Sonja was adopted 4 years ago in December from heartland animal shelter. My vet thought at time she was three years old so I’m guessing now she’s 6 or 7. Someone to love and care for her. She is trained to use the Peepee pads. She loves to sit on your lap under a blanket, loves kisses enjoys a fenced in yard. She sleeps in my bedroom in her bed. She’s tiny snuggly independent low maintenance. She eats a quarter cup of dry food twice a day and loves her treats!

Meet Patches Patches is a cute, tan and white Chihuahua Mix, estimated to be about 2 years old, weighing 15 lbs. She is very cute, and good with most other dogs but sometimes is selective about her friends; she was confiscated along with several other dogs, ended up in a downstate animal control, and finally found her way to BAARK. Patches is well behaved, affectionate , an overall nice girl. However she has many traits typical of a Chihuahua….can be dog selective, can be bossy with other dogs, and will not back down if another dog challenges her. So, if there is another dog(s) in the household, he or she should be mellow and laid-back. While affectionate, Patches is not fond of cuddling. She’s an independent spirit and prefers to do her own thing. She will surely make a great companion for adults familiar with the breed and able to appreciate the Chihuahua personality. Patches is fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. Sparky is a very sweet Chihuahua mix, estimated to be 11 lbs and 8 years old. While we believe he is a Chihuahua mix, he does not have the typical Chihuahua personality. He’s very sweet, personable, and good with most everyone he meets….people including kids as well as other dogs. We expect him to be good with cats too! An ideal family for Sparky is one experienced with the Chihuahua breed, is moderately active, and eager to include this little guy in all family activities. A fenced yard is ideal; Sparky would also enjoy the companionship of another middle-aged or slightly older dog. Meet Colleen Colleen is a tiny Chihuahua, weighing in at about 6 lbs and estimated to be 6 years old. She was found along with quite a few other dogs left in a home after their mom was taken to the hospital, then died. We were able to take Colleen, her sister and her brother, all Chihuahuas. Colleen is quiet, and pretty passive; she would prefer a quiet home. She is very sweet and friendly. She enjoys spending time in her crate with the door open, observing surrounding activities. She is ok with other small dogs, not particularly playful, but more as a companion. An ideal adopter for Colleen is one who is very experienced with such tiny dogs and the dangers they could face. For example, in a fenced yard, if hawks or owls are overhead….such a tiny pup could make a nice meal. And, even though that fenced yard appears secure for a normal dog, it may not be so, for a such a small dog as Colleen. If you enjoy hiking or long walks…or dog parks…Colleen would not be your best choice of dog. She’s in good shape but she is so small that she’s naturally fragile. Her ideal life would be lounging, maybe an occasional ride in a doggy-stroller, and just being with her special person. While in overall good health. Colleen has a heart murmur and, as recommended by our vet, is taking Vetmedin (cost is ~$1.00/day) to ensure she’s on top of her game. She also takes glucosamine-chondroitin (Dasuquin). Colleen is up to date on all vaccinations. Heartworm tested and on heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. Sunny is good with kids and adults alike and is a super social guy.  He lives with older elementary aged children in his foster home.  He loves to play with them and give them love. Sunny loves to cuddle after a fun playtime. Sunny is good with dogs from small to large, he has not been cat tested. Sunny is working very hard on his potty training in his new home. He is also crate trained and will ride well in the car in a crate. This little guy is super smart and highly food motivated.  Carrots are his favorite snack and he has been busy learning all the social cues from his foster siblings.   Sunny is fast!! He would make a great agility dog. Sunny’s foster mom says  he was human he would be the bubbly extrovert bouncing around the room talking to everyone!
