Story
Meet Petey! Petey is a vey loving and handsome Lab mix that was found as a stray. He is looking to bond and be someone's best friend! He has already become very attached to his foster mom and is stressed when she leaves him. He loves to hug and be snuggled with. Petey is high energy but one of those types that needs a quick burst of running and then is happy to settle down and chew on a toy beside his human BFF. He was clearly loved by someone and loves people. He would do well as a hiking buddy or even with agility. He would be best suited for a family or owner that can be home with him much of the time as he is adept at climbing a fence if left in a yard to hang out alone too long! Petey is about 1-2 years old, 60 pounds and heartworm negative. He has been neutered and micro chipped now. Petey is crate trained and house broken! From his foster mom: Petey, full of puppy-love at 60 pounds, is a highly athletic, energetic, water-loving, big-ole best friend kind o’ Boxer/Labrador boy. At two years old, he runs like the wind and leaps into the truck-bed in a single bound for treks around the farm fields. He has come a long way from being totally overwhelmed with separation anxiety - aftermath of being dumped and left in freezing weather totally alone. He has turned out to be a companion animal in every way. He is at perfect peace and happiness just being with his people and fellow-animal friends, including cats (with proper introduction). Once he enters the house, he settles quickly and rests at his person’s feet. This snuggle-bunny thinks all kids were designed to be his ‘besties’. Other dogs seem to find it difficult to take him seriously when he tries to act big-man dominate and at the same time holding his squeaky ragdoll in his mouth. He really has no idea of his size. When Petey gets to playing to rough, the foster’s 20-pound Chihuahua/Beagle mix can scold him and Petey will put on his best pout and try to be still. This joyfully irresistible, big brown-eyed, sweetheart is highly observant – he works to learn his people. If he thinks he is in trouble or has displeased his person, he becomes anxious and will tear up things if he is ignored or not reassured of being loved. Correct him, but love him. Hug him. Relieve him of any fear. That means the world to him. And, his smile is infectious. Petey is very trainable. He is a quick study and eager to please the people he grows to trust. Toys and a secure extra-large kennel to call his own keep him calm when you are away. Another dog-friend that would be his buddy is a good source of comfort for him. Being alone for extended periods of time will be detrimental to Petey’s psyche. Because Petey is so extraordinarily sociable, he shouldn’t be left alone in a fenced area, unless it has a cover. He will jump/climb over to find you and/or if someone or another animal passes by that surely needs his nonaggressive, let’s-play greeting. Petey is a work in progress and would need someone who truly wants to make him a part of the family. If you have much affection, attention, compassion and patience to offer, along with a desire to have an athletic canine companion, Petey may just be your dream come true. Petey is currently in TN but will be transported north to New England for adoption. The adoption donation is $300 which includes a health certificate and costs for his transport north. If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please go to www.angelsamongusanimalrescue.org and fill out an online adoption application. Thank you! *Unless stated otherwise, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, on flea/tick product and heartworm prevention medicine (if older than 5 months) and micro chipped prior to adoption. *Please note that while we do our best to accurately state the breed or breed mix of a dog, we often have very limited information to draw from. Identifying the breed without pedigrees and information on heritage can be very challenging!

Story
Heartworm negative Beth and her siblings were brought in by Animal Control in March 2023. They were estimated to be 4 or 5 months old then. These pups had zero human interaction. Their mother and 3 siblings were rescued and have been gone several months. We have three remaining. They are the "Yellowstone Pups". They are our playmates for most of our male dogs. They LOVE LOVE LOVE to play!! They remain shy with people, but have made positive improvements. These pups came in starving. They are all food aggressive with dogs and are fed separately. It's very manageable. The ideal home for Beth (or her sisters) is one with a secure fenced yard (they are flight risk) and at least one confident and playful dog. A male would be best. A family with some experience with shy dogs would be ideal. Contact us to meet Beth or any of our pups. See less Comments
