Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet 6 lb, 6-7 yo Peanut, a sassy, independent, adventurous Chihuahua who likes to have it her way. Her attitude has improved after surgery to remove her painful eyes, but she will still need patience and time to trust in her new home because first meets with strangers are difficult for her and she will be reactive. She just needs someone to give her the chance to get to know them, and know that they won't hurt her. She will then give you her heart. She is house broken, crate trained and sleeps through the night in her bed. Peanut tested positive for heart worm in September, but has been on a protocol since then, so we’re hoping she will be given the all clear soon. She mostly ignores other dogs unless confronted with an in-your-face type dog, will voice her dislikes, but gives a warning bark to unfamiliar voices or noises. If you are on the look out for a watch dog, she’s your gal. Her hearing is excellent. Peanut is a good car rider. She navigates well inside the house to her beds, crate, the kitchen for treats, the water bowl, and will put herself to bed. Her most favorite place is outdoors exploring, sniffing, listening to sounds and protests if her peace is disturbed; a fenced yard would allow her to roam freely and is required for her. She will also tolerate being on a leash. Our girl is food aggressive as a result of being found dumped, starving and alone on a country road, severely underweight at just 3 lbs. Her foster mom puts her food down and walks away, giving her space. Peanut seems to prefer females, but just may warm up to a special guy who is well versed in Chi and their idiosyncrasies. While not a cuddler, she will approach for attention, a neck rub and, perhaps to join you on the couch under strict supervision because she will walk right off the edge if not stopped. Peanut may be best in a home as an only dog, would be okay with cats, but not with small children. We are adopting her to an all-adult home only. Peanut is heart worm positive at this time, and is on the slow kill method, which we can explain that process to any interested applicant. She can enjoy regular activities. Heart worm disease is contracted from an infected mosquito and can not be transmitted to another dog. If you think you have the perfect forever home for Peanut and her little quirks due to her sight limitations, please complete her app and tell us more about you. November 5, 2024, 7:56 am

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet Shelly - she is 7 months old and currently weighs around 15lbs. Shelly came to us with her momma Maggie (who found her forever home) and two siblings. She is very sweet, as well as calm and observant. Shelly is playful and friendly, but as much as she loves to play, she will never turn down a good snuggle.  She loves to chew on toys, wrestle with her siblings as well as explore the great outdoors in the yard.  Shelly doesn't seem to mind water and does well at bath time. She seems to be a big fan of children and meeting new people but like most puppies she tends to be mouthy and loves to chew, so she must always be supervised, especially with small children. She does well sleeping through the night in a puppy pen with her siblings. Potty training is a work in progress. She will use potty pads if not brought outside in time but definitely knows outside is meant for potty. Maggie, Shelly's mom, was a petite chihuahua mix. We don't know who her dad is but most likely some type of hound, cur or terrier. We anticipate she will be small/medium sized but can't be certain. Like all puppies she will need to have potty breaks every 2-3 hours and to continue her socialization with people and other dogs. Obedience training is highly recommended. A fenced yard is also important so Shelly can run around and burn off puppy energy. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe your family has the time, energy and love to devote to raising an active puppy, please send in an application and let us know more about your family. Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet Eve, she is  7 months old. Eve came to us with her momma Maggie (who found her forever home) and two siblings. She is the runt of the litter, currently weighing in around 12 pounds. But don't underestimate Eve based on her size because she has the heart of a lion. And don't tell Eve she's small because she thinks she's big stuff. She stands up for herself and can be mouthy when other dogs come up to the pen. She is brave, playful, friendly and spunky but she is also sweet and sensitive and enjoys a good cuddle. She loves to chew on toys, play with her siblings as well as playing and exploring in the yard. Eve is not a fan of water; bath time is far from/Orlando area and feel your family has the time, energy and love to devote to raising a puppy, please send in an application and let us know more about your family. Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Hi - my name is Chico. I’m a male 2-year-old, 11-lb. possible chihuahua and dachshund mix (some people call that a chiweenie, though I look more on the chi side). After a short time to warm up to you, I’ll be your best friend and shadow. I love cozy blankets, and playing with my toys. I’m working very hard on my potty training, am mostly crate trained but prefer being out and about, and walk AMAZINGLY on a leash. I'm a medium-energy kinda guy, so if you love walks then cuddle time I’m your man. I’m great with big and small dogs, and have been introduced to cats and did well. If the home has kids, I would do best with older children, since young kids make me nervous. I’m also nervous around new things, but with love and patience, I quickly learn to not be afraid. I’m a happy, sweet boy when I’m given just a little time to get to know you. For my young age, I’m a calm and relaxed dog and I actually don’t bark all that much. I know sit, down, and a recall, and do fine riding in a car. I have gone through training to help me learn how to meet strangers so a family who is willing to continue that on is a must. If you think you are the perfect family for my cute self, and you live in the Orlando area, complete an app and tell me how you would make me your special little man. December 1, 2024, 7:42 pm

