Story
Meet Piper — A Gentle, Devoted Senior Companion Looking for a Softer, Slower Life
Piper is a King Charles Cavalier/Havanese mix with a heart full of love and a lifetime of being someone’s loyal shadow. She has been cherished her whole life, and it shows in her gentle nature, her easygoing temperament, and her deep desire to simply be close to her person.
As she’s gotten older, Piper has started to struggle with stairs and long walks, and the busy, active lifestyle of her current home is more than her body can comfortably keep up with. She also became noticeably sad after the passing of her canine companion, and while she gets along beautifully with other pets, she truly thrives when she has her own individual attention.
Personality & Temperament
Sweet, affectionate, and incredibly gentle
Laploving companion who wants nothing more than to be close
Dog friendly & cat friendly
Stranger friendly and enjoys calm visitors
Great with older children (6+); fast movements from younger kids can overwhelm her
Not an excessive barker, but will alert to people at the door or things outside
Kisser, cuddler, and comfortseeker
Piper is the kind of dog who wants to sit beside you, follow you from room to room, and soak up every bit of affection you offer.
Home Skills
Housebroken
Crate trained
Leash trained
Easy to care for and wellmannered
Her back legs shake a bit when she tries to climb onto furniture, and she’s carrying some extra weight, so a home where she doesn’t need to jump or navigate many stairs will help her stay comfortable.
She is also a little hard of hearing — she hears you, but if she’s farther away, clapping your hands is a great way to get her attention, especially outdoors.
The Home She Needs
Piper’s ideal home is calm, steady, and full of love. She would thrive with:
An older adult or retired person who wants a constant companion
A home with minimal stairs
Someone who enjoys short, gentle walks
A person or family who appreciates a dog who wants to be near them
Other pets are perfectly fine — she gets along with everyone — but she still needs her own individual attention
She is not a highenergy dog. She is a heart dog, meant for someone who wants a warm, quiet presence by their side.
The suggested adoption donation for Piper is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for theirpet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.
