Story
Diego came to us as unclaimed stray, ready for a fresh start! Diego is a chihuahua mix, weighing around 22 pounds. Diego is approximately 1.5 years old. He's a very sweet guy, who will jump up for attention and pets. He enjoys his walks and sniffing around. He is often carrying a toy around when he goes for walks. Diego can be a little mouthy when he's excited, nibbling on your fingers or a toy. He is gentle and can be easily redirected. Diego is a favorite with our volunteers as he is a wonderful walker and very affectionate. He can occasionally be hesitant when meeting new people but doesn't take long to warm up after a nice walk and a treat or two!Diego can be reactive to some dogs. He isn't a fan of large dogs and seems to prefer other smaller dogs with a more relaxed demeanor. This incredible little chihuahua mix has been in the shelter for far too long. Please help us find Diego's forever home!

Story
Meet Coco, a precious 9-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing in at about 9 pounds! Coco was originally adopted from us after her owner passed away a few years ago. Coco was sadly returned as she was uncomfortable around the toddler in the home. Coco has a precious little smile and enjoys the attention from staff. She can be shy at first and seems most comfortable around women. Coco previously lived as the only pet in the home. We think she’d do best as the only pet or possibly with another easy-going small dog. Coco enjoys curling up in a comfy bed and going on little walks to explore. Once she's comfortable with you, she will happily sit in your lap or burrow into your clothes. She had a dental and surgery to correct her cherry eye. Unfortunately, what teeth she had left were in such poor condition that they had to pull them. She is on a wet food only diet at the moment as she heals from the dental. Her cherry eye did return, but it does not bother her or impede her vision. Coco has a grade 3 heart murmur but is not in need of any medications.

Story
Meet Kiwi, our precious senior chihuahua mix. Kiwi is 8 years old and weighs just 9lbs. She is shy at first, but once she knows you, she just wants to be with you. She will follow staff around and climb into their lap if they sit on the floor. Kiwi can often be found curled up underneath her blanket taking a nice nap. Kiwi would love a cozy and quiet retirement home to call her own! Kiwi hasn't seemed to mind some of the other mellow small dogs she's met at the shelter. She had a sleepover at a staff member's house and did very well. She did well with their dog, a medium sized senior. She initially greets other dogs and then coexists well with them. She is very content curled up in a lap or laying right beside you.Kiwi has a grade 4 heart murmur and an enlarged heart. Our vet recommended we follow up with a cardiac ultrasound, which showed Kiwi has mild heart failure. They prescribed her Enalapril and Vetmedin, which Kiwi happily takes in a pill pocket or cheese. She also had a dental with some teeth pulled so she is on a wet food diet.

Story
Meet Tia, a one year old Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix available for adoption. Tia was brought in after being found in Pilcher Park by a few citizens. She was quite terrified of her new surroundings and it took some time for her to gather her courage and learn to trust us. Once she settles, Tia is all about getting all the lovin` and wants to be by your side. Tia enjoys the company of other dogs, both big and small. She`s a pretty mellow girl and will take treats gently from your hands. She is still adjusting so loud noises and quick movements can spook her. We are looking for a home with older children (8+ years) as she continues her journey of building her confidence. She would love to sit next to you on the couch, making her way onto your lap and take a quick snooze as you binge watch your favorite show late at night. Her adoption fee is $235, which includes her vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, heartworm test, current flea/heartworm prevention, registered microchip, and spay!

Story
Pablo (noun) - a medium length, wire-hair black chihuahua who has ears 5 times too big and legs 5 times too short and stumpy for his body. Might be a chiweenie. See also: loyal, smart, snuggly, energetic, happy stalke-errr we mean shadow; the most well- behaved chihuahua as long as you are not a dog, child, or stranger. Prefers the company of one or two patient adults who have a great sense of humor and prefer a calmer home without too much chaos. He can also share a home with cats, though he will sometimes try to chase them. A Pablo's favorite things include: early morning snuggles in bed, couch snuggles, sunbathing flat on his side looking dead, treats, playing with toys, and spending time with mom and/or dad. Best Skills: - Name Recognition: responds to Pablo, and comes when called even from the backyard when he is barking at the neighbors, the mailman, children playing on the next block, or the wind - Eating (though he can be picky, he likes to keep you on your toes and always guessing what he's going to like each hour) - Potty-Trained! Yes, behold a chihuahua who is potty trained! - Crate-Trained: though he doesn't like it, he will go right in on his own when asked - Sit: sometimes, if he wants to and a collection of other random skills his dog-trainer foster mom has tried to teach him. Okay, so maybe he's not book-smart....NEXT! - Sleeps through the night - next to you in bed and under the blankets of course - Confidence: he prances around like the rightful king of his castle with his own unique strut - Olympic ready: he is a perfect candidate for his favorite activities! sprinting, jumping, murdering stuffed toys, picking pills out of food, playing fetch, and napping - the most muscular, buff chihuahua you will ever meet! so buff in fact, his muscles busted right out of his Hawaiian shirt (which he hated anyways because he doesn't like clothes) - Protects his people: you will never pee or shower alone again! He positions himself with his butt to you or the shower and guards the door for predators while you do your business. He will also protect you from any perceived threat by barking loudly and saying "go away you scary _____(Insert thing thats only scary to Pablo) ____ or else! Leave my mom/dad/furry sister/my house and territory alone right this instant!" What a gentleman! - Stuck-like-glue: being a stalker is not usually a great quality to have unless you weigh 9lbs like Pablo, and then it's okay. He will follow you everywhere! He will sit next to you on the couch, be the big or little spoon at night while you sleep (how versatile!), stare at you while you eat, follow you around the house from room to room. You'll do everything together forever! Quirks: - He is a Chihuahua: he needs someone who understands he's a chihuahua - and he acts like a chihuahua. He does not want to make new friends, he only thinks he wants to go for walks but really doesn't, he barks a lot, he is selectively people friendly - but he also will become your best friend within a few hours time. - He needs a forever home where his new family doesn't like to have people over to visit often, as it really freaks him out to have visitors disrupt the peace of his safe-space aka your home. Are you ready to meet your new tiny best friend? Visit www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt today to find out more about how to join Pablo's inner circle. The adoption fee for Pablo is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Pablo please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team member.