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! My name is Pablo and I am a 7lb, 10-year-old long-haired male Chihuahua who came to Lil Rascals when my owner passed away. I am good with adults but unknown with children. I have lived with and get along well with other small dogs but will initially exert my dominance to show them I am the boss. I have also lived with cats and get along with them. I’m not really interested in playing with fur siblings or toys though. The main things that I love are sitting with you and taking naps. Overall I’m sweet as pie and a pretty quiet fellow. I show my happiness with shy tail wags and a gentle paw on your arm. I am not food-motivated but will guard food from other pets who approach my bowl. I can also be finicky about eating and may need some coaxing to get me started. I am relaxed and comfortable being carried around and have no interest in going for walks on a leash. I prefer to do my business quickly in the backyard and then get right back to cuddling. I do not like being in a crate alone overnight and will howl and bark. I am happiest if allowed to sleep with you in your bed. I will use pee pads in your room if nature calls overnight, and will also wear a belly band without fuss. In typical chihuahua fashion, I sometimes get a little persnickety if you touch my feet and privates. But I am calm and ride well in a car in a soft-sided carrier, and am also a relaxed patient at the vet. If you are looking for a low-maintenance, calm and quiet companion who doesn’t require long walks, you’ll be delighted to meet me. I prefer a quiet, all-adult home only, and someone who is home most of the time. I will need occasional grooming. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you are a perfect match for Pablo, please complete an app and tell us more about you.  December 25, 2024, 6:03 pm

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Rocky is a sweet, 5yo, around 9lb. male Chihuahua mix who loves to play with other dogs and is a true lap dog snuggle bug. He gets along well with all people, dogs and cats. He walks well on a leash and is crate trained. He’s not a big barker, only chiming in when his fur siblings bark. His potty training is a work in progress but it is going well and he is doing better as long as he is taken out often. This little cutie-patootie can’t wait to find his forever family, who he hopes has a fur sibling playmate for him. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Rocky, please complete an application and tell us more about your family. December 29, 2024, 8:26 pm

Story
Chika and Ollie were surrendered due to their parents passing away. These dogs are bonded and have been pampered their whole lives. We would like to find them adopters that will do the same thing. Chika and Ollie are both typical lap dogs. They are great companions and love to cuddle. Ollie is 10 years old and Chika is 8. We would love for them to find a home together. They are really laid back dogs and do not require any exercise but they do love adventures. They used to live on a property with a few acres. They have no health issues and are up to date on all vaccinations and spayed/neutered. They are both ready to find their forever homes now. ##2098107##

Story
Kylo is currently undergoing heartworm treatment. All costs are covered by us. Heartworm disease is contracted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. It's not contagious. If your dog is on heartworm prevention, they cannot get infected by the mosquito carrying the illness. Kylo was surrendered by his owner with two other small-breed dogs. Kylo is very timid at first but when he warms up he is the sweetest guy ever. Kylo will come up to you for butt scratches and kisses. He is pretty hilarious and still has a lot of spunk despite spending most of his time lounging around. Kylo is 8 years young and 9 pounds. Kylo is neutered, vaccinated, and chipped. Kylo is good with dogs and cats. He just wants to be your cuddle buddy. Apply to adopt Kylo today! ##2143697##

Story
Looking for a dog that needs a very special and patient human? Kali was surrendered by her owner with two other small-breed dogs. Kali is very timid and needs to build trust with humans she meets first before showing her true sweet personality. She is still building her confidence. She seems more comfortable with women than men.  Kali becomes defensive on the leash during walks and barks at other bystanders. This fear-based behavior needs to be worked on. Once you have won Kali over she is the sweetest lapdog and loves to sleep under the blankets. She is spayed, vaccinated, and chipped. She is about 18 pounds and fully grown. Kali is good with dogs. No cats! She hasn't been tested with children but would do best with older children due to her timidness. Kali is potty-trained (for the most part, she will have accidents if anxious) and crate-trained. Adopt Kali Today!  ##2143715##
