ABOUT FENRIS Calling all spicy Chihuahua lovers, meet the sassiest little man around! Fenris is a 4-year-old Chihuahua with some very big feelings (and even bigger opinions). He came to HAP when his owner could no longer keep him, and let’s just say… he is not impressed with shelter life. Fenris is clearly accustomed to the finer things, his ideal day includes wearing a cozy sweater and being carried around like the king he knows he is. While he can be nervous when meeting new people, he’s excellent at communicating when he needs space (boundaries? we love to see it). With time, patience, and a steady supply of tasty snacks, he warms up and transforms into a full-on stage ten clinger. We’ve seen glimpses of Fenris’s loving and playful side, and he’s looking for an adopter who will give him the time, respect, and understanding he needs to truly shine! **Fenris thinks other dogs are dirty and weird, so he is looking to be your only pet, non-negotiable. He also thinks children are loud and annoying, so calm adults are preferred for this king! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Hilo (HE-low) Hilo is a 13-year-old, 27-lb Chihuahua/Beagle mix looking for a calm home to spend his golden years. Don’t let his age fool you — this little guy still loves life, especially walks, toys, treats, and car rides. Hilo is fully housebroken, walks nicely on leash, and is a classic couch-potato companion who enjoys relaxing nearby. He likes to stay close to his person and will happily follow you from room to room like a loyal shadow, but he’s not overly clingy and prefers lounging beside you rather than being a lap dog. One of Hilo’s cutest habits is getting excited for walks — he’ll actually try to grab his jacket out of your hand because he can’t wait to go outside. He does well with other dogs, has minimal barking, and would do best with older kids due to his age. Hilo would thrive in a home with someone who is retired or works from home, where he can enjoy companionship, daily walks, and plenty of cozy nap spots. Hilo came to rescue as an owner surrender and was a bit overweight at intake, but he’s been doing great in foster care. As a precaution, he eats kidney-support food and takes a few routine supplements to keep him feeling his best. (Nexguard Plus | 3 month supply: $123.79, Wellactin supplement | 120 capsules: $24.99) His favorite things include toys, food, treats, walks, and car rides. Loud noises and storms aren’t his favorite, but a warm spot near the fireplace and a comfy bed make everything better. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who just wants to be near his people, Hilo may be the perfect match.

Story
Meet Pinky Pie! She is a sweet 2-year-old Chug (Chihuahua/Pug mix) turning 3 in March. Pinky is extremely friendly, smart, and full of personality. She loves people, other dogs, and will happily follow you everywhere you go. She is cuddly, funny, and a little ball of energy, but also enjoys relaxing in the sun or under a heated blanket. She dislikes cold weather and rain, though she looks adorable in her puffer jacket. She knows sit, stay, wait, paw, and high five, and even understands sit in ASL. She enjoys puzzle toys, deer antlers, and was trained on ELMS dog food. Chicken causes extra shedding, so it is best avoided. She sheds more when anxious. Baths are not her favorite, but warm water and peanut butter help a lot. She will need updated shots this year. Pinky needs a loving, attentive home where she can be a loyal, happy best friend for life. She would do best in a warm, loving home that understands her sensitive, loyal nature. She bonds deeply with her person she is the best!!

Story
Meet Buddy — the 12-pound chihuahua who believes he is the one doing the adopting. Buddy is about 3 years old and has the confidence of a tiny king deciding who is worthy of his presence. He does not love everyone… but honestly, do any of us? The good news is that once Buddy chooses you, congratulations — you’ve been selected for VIP status. Once you’re in his inner circle, Buddy becomes your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your personal space invader. You can dress him in sweaters, carry him around like royalty, or let him claim your lap as his permanent real estate. He loves it all. Winning him over is the tricky part — his little heart has a password, and he’s not sharing it with just anyone.March 7, 2026, 9:03 am

Story
Meet Chum — 13 pounds of attitude, drama, and… eventually… affection. Are you a patient adult woman with a soft spot for spicy little men? Perfect. Chum is a 4-year-old chihuahua whose hobbies include: strutting proudly on his walkies, judging everyone within a 10-foot radius, and filing formal complaints about any man who dares make eye contact. Chum considers personal space a right, not a privilege. He’ll need someone who lets him settle in at his own pace, preferably while providing him with the fluffiest, most luxurious bed known to mankind (he will absolutely claim it as his throne).
