Story
Meet Keko, a 2-year-old bundle of joy ready to fill your home with love and laughter! This sweet and happy girl has a zest for life, and she’s always eager to go on walks, where she’s a star on the leash. Keko loves playtime, whether it’s a game of fetch or romping around with her favorite toys. When the fun is done, Keko’s all about snuggling up with her favorite people for some quality cuddle time. She’s a smart pup too—she already knows how to sit and shake! She has also shown signs that she may be housebroken. Keko would be the perfect companion for an active person or family who can keep up with her playful spirit and give her the love and attention she deserves. Come meet Keko, and let her melt your heart!   Personality: Friendly, affectionate, playful, cuddly Leash Manners: Walks well Favorite Activities: Playing with toys, going for walks, playing fetch, cuddling Training: Knows basic commands like sit and shake, shows signs of being housebroken   Volunteer Notes: “Such a sweet and happy girl, good on her leash!” “Very lovely, loves cuddles and is calm” “She is perfect <3”   *Just a heads up, the way dogs behave here at the shelter might not be exactly how they act in a home environment. Dog behavior can change once they find their forever family. These are just our observations from their time at the SPCA of SWMI.* ##2205708##

Story
Titus, a 13 year old lab mix senior, has been with the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue for two years already. It’s hard to believe! He is ready for his forever “retirement” home. Titus is a sweet and gentle giant and would be a perfect addition for a family looking for a dog who’s eager to relax and take it easy. The things Titus loves include: car rides, treats, and absolutely every person he ever met! The things Titus does not care for include: other dogs (he’s highly dog selective), small animals including cats, and watching the trash trucks and school buses drive by :) TItus’s ideal home would have someone who is home most of the day, although he can be left for several hours and do just fine. He loves being with people, but is also just as happy to nap in another room…just don’t be surprised when he shows up to check on you after he wakes up. Titus gets spurts of silly playfulness and enjoys playing with toys, especially bones and toys that make noise. He has a couple of habits his foster family would like you to know about. He likes to sleep on couches and dog beds. He loves going outside but, due to arthritis, he prefers not to go for walks. And when he meets a friendly person, he’ll walk in between their legs and stand there until he is petted. He’s a big dog and it is funny to see, but it can be rather unexpecting to others and may take them off guard. He came to his foster family with this habit and he is not interested in breaking it, it’s how he shows his affection! And speaking of food, Titus came to the rescue extremely overweight. His previous owner, who had him for about five months, worked very hard with him and helped him lose ten pounds. He has lost an additional 13 pounds while with his foster family. Titus is a work in progress in this area, and will need to continue working on his weight management.Titus takes medication twice a day for arthritis. He can do some stairs like when going outside, but he currently lives in a two story house and will not go up an entire flight of stairs. He also has some lipomas, likely due to his old age. He has had these checked out by the vet and no action/treatment was recommended for them. While with the KAR, Titus’s medical and dental needs have been cared for and he’s a happy dog as a result! If you think you'd like to meet Titus to see if he'd be a good fit, you can check him out on the KAR's website. His foster parents are BValade.    The adoption fee for Titus is $125.Please complete our online application form if you are interested in adopting Titus. A volunteer will contact you as soon as possible. Click here to go to the online adoption form All Kalamazoo Animal Rescue dogs & puppies are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs have been heartworm tested and if appropriate (age and time of year) all dogs and puppies are given heartworm preventative. All are given medication to rid them of roundworms and checked and treated for fleas & ear mites, if needed. Dogs and puppies are given distemper vaccines and depending on how long the pet has been in foster care, additional distemper vaccine(s) may be necessary and the expense will be incurred by the adopter. Any canine over 4 months of age is brought current on the Rabies vaccine. Additional vet care may have been provided depending on the particular animal's needs. Dogs are individually priced as above. Please note that we do not ship dogs and we cannot guarantee that a long trip to see a foster dog will result in an adoption or taking the dog home on that day. It is in the best interest of pooch and owner to enroll in an obedience class soon after adoption. After all, you have a lot to learn about your new friend. The Kalamazoo Dog Training Club offers a discount to owners with newly adopted dogs. Enroll before any behavior problems start - you won't regret it!
