IMPORTANT!! Due to time and staffing constraints, ALL inquiries/questions MUST BE accompanied by your completed Adoption Application (Matchmaking Questionnaire). See above for the link to the form. Any inquiries/questions sent without the completed form will NOT receive a response. Thank You for understanding. Affectionate "special needs" Ginger is 4 years old and in search of a loving home that is as special as she is. Ginger had a rough start in life and for the first year of her puppyhood she was strictly confined in a tiny crate with only a few potty breaks. As a result, she suffers from claustrophobia and is terrified of leashes. Despite all this, Ginger is a loving and friendly girl who likes nothing better than to jump up on your lap for a tummy rub, or sit beside you on the couch watching TV. She also loves sleeping in bed with you. She likes toys and chew bones and running around out in the back yard. Ginger is good with other pets and us perfectly potty trained. She uses the doggie door and never makes a mess. Ginger would be the ideal companion for someone who doesn't take their dog for a walk and just wants a friendly and loving pet to be their best friend. Her adoption fee is $125 and includes her spay and all shots.

Story
Hi everyone! My name is Baby and I am a sweet, laid back 8-pound, 10 year-old female Chihuahua mix who wants nothing more than to cuddle and love you.  I may take a little bit to warm up at first as I’m still a little cautious with strangers but I do warm up quickly, especially if you have a little treat you wanted to share with me. I am house-trained and my favorite thing is to sleep and watch tv with you.  I know I would make an excellent addition to your loving home.  I get along fine with small dogs in my foster home but as I am older now I don’t play as much Baby is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee of $250 helps offset the rescue's medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: Adoption Application - Help A Dog Smile .  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up.October 27, 2024, 11:59 pm

Story
Welcome Mona, our little 10 pound cutie!  Mona can be a bit shy when first introduced to new folks but warms up quickly.  At 8 years old, she is looking for that perfect lap to call her own.  She loves to receive human attention and will sometimes get a bit pushy when other littles want attention.  She does respond well when corrected with "No". Her foster mom says she is great when walking on a leash but loves the after-walk couch time even more!  Her best fit would be as an only dog or with a small, male, laid-back doggy. Mona is house, crate and leash trained, must have a securely fenced yard in her forever home. Households with young children are not a good fit for Mona.   Mona is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee of $350 helps offset the rescue's medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*:     Adoption Application - Help A Dog Smile .      *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Story
My name is River and I am a 6- month-old puppy:   Here is my story.  I came into the rescue with my 3 sisters because the family couldn’t take care of all of us.   I am the explorer of the group. My foster mom says that if there is a way out of the puppy play area, I will be the one to find it. I am known for being the best kisser and will shower you with affection.  I'm a very playful girl who would absolutely love to have a friend to explore and play with.  I get along great with everyone I meet. I am looking for a family where someone is home most of the time to continue with my house training, doggy socialization and to give me lots of love and attention. I am very much a puppy and will need a patient owner who will work with her on my basic training.  I am potty trained as long as you keep up with taking me out on a regular schedule.  I  will require patience while she transitions to a new environment and schedule.  While I am an indoor dog, I love the fresh air outside and will need a home with a nice, safe fenced yard to run and play in with my family.  I am sorry but I am not suited for apartment/condo living. Please be sure you are ready for the antics of a puppy and a 15+ year commitment when applying. River is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Story
Hi! I’m Archie!  My friend and I were found wandering around in the street at night and were very confused. We were so grateful when some nice people took us in and gave us a safe place to stay. Since our owners could not be found, we are officially HADS dogs. My foster mom says I’m the sweetest boy in the world. I love to give kisses and nose nibbles, and get my belly rubbed. I’m having a great time with my foster siblings, who are other small dogs. I haven’t met any cats or kids yet, but I’m such a nice guy, I’m sure I’d love them too. I’m crate trained and walk pretty good on a leash too! I’d love to find a furever home with people who are looking for a calm and gentle companion. Archie is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee of $350 helps offset medical fees. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think Archie could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application at:     https://www.helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application/ .     *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Story
Meet Buffy, a 4-year-old, 12 lb chi mix looking for her forever home!   Background: For several days, Buffy and her pal Greta were running around terrified and unable to be caught by concerned neighbors. HARTT stepped in to help trap these girls and they made their way to loving foster homes where they await forever homes. Personality: Buffy is a snuggle pro who loves to relax. She is a laid back and loving girl who can’t get enough of her favorite people. She follows her foster mom all around and loves to lay beside her whenever possible. Overall, she is an easy dog who just wants to find her best friend. Could that be you?  Health: Buffy is up to date on all vaccines, spayed, and microchipped.   Training: Buffy is house-trained, crate-trained, and uses a dog door. She is not leashed trained.  Ideal Home: Buffy would love a home where she isn’t left alone too much. We are unsure how she is around small children. She coexists with other dogs but really loves to be with her people and would prefer not to share. She exhibits jealousy when other dogs seek attention from her people and would do best as the only dog in the home. Since Buffy doesn’t enjoy leash walks, a secure, fenced-in yard is a must to keep her safe.   Adoption Requirements: Buffy’s adoption fee is $350. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up.  October 27, 2024, 11:59 pm
