Story
Hi, I’m Porter – And I’m Ready for My Happily Ever After! Hello, world! My name is Porter, and I’m a little lady with a big heart looking for my forever home. I weigh about 15–18 pounds, and I might be some kind of Chihuahua mix (I like to think I’m a perfect blend of cute and cuddly!). My life hasn’t been easy, but things are looking up—and I’m hoping you’ll be the one to make my dreams come true. My Story I was picked up as a stray and taken to the pound. I waited there for over a month, hoping my people would come for me. Every day, I wagged my tail and looked at the door, but no one ever showed up. Maybe it was because I had what looked like an injured leg—I couldn’t put any weight on it, and I know that scared people away. But here’s the truth: I wasn’t broken. I was sick. After some tests, the kind folks at Central Arizona Animal Rescue discovered I had Valley Fever. That’s why I limped and felt so tired. Valley Fever is a fungal infection that dogs (and even humans!) can get in the Southwest. It sounds scary, but it’s treatable! I’m on medication now, and guess what? I’m already feeling so much better. I’m starting to run, play, and enjoy life again. My future is bright—I just need someone to keep me on my meds and love me forever. What’s Valley Fever? Valley Fever happens when dogs inhale fungal spores from the soil. It can cause coughing, fever, weight loss, and sometimes joint pain—like what I had. The good news? With medication and regular vet checkups, most dogs recover and go on to live happy, healthy lives. I’m already improving every day, and I promise I’ll reward your care with endless love and loyalty. Who Am I? I’m a sweet, gentle girl who’s been through a lot. I can be a little shy with strangers at first—maybe because I was in pain for so long—but now that I’m feeling better, I love chin scratches and ear rubs. Those are my favorite! I’m also great with other dogs and love to play with them. If you have a pup at home, I’d be thrilled to have a buddy. What Do I Need? I’m spayed, current on all my vaccinations, and microchipped—so I’ll never get lost again. I just need a family who will keep me on my Valley Fever medication and give me the love I’ve been waiting for. I’m ready to go home today! A cozy bed, a few toys, and a heart full of kindness—that’s all I ask. Why Choose Me? Because I’m a fighter. I didn’t give up when life got hard, and now I’m ready to give you everything I’ve got. I’ll be your loyal companion, your snuggle buddy, and your reason to smile every single day. When you adopt me, you’re not just saving a dog—you’re giving me the second chance I deserve. Want to Meet Me? If you think we’re meant to be, please email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. Come meet me, scratch my chin, and let’s start our journey together. I’ve waited long enough for my forever family. Maybe it’s you? I sure hope so. Let’s make this the happiest chapter of my life—together.     PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.   All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis. Meet Tsunami: A Loyal Little Chihuahua/Dachshund Mix Waiting for His Person Hi… my name is Tsunami, and I’m a 4&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix with a soft heart, a shy spirit, and a whole lot of hope that someone out there is looking for a dog just like me. My life hasn’t been simple, but I’m ready for my next chapter—and maybe that chapter begins with you. I was picked up as a stray by animal control in Yuma. I don’t remember much about where I came from, and nobody ever came looking for me. After waiting, I was brought to Central Arizona Animal Rescue in mid&#226&#128&#145November, and I’ve been here ever since. I’ve gone to several adoption events, but somehow, I’m still waiting for my forever home. I’m not giving up, though. I know the right person will see me and understand me. A Little About Me Timid with strangers, but gentle once I trust you Best suited for adults or older children who understand shy dogs Nervous around other dogs, even small ones Classic Chihuahua personality—I bond deeply with one person Brindle and black coat, which makes photos tough but looks beautiful in person Okay being picked up and held once I know you’re safe My Personality I’m a quiet, thoughtful little guy. New people can feel overwhelming, and I need time to warm up. But once I choose you—once I know you’re my person—I love deeply and loyally. That’s the Chihuahua side of me. Chihuahuas are known for forming strong attachments to one special human. We’re devoted, protective, and happiest when we feel safe with our chosen person. I’m exactly that way. I probably haven’t been around many dogs in my past, because even dogs my size make me nervous. I’m not aggressive—I just don’t know what to do. I’d be happiest as the only dog in the home, where I can relax and not worry about sharing space with other animals. I don’t know how I feel about cats or young children, but because I’m timid, a calm, predictable home with adults or older kids would help me feel secure. My Health & Care I’m all ready for my new home. I’m current on vaccinations I’ve been neutered I’m microchipped, so I’ll always have a way to find my way back home My coat is a beautiful brindle and black mix—unique and striking in person, even if the camera doesn’t always capture it well. What I’m Hoping For I’m not looking for a busy household or a loud environment. I’m looking for someone patient, gentle, and understanding—someone who sees past my shyness and recognizes the loyal companion underneath. I want a home where I can feel safe, where I can curl up next to my person, and where I don’t have to compete for attention. I imagine quiet evenings, soft voices, gentle hands, and the comfort of knowing I finally belong somewhere. I imagine being loved not for being outgoing or flashy, but for being me. Maybe you’re imagining the same thing. If you’d like to meet me, please e&#226&#128&#145mail mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. I’ll be here at Central Arizona Animal Rescue, waiting with hope in my heart for the person who reads this and thinks, “He’s the one.”   PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.   All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis.
