Story
Hello, I'm Horatio. I've been described as a magnificent little tater tot of a dog. I'm generally a laid-back kind of guy who enjoys long naps and lots of snacks. On first meeting I can sometimes be a bit shy. The world is pretty big in comparison to me, so new people and things can be kind of intimidating. Young kids might be a little much for me as well - their excitable spirit can be overwhelming for a tiny tot. But if you're looking for a gentle partner to travel through life with, I will always be there for you. Primary Color: Tan Weight: 17.63 Age: 8yrs 7mths 1wks

Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereThis Dog is Available By Appointment Only Sabina is a hidden gem. She's very sweet, loyal, cuddly, on the quiet side, walks great on leash, and is potty trained. She doesn't mind other dogs but prefers to keep to herself and is more of an introvert than a social butterfly. Given her mellow attitude, she may not mind cats, but she has not been exposed to them. She gets nervous in new environments and spooked by loud and unexpected noises, so a home with older children would be best to ensure she's her best self. She's very mellow and spends most of her day relaxing in her bed or cuddling with you on the couch. She's also an excellent overnight guest; she sleeps through the night and rarely moves from her spot. She's not a huge barker; we've only seen her bark when my resident chihuahua starts it, and she joins in. She's great for someone looking for a smaller dog without the giant attitude. We have not been crate-training her, given that she is not destructive when we are gone, although she is used to being in her playpen and can be left in there overnight or while you're out. She prefers to be next to you rather than tucked away. We are working on separation anxiety and possessiveness; she growls when we are petting or cuddling with her, and other dogs get close. She also cries when no humans are in the room, but this has been happening less and less as she gets used to us. We are working on these with her, and she seems to respond well to consistent training, treats, pets, and verbal rewards. Sabina is a flight risk and will run off if she is spooked, so whoever adopts her should do on-leash walks only with her for as long as needed as she gets used to her new environment. Sabina has bloomed so much in her time with us; she went from terrified and distant to sweet and cuddly. She is a prime example of what a little love and a feeling of safety can do. She would be ideal in a home that wants a close companion and can give her a consistent routine in a calm environment. We hope that she goes to someone who is patient and willing to earn her trust. Ideally, someone whose love language is cuddles and affection. Sabina will be sure to return that love a hundredfold. Follow her foster adventures @adopt_sabina on Instagram! I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog E:5Aw, Magoo, we know you are overwhelmed right now but are an affectionate good boy under that stressed exterior! Magoo is an 18 pound youngster that is looking for an understanding home to help him blossom into a confident good dog. A gentle dog friend may help him learn the ropes, decompress and open up, or he could be a solo dog. He is handsome and soft, eventually accepts pets but has been very shy at the shelter. Magoo will need basic training from leash walking training on up, but this sweet boy will blossom into a very good dog and will be worth your time and effort. Looking for a sweet project dog that you can help grow into your dream companion? Come and meet Magoo!October 2, 2024, 9:38 am

Story
Hi Pali and team! In May of 2016 Lux (aka Lily) and I found eachother at your Memorial Day event. Over the last 8 years we’ve pretty much grown up together! She was described as a senior dog then, but as luck would have, the old girl is thriving. Our vet estimates her to be between 15-17 now! I’m reaching out as Lux is an alumni, and I know that once a “Rocket Dog, always a Rocket Dog.” Over the last 2 years I’ve had 2 children, and while they adore Lux, I cannot say the feeling is mutual. She and I have been together long enough that I can tell she is visibly unhappy and not her usual self since our family has grown. In the last 12mo she has run away twice, despite having secure yard. She snaps at both babies (would never actually bite, she’s a sweetheart!!) and is showing signs of depression. As much as I’d love to be selfish here and keep her within our tribe, I know deep down that she is no longer happy. I’d like to explore returning her to RD, and sponsoring her care until ado

Story
Long-Haired Chihuahua Mix Age: 3-5 years Male, neutered 11 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) PLEASE NOTE: We do not adopt any of our dogs out to families with children under the age of 13. Here is what Bodhi’s foster family has to say about him: “Meet our foster dog, Bodhi. He's a Heinz 57 of dogs, a little bit of everything. Bodhi is a character, and can be a little quirky. It took him a week before he wanted to have anything to do with us. After that week, he came out of his shell. He is a loving dog, that would be great in a home with 1-2 adults, no children. He would do great being the only dog. He can be a lap guarder, and he does not like to share said lap with other dogs. Bodhi is great on leash walks, and he is getting used to hanging out in the yard while I garden. When we started bringing him outside, he would do his business and then go back inside. Now, he is learning to hang out outside and relax. When Bodhi gets excited, he becomes a bit of mouthy player. (He does not bite down.) Just to add some observations from Bodhi’s previous foster home - he is pretty much a “one person” or “one family” dog. He is not too keen on interacting with strangers (visitors to your home or out in public). Potential adopters should be prepared to give Bodhi time to adjust to a new environment and new owners. He will likely take at least a couple weeks to trust and feel comfortable. It won't happen overnight. For more information about Bodhi, contact nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com
