Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 On January 1st, Mama Tomato — an adorable 11 lb Chi mix — delivered the freshest produce of the New Year: five perfectly ripe Tomato puppies. Now 11 weeks old, these garden gems are ready to be picked for their forever homes.   Their daily routine is simple and wholesome, just like a backyard harvest should be. Around 7:30am, the Tomato crew rustles their foster awake and heads outside for about an hour of potty time and play in the yard. The rest of the day is spent in their pen rotating between naps, wrestling matches, and refueling at the kibble bar, which is open all day. At 8pm, they enjoy a hearty dinner of kibble mixed with wet food — a farm-to-bowl feast. In the evening, they get another hour outside to stretch their vines and burn off that last burst of sunshine energy before bed.   Each Tomato has their own distinct flavor:   Beefsteak The smallest of the bunch, but full of robust personality. Beefsteak was the first to really get airborne, perhaps to compensate for his petite size. He has a delightfully bouncy run and occasionally attempts to scale the yard’s tree like a tiny goat. He’s also the only sibling who has discovered the art of tail chasing, which he approaches with great enthusiasm and very little success. Once he's done with adventuring, he's ready for some lap time snuggles!   Cherry Playful and bold, Cherry keeps the vine lively. He regularly challenges Mama Tomato to wrestling matches, despite losing in record time. He has a talent for dramatic props — proudly parading around with a leaf as big as his face or a stick longer than his body while playing keep-away with his siblings. He brings the zesty fun to every play session.   Early Girl An athletic overachiever, Early Girl treats the yard like her own agility course. From her very first outdoor adventure, she began climbing onto platforms and launching herself off with impressive commitment. She’s also climbed a flower pot and leapt to a raised garden bed several inches away. This little tomato believes gravity is more of a suggestion than a rule. She's a parkour pro, but as sweet as a ripe tomato!   Roma The strategic thinker of the patch. Roma is smartie pants who studied every design flaw in the pen barrier and systematically defeated them. He has pushed it aside, climbed corners, and engineered clever workarounds to expand his territory. A hearty eater, he quickly caught up in size and outgrew his sister after starting smaller. Roma combines brains, determination, and a healthy appetite for life. With his love of food, he'll be easy to train!   Sungold Slightly more cautious when faced with new experiences, Sungold approaches the world with thoughtful sweetness. His first adventures outside the pen and into the yard were marked by an adorable quick-but-careful belly crawl. Yet once he feels secure, he melts completely — especially when picked up, immediately flopping onto his back for belly rubs. He matches Roma in enthusiasm at mealtime and has been growing beautifully. Gentle, affectionate, and quietly confident, Sungold is pure sunshine once he warms up.   These Tomato puppies have been lovingly tended, well-fed, and thoughtfully socialized. They are playful, curious, and thriving — ready to be transplanted into homes where they can continue to grow.   If you’re looking to add something fresh, joyful, and homegrown to your life, one of these Tomatoes may be the perfect pick.March 30, 2026, 11:40 am

This 4 month old Chi mix adores being around her people and is happiest when she can follow them from room to room, keeping an eye on everything that’s going on. She is affectionate, playful, and very smart, already learning the routines of home life with impressive speed.   Daily Routine   Wombat likes to ease into her mornings. She prefers to head outside around 7:30 AM for her first potty break, followed by some quality sunbathing time in the yard. After that she comes inside for a small breakfast and spends the morning hanging out nearby while her foster works.   Lunch is around 11:30 AM, followed by a walk around the neighborhood. She usually naps in the early afternoon, then enjoys more time outside in the yard later in the day. Dinner is at about 5:30 PM with the family, followed by another walk. Evenings are spent playing, relaxing with her people, and heading to bed around 8–8:30 PM.   Personality   When Wombat first arrived in her foster home, she bonded quickly with her foster parent. She loves people in general and is happy to be held and cuddled by anyone! Within just a few days, she settled in beautifully and began showing her affectionate, silly side.   She is definitely a “Velcro dog” who loves being near her people. If she can’t find them, she sometimes gathers socks or other laundry and curls up with them in her bed. Wombat enjoys snuggling but prefers to initiate affection herself— and when she does, she gives endless kisses.   She can feel a little anxious when left alone, but this has already improved as she gains confidence.   Playfulness and Energy   Wombat has a great balance of playful puppy energy and relaxed lounging. She greets her people with enthusiastic excitement and then quickly settles down. She loves playing fetch and is impressively good at catching a ball, but she is just as happy relaxing quietly nearby once playtime is over.   Walking and Training   Wombat enjoys two walks a day and especially loves grassy areas, where she may happily pause and relax. She may bark at other dogs she sees on walks, but she responds well to gentle correction and stops when asked.   For a young puppy, she is doing very well with house training. She uses a potty pad indoors about 95 percent of the time and also goes in her designated yard spot or on walks.   