Story
Hi there! My name is Buddy and I'm a 3 year old Male Chihuahua Mix currently living at the Santa Barbara Campus, eager for a new home! Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home. Need some supplies? Both SB Humane Campuses have retail centers stocked with everything you need, at comparable prices, and your purchase helps support our mission. Hope to see you soon!

Story
Ari is a gentle, sensitive boy who thrives in the comfort of home. He enjoys daily walks, but outside of that he is fearful of new environments, groups, strangers, and public places. In those situations, he tends to shut down and wants to hide. Ari doesn’t love the car, though he will go in willingly; once inside, he usually curls up quietly. At home, Ari has many cat-like qualities. He loves to sleep on the bed, perch on the back of the couch, and be near his people—though he doesn’t always want to be held. He spends a lot of time napping, and typically only plays with toys once a day or so. You can tell when Ari is truly happy because he rolls on his back, chuffs, and rubs his face in the blankets. One of his favorite pastimes is “helping” with the laundry.Ari is highly food-motivated and loves treats (and people food if he can sneak some), so a little regulation is needed to keep him at a healthy weight. He learned to use the dog door very quickly and is also pee pad trained. When he first arrived, he did some marking—though that may have been related to living with several other male dogs in the home.Currently, Ari lives with two adults, two teens, a male dog his size, two larger male dogs, and a smaller female dog. He can get jealous when the other dogs receive attention, but he hasn’t had issues sharing food or toys. When meeting new dogs, he may be a bit snarky—likely due to his small size and timid nature.Ari does best when left loose in the house with other dogs. He cannot be crated comfortably—he barks nonstop—and if left with access to a dog door, he will try to climb fences to find his people. For this reason, he is usually secured indoors when no one is home. He’s adjusted well to this routine and does fine left in the home for reasonable periods of time.Ari has fit beautifully into our household, but with four dogs already, we can’t keep a fifth as a permanent family member. He deserves a forever home where his unique personality and needs will be embraced. He will be a wonderful companion for someone patient, gentle, and understanding, who values quiet companionship over an outgoing or adventurous pup.

This sweet terrier mix has an inspiring story! Mateo was born with cranial mandibular osteopathy, but he has bravely outgrown this condition and is ready for his forever home. He can be a bit shy and fearful due to limited socialization during his recovery. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats! We believe he would truly thrive in a home with a confident lead dog to help guide him.
