Story
Cheech - The Escape Artist Chihuahua About Cheech: 2-year-old male Chihuahua Neutered and microchipped Up-to-date on all vaccinations Outgoing and friendly with people, especially enjoys the company of children Prefers the company of smaller dogs, especially female pups High-energy and very clever - can climb chain link fences to escape, so will need a secure, high wooden fence Personality and Behavior: Cheech is a lively and affectionate Chihuahua with a big personality packed into a small body. He loves people and most dogs, though he tends to prefer the company of smaller pups, especially females. His clever and adventurous nature has earned him the nickname "Houdini" - he has an uncanny ability to climb to the top of chain link fences and then jump down to freedom. For this reason, he will need a securely fenced yard with a tall wooden fence that he cannot climb. Cheech is house-trained and comfortable using a doggie door. He does well when crated, but will need close supervision to prevent any daring escapes when doors are opened. Tragically, Cheech's adventurous spirit once led him to kill a chicken after getting out, so he is not recommended for a farm or rural environment. However, Cheech seems to do well with children and could make a delightful companion in the right home, as long as his escape artist tendencies are carefully managed. Ideal Home: Cheech would thrive in an active home with a securely fenced yard and plenty of enrichment to channel his high energy. He would do best in a home without other large dogs, and one with responsible owners who can provide close supervision to prevent any unplanned adventures. An experienced Chihuahua owner or a home with dog-savvy children would be ideal for this clever and affectionate pup. ##2195191##

Story
Hi my name is Graham. I was adopted from the rescue 5 years ago, but along the way I decided I wanted to live the bachelor lifestyle, kids and other dogs are not for me!  I'm 7-10 years ago and a very handsome chiweenie.  I am looking for a quieter home where I can enjoy 1-2 adult humans' company. I am very cuddly and sweet and love to snuggle. I am very smart. I walk well on leash, am mostly trusted off leash, and enjoy a short run or hike. Like a lot of dogs my size, I bark at other dogs on leash, but usually am fine once I can get close to them and give them a good sniff. I dont mind hanging with other dogs outside of the house, but inside I want to be your one and only and get lots of attention! Looking for someone to sit on your lap? Look no further!  If you're interested in meeting me please fill out an application at www.thegooddogrescue.org (If you already have an approved application, please email thegooddogrescueadoptions@gmail.com with your interest in me!) My adoption fee is $150 and I am neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations ##957049##

Story
In the midst of a huge tropical storm brewing along the gulf coast of Texas, Cosmo and Wanda, possibly his mother, were tossed out by their owner because 'they no longer wanted them.' The neglect was obvious on their small frames- ribs showing from malnutrition and no vetting ever afforded. They never would have survived the elements on their own; luckily they were evacuated from the danger zone and marked safe as Red Fern dogs. But Cosmo wasn't out of the woods yet. While Wanda was ready to make her journey to Colorado, Cosmo was severely underweight due to neglect and suffering an injured, swollen wrist that lasted over a month before diagnosed as a sublaxation of the wrist- his tendons and joints partially separated on his front leg requiring four weeks of treatment and weekly bandages. Cosmo risked amputation if the treatment didn't work. Luckily, after a few months of tender love and care from his amazing San Antonio rescuer and foster mama, Cosmo is ready to make a new life for himself in Colorado! Cosmo will require a high calorie diet, at least in the immediate future, to compensate for the neglect he suffered early on, but he has made great strides getting up to a hefty five pounds and has a bright life ahead of him! Cosmo has a common Chi/small dog ailment- luxating patella, a common orthopedic condition in dogs that occurs when the kneecap (patella) moves out of its normal groove in the femur. Luckily Cosmo's is low grade so it doesn't warrant surgery and he does not need any physical therapy, medication or treatments at this time. That's not to say he might need some extra care in his senior years. He also has an angular limb deformity of his front left leg- basically one ankle bigger than the other. Many small dog and Chihuahua owners will be familiar with the former and understand this is very common and no reason to not welcome this sweet guy into your home! Cosmo loves to cuddle, even being a little selfish and possessive of his person- who doesn't want all that love? He is good with dogs and cats and currently living with both including smols and bigs! He also used to cuddle with the kiddo in his San Antonio foster home so kid approved! Cosmo is being fostered in Colorado. ##2186272##

Story
Allow me to introduce myself: I am Waylon, a ten-pound Chihuahua with a distinctive personality. Having taken it upon myself to pen this profile, I believe there is no one better suited to capture my essence than I. As a mature Chihuahua, I have established certain preferences and routines. I am particular about my surroundings and activities. Though I am almost fully housetrained, exposure to the elements is not to my liking; I prefer the comfort of indoor environments. My inclination for using pavement rather than grass for my outdoor needs stems from my early years, where grassy terrains were not a part of my routine. My leash manners are impeccable, showcasing my disciplined nature. In keeping with the spirited nature of my breed, I possess certain assertive traits. I occasionally nip to assert my position, though it is never with the intention of causing harm. This behavior serves as a reminder of my presence and status. While I can be tolerant of being picked up by those I trust, this tolerance has its limits. Prolonged handling can elicit a strong reaction. Despite this, I often seek the comfort of being lifted again after some time, demonstrating my complex nature. I am a vigilant guardian, alert to the presence of strangers and potential threats such as mail carriers and passing neighbors. My protective instincts make me an excellent watchdog. In interactions with larger dogs, I may display a confident demeanor. However, these interactions never escalate as my small stature is evident, and my assertiveness is more performative than confrontational. Food is a significant motivator for me. I am quick and agile when it comes to securing treats, often outpacing my foster mom's distribution efforts. My enthusiasm for food is a testament to my spirited nature. Despite my independent streak, I am affectionate with my chosen person. I prefer to rest at the foot of the bed or nearby on the couch rather than demanding constant lap time. My presence is a quiet and comforting companionship. I have specific needs and preferences for my forever home: Frequent Visitors: Not suitable. Large Family: Not suitable. Small Children: Not suitable. Inexperienced Adopter: Not suitable. I seek an adopter with ample patience and an appreciation for the distinct personality of Chihuahua mixes. If you meet these criteria, I could be the steadfast companion you’ve been searching for. Adopt Waylon: If you are prepared to welcome a spirited, small dog with a big personality into your life, consider giving Waylon a forever home.   Please fill out an adoption application for the dog(s) you’re interested in. We review each application in the order they're submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails). Learn more about our dog adoption process here.   The adoption fee for this pet is $375.  Waylon is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his vaccinations. PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
