Story
Soulful Emma is ready for her fresh start! Emma is estimated to be around 7-8 years old, and she is a loving girl who is happiest when she can be on someone's lap. She is the epitome of a darling little old lady, and she is ready to spend her golden years being spoiled like the little princess she is. Emma currently weighs about 7lbs, but could benefit from gaining a little weight. Emma came to us after she was at risk of euthanasia at a NorCal animal shelter. When she was examined for her spay surgery, they discovered she had a heart condition called P atent Ductus Arteriosus. She needed surgery, but the shelter was unable to provide it. We were so grateful that a generous donor stepped up to cover the costs of her surgery. She is now cured from her heart condition and ready to find her fur-ever home! Emma is a mellow gal who enjoys the simple things in life: tasty food, cuddles, and sunbathing. She is a true lap dog who can typically be found cuddling in someone's lap. She thrives on being the center of attention and would be a great little buddy for a retired person who needs a low-energy companion. She enjoys her short walks, but is way more interested in being cozy at home. Emma has done well living with other small, mellow dogs. She definitely would love being the only dog, but she has learned how to share the spotlight. We haven't seen Emma around cats, but we think she would do well living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Due to her fragile size, Emma would do best in an adult-only home. Emma has been doing great with her housetraining, but may have a few accidents while she is acclimating to a new home and routine. She has done very well being crated or free roaming when left home alone for short periods. She is happy to sleep in her crate or in bed with you if you let her. Emma could do well living in an apartment. Emma has a few health concerns, including dental disease. She will need a dental cleaning and some extractions in her new home. She has luxating patellas in both knees, but doesn't require any treatment at this time. Emma's heart condition doesn't require any treatment since she had her surgery. Emma has been through a lot, and she deserves a great family to shower her with love. If you think that may be you, fill out an application today!   Emma's adoption fee is $300.   Apply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org. March 18, 2026, 8:38 pm

Story
Meet Elliot! Looking for a gentle soul who just needs a little time to shine? Elliot might be your perfect match.Elliot is a 1-year-old male Chihuahua mix who came to the shelter as a stray, and he’s ready for a fresh start with a patient, loving home. At first glance, Elliot may seem shy and reserved—but give him a little time, and you’ll see his sweet personality begin to blossom. In his kennel, Elliot is calm and quiet, making him an easy companion to have around. He walks nicely on a leash and is easy to handle, though he prefers a slow, gentle approach when meeting new people. Once he feels safe, Elliot starts to seek out affection and shows his softer, loving side. He’s a fan of treats (and takes them very politely!), which could help with building trust and teaching him new things, as he hasn’t had much prior training yet. Elliot would do best in a home where he can be the only dog, as he prefers his own space and has shown he’s not interested in interacting with other dogs. He hasn’t been tested with cats yet. A calm environment with someone who understands shy dogs will help him truly thrive. Elliot doesn’t ask for much, just patience, kindness, and a chance to feel safe and loved. In return, you’ll gain a loyal little companion who will quietly steal your heart. Could Elliot be the one you’ve been waiting for?

Courtesy Post – Seeking a New Home Please note: Candy is not at the shelter. This is a courtesy post to help the owner find a safe and appropriate new home. All inquiries should be directed to the owner, not Yolo County Animal Services. Meet Candy, a 12-year-old Chihuahua mix looking for a new home after spending most of her life with her current family. Candy has been with her owner for over 11 years and was originally adopted from the Yolo County shelter. Marissa-Morales Candy is described as a shy girl at first, but she warms up after a little time and becomes comfortable around people. She is spayed and current on vaccines. Candy has not lived with children, so her behavior around kids is unknown. Her owner notes that Candy has primarily lived outdoors for several hours at a time. She is not potty-trained or crate-trained, and sometimes has accidents in her bed. She does allow people to take food or toys from her without issue and has no history of biting. Marissa-Morales Candy’s family is facing international travel and cannot take her with them, so they are hoping to find a caring person who can provide her with a safe and comfortable home for her senior years.