Life With Others   Wombat currently lives as the only pet in her foster home. She sometimes barks at unfamiliar dogs while walking but has shown she can share space peacefully with them. A visiting dog in the home did very well with her.   She also lives with a three-year-old child and has become very comfortable playing and interacting with them.   Why Wombat Is Special   Wombat is incredibly loving and surprisingly clever. In just one week she learned her household routines and where she is supposed to go potty.   One of her foster family’s favorite moments happened when they left her in her exercise pen. She managed to climb out, but instead of getting into trouble, they found her peacefully curled up in her dog bed surrounded by a collection of the family’s socks and clothes she had gathered from around the house— her way of keeping her favorite people close. Maybe we should have named her Dobby!   Sweet, loyal, and full of personality, Wombat is ready to bring joy, laughter, and lots of puppy kisses to her forever home.March 30, 2026, 11:40 am

Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Meet Thimble: Tiny, Tender, and Devoted to Her People   At just 2 years old and 8 pounds, Thimble is a delicate little Chihuahua mix with a huge heart and an even bigger capacity for love. Rescued from the shelter alongside her friend Bobbin, this petite companion has quickly shown that beneath her small size is a deeply loyal, affectionate soul who simply wants to be close to her people. She’s gentle, well-mannered, and happiest when curled up beside you—preferably under a cozy blanket.   Daily Routine & Lifestyle   Thimble thrives on a predictable, cozy routine and loves being part of her person’s day from start to finish.   Her day typically begins between 6:00–7:00 AM, when she heads straight outside to the backyard (or a short walk) to take care of business. Afterward, she happily returns to bed for a second round of snuggles and snoozing—ideally right next to her humans—before breakfast around 8:00 AM. She can be a bit particular about her kibble and much prefers tasty options like boiled chicken or wet food, though she’ll eat her kibble more enthusiastically when it’s hidden in a snuffle mat.   During the day, Thimble acts as the ultimate little shadow. She alternates between cuddling, watching the world from the window, and napping in her favorite cozy spots—soft blankets, couch cushions, or even her crate when she chooses to rest there.   She enjoys an optional short afternoon walk where she can sniff and explore, followed by more relaxation time. Dinner is typically around 8:00 PM, followed by a final quick walk before bedtime around 9:30 PM. While she can sleep independently, she very much prefers sharing a bed with her people.   Personality: Sweet, Sensitive, and Deeply Devoted   Thimble has a quiet, gentle nature and a truly loving heart. She adores her humans and shows it through affectionate kisses, soft cuddles, and a constant desire to be near you. She is very much a “velcro dog,” happiest when she can follow her person from room to room or curl up nearby.   When she first arrived from the shelter, she was understandably nervous and easily startled. However, within just 48 hours, she blossomed into a comfortable, trusting companion who now thrives in a home environment.   She can be cautious with new people and needs a little time to build trust, but she is never aggressive. Her personality is more tender than timid—she simply prefers gentle introductions and a calm environment.   Because she bonds so closely, Thimble can become anxious if left alone for long stretches and would do best with a family that enjoys having a constant companion nearby.   Energy Level & Play Style   Thimble is primarily a couch potato and cuddle enthusiast. She enjoys lounging for most of the day but has occasional playful bursts of energy. Her favorite activities include:   Sniffing out treats Playing tug-of-war with a small rope toy Chewing on bully sticks Cozying up under blankets   Her exercise needs are minimal, making her a great fit for apartment living or a quieter household.   Walking & Training   Thimble enjoys her walks and is generally well-behaved on leash. She can be a bit wiggly and likes to zig-zag as she explores scents, but she is manageable and not difficult to handle.   House Training & Home Habits   Thimble is fully house trained and communicates clearly when she needs to go outside by whining.   Needs potty breaks about every 4 hours Has had no accidents in the home Uses her crate willingly for naps Tolerates crating but prefers being near her people  She is also a very polite housemate: Does not chew household items Does not dig Barks briefly to alert when visitors arrive, then settles quickly  She doesn’t need a large yard or intense exercise. What matters most is kindness, patience, and companionship. A home that welcomes a snuggly bed partner and values a gentle, affectionate dog will be the perfect match for her.   What Makes Thimble Special   Thimble is one of those rare dogs whose sweetness is immediately obvious. She is tender, obedient, and eager to please, with not a hint of mischief or attitude. Her warm, gentle eyes and loving nature make it easy to fall completely in love with her.   A Few Endearing Quirks She loves burrowing into blankets on the couch—it’s her favorite way to sleep When allowed on the bed, she curls up snugly against your legs like a tiny, comforting weight She sometimes barks at dogs on TV—and occasionally at her own reflection   Thimble may be small, but her love is enormous. She is ready to devote herself completely to the lucky person or family who welcomes her home.March 30, 2026, 11:40 am
