Story
Rocko is a 3-year-old Chihuahua weighing approximately 10 pounds. His owner was moving and unable to bring him. She said he was fearful and unsocialized. He would frequently hide from them. He has improved greatly with us, but he still is not totally trusting. He will need someone who will take it slow with him and be patient. He may snap and try to nip until he gets to know you and trust you. We think he will be best for someone with a fenced yard. He likes to walk on a leash but it's best to get to know him in a fenced yard then leashing him will be more comfortable for everyone. He has bonded with our rescue manager. It just takes him a little time. If you are tender-hearted and can go slow, please come meet this boy a few times. He will be worth the wait. He tends to attach to one person and they can do no wrong in his eyes. He is affectionate but when he has enough, he will let you know. He has to be the only pet. His adoption donation is $150 which includes his neuter, vaccinations, microchip. He is heartworm negative and on monthly prevention. He will blossom into a lovable, friendly boy so please give him a chance We are only able to adopt within the state of Florida. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PJ came to PRBJ when his family had to move and they were unable to take him. He is a shy dog that takes some time to warm up to new people. He is not used to being on a leash and is pee pad trained. We are working to get him potty trained outside. Going out with another dog is a big help for him as he tends to imitate.  Due to his nervous behavior, we are recommending an adult only home with someone who is patient and willing to give PJ the time he needs to come out of his little shell.  Foster update: It takes PJ a while to warm up. He was very scared and unsure when he first arrived. We fed him by hand for a couple of days and that helped!  He is also very treat motivated though if he is scared he may not take offered treats.**Since his neuter, he has gone backwards a bit and is not wanting to sit on laps or go outside.   We are working on it! He likes to be close to people but not necessarily to be touched.   He will shriek if you try to pet him when he does not want to be.    We have been working on "touch" training.   We say kiss or touch and he comes up and boops our hand.   His body language is getting better and better with it and even acting a bit playful.  He spooks fairly easily and needs to be on a leash or in a fenced yard as he can slip out of his collar. We recommend a slip leash or harness as he would be very difficult to catch...running away is his first instinct.    He does not like being picked up. He can be very underfoot - on or off leash, so this is something to consider for anyone not steady on their feet. He is not fully housetrained, but is learning the concept of going outside.  Because he does not like the leash we would recommend that he have a home with a fenced yard where he can be let outside to continue on his housetraining.   PJ can tend to get distracted and forget why he is outside so it's best to supervise whether he has gone or not!   His crate is left open when he is not in it and he likes to go lay in it, especially in the evenings before bed time.   His foster home has small and larger dogs and he is not a huge fan of the big dogs if they are running around.    He has been sleeping in a dog bed in the bedroom at night.   We do close the door or he likes to wander.    We have a pee pad in the hallway and some nights he makes it through dry, others he will use the pee pad.     He just had a dental, so his pearly whites are looking good!    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 3, 2025, 9:18 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Ice came to PRBJ when his family had to move and was unable to bring him. He is a sweet senior who has been around kids and other dogs with no issues. He is crate trained, though he would prefer to be out of it, and he is working on potty training. We do have a pee pad down, and he will use it at times but will also whine to let you know if he needs to go out.    Ice loves to eat, wants to know where his people are, and will happily nap where he can see them. He does not enjoy car rides.   We have tried him both in the crate and in a doggy car seat, but he cries and whines.    He has an easy going temperament, an adorable wagging tail, and a big bark. Ice loves wandering around the yard as long as his people are nearby.  He does have a cruciate ligament injury in one rear leg which cannot be repaired at his age. He typically walks on all four legs, but if he wants to go faster, he tends to make a go of it on three legs. He has a heart murmur and takes medication twice daily for his heart. For a 15 yr old man, Ice is happy and his senior health does not keep him from enjoyng life:)  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 10, 2025, 10:29 am
