hurt by humans, and they just want to love me. It takes me a bit to warm up, but foster mom says after months in foster care I'm really starting to enjoy butt scratches and car rides. I'm still not a fan of being picked up and my fear of it makes me a little snappy about it, but if you use a blanket to pick me up, I'm more comfortable with it. Foster mom says she can see my desire to be a loving pet! I have even started to show signs of wanting to play with her! I'd thrive in a home that is low key, where I can be the only pet, as I don't have many socialization skills with other pets. I'll need my forever people to help me understand that I'll always get fed, and work with me on some of my food guarding. I get super excited about meal times and will run in happy circles, but I also seem to think it might get taken from me. I'm absolutely going to need a lot of patience and understanding from my new family, but I promise that once I settle in, and we work together, I can be the best girl. I WANT to be the best version of myself for you! *Lily is being fostered in New Glarus, WI. Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Story
Meet Smalls! Age: Senior Weight: 8 pounds Breed: Chihuahua mix Good with: Dogs of all sizes, cats, older children House trained: When kept on a good schedule - we are using belly bands as back up Crate trained: Yes Special needs: Old healed injuries to his hips/pelvis Smalls is an amazing little guy and would be a perfect addition to your household! With his long slender legs, soft brown eyes, and adorably big ears, he resembles a tiny fawn. He is a friendly, affectionate dog who wants his foster mom and dad to sit down and cuddle with him whenever they can. When they are busy, he will find a soft spot near his canine foster brothers, a warm dog bed in which to cuddle, or a sunny space to soak up some rays. Smalls loves going for walks and has great leash manners! Despite a big size difference, he keeps up with his foster doggie brother on their daily walks. He is always up for a car ride where he can get out to socialize, meet new people, and greet friendly dogs. His favorite things are treats, sun bathing, and snuggling under blankets. Smalls rarely barks and is happy to let the other dogs guard the house. While Smalls loves everyone he meets, he might do best in a home with older children and adults because he is fragile due to his small size, slender frame, and some old healed injuries. Smalls prefers to walk on his own rather than being picked up. He also spends a lot of time under blankets, so you have to be careful not to sit on him. Smalls will be the perfect companion during these long winter months ahead and will likely be happy to skip walks on cold snowy days. **Smalls is fostered in the Madison area Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Story
Meet our very special boy, Crosby. Crosby has had quite the life! He was saved in September by our friends at Animal Rescue Corps, from a cruelty/hoarding case in Florida, which included over 135 dogs in one dilapidated house, being let to breed and breed while the owner attempted to sell them on Craigslist. Crosby was found missing half of his right testicle and half of his right leg. We will never know what happened to him, but we do know that he will know only kindness from now on! Our medical team here at HP decided that amputating the rest of this leg would be the best for him. He came in very shy and shut down, but we are excited to say that while he recovered in foster care, he blossomed! His foster mom reported that he is a quiet guy, finds comfort in his crate, loves stuffed toys and ropes, and would do great with a doggy buddy. He enjoys walks though isn`t a huge fan of the cold weather, but he is a huge fan of treats! While he did open up with being in foster care for over three weeks, he is still learning what it`s like to fully trust humans. He needs a special, quiet home that will show him lots of patience and give him room to grow! Call Helping Paws to meet this sweet boy!!
