Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $700   Katniss is a 1 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Dachshund mix who is ready to win the competition for her future parent’s hearts! Katniss was rescued from District 12 (aka the local shelter) when her former home was no longer able to give her the time she deserved. We promised to find her a fabulous forever home and scooped her up, ready to start her fabulous life in the Victor’s Village! This gorgeous gal weighs 12 pounds and has a beautiful, glossy coat that makes her the envy of the neighborhood! If you are ready for your very own girl on fire, bring home Katniss Everdeen today!      'Katniss is a total sweetheart who is a dream dog to have in your life. She came to our rescue shy and shut down, but once she got comfortable she started showing us her amazing personality. She has been learning how to “dog” from her canine foster siblings and every day she discovers more of the world around her. She loves her walks and knows that the leash means it is time for a new adventure!' Katniss has become quite the cuddler as she has settled into her foster home and we know this gal just wants to be loved and show love in return. Katniss is a couch potato kind of gal though she does love her walks! She loves going on fun adventures with her foster siblings and is a fabulous member of a canine pack. Katniss is a sweet girl who needs a home where her people are ready to show her the love she has been missing. She has so much potential and we know she has a fantastic future ahead of her. This girl on fire can’t be stopped from showing us all how amazing she is!  Katniss starts her morning with a relaxing breakfast followed by a trip to the park near her foster home. She spends the late morning snoozing on her soft bed and playing with her toys. Lunchtime brings another potty break and a trip to the park for another potty break. She spends her afternoon in her dog teepee tent which she absolutely adores. In the evening, she embarks on her favorite part of the day, her evening walk. Once she returns home, she gets her dinner around 7:30 PM. In the evening, she gets a good brushing followed by a long cuddle session. Before she gets ready for bed, she gets one last trip out for potty. She now spends the night sleeping at the foot of the bed or in the middle of her people. She just loves being with her people and dreams of the adventures ahead of her!  Katniss lives with two smaller dogs and absolutely adores them. She gains confidence when she takes her cues from them. She coexists with the resident cat. She is unsure of humans she doesn’t know but she is working on expanding her social skills. Katniss walks well on a leash but does startle occasionally as she is still working on building her confidence. Katniss is going to be such a fabulous addition to her forever home and can’t wait to meet you!     Katniss is only an option for homes who currently own a dog or who have experience with shy dogs. No kids for Katniss, teens and up only. September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm

They were rescued from a homeless encampment by one of our volunteers and brought into our rescue at only 6 weeks old. Now that they’ve grown big and strong they are ready for their forever homes! This litter is 2 girls and 1 boy. We expect these puppies to be in the 8-11 pound range when fully grown. These adorable puppies can’t wait to go back to school supply shopping and find you at the end of their checklist!      Pencil (F): Pencil is a loving and affectionate puppy looking to write her happily ever after! Pencil is super playful but is the most likely to take a break from activities for a well-deserved nap. Pencil is such a cute gal who is currently rocking a half-up, half-down ear situation. We can’t wait to see what she looks like as she grows! She is so sweet and gentle, softly snoozing the afternoons away from the comfort of a warm lap. Pencil is working on her track skills and has a silly little gallop as she chases after her sisters and brother. She has soft fur that is a total dream to pet and she knows just how adorable she is! If you’re looking for a brand new Pencil to start the school year with, add this cutie to your pack!  Lunchbox (F): Lunchbox is an outgoing, friendly gal who greets the world with a smile on her face and a wag in her tail! She has an adorable little hop that instantly wins over even the most dog-skeptical of humans. She is so playful and hilarious, dragging toys behind her that are larger than her little body. Lunchbox also loves cuddling and is happiest when she can fall asleep in your lap. This girl will be such a fabulous addition to the home as she is just perfect. She also has amazing Dumbo ears which sets her apart from her littermates. All the better to hear the compliments she gets as we like to say! Lunchbox can’t wait to pack up a snack and hit all the adventures the world has to offer with you!  Stapler (M): Stapler is the charmer of his litter and he can’t wait to attach himself to his former family! As the solo boy in the pack, he faithfully follows his sisters around as they zoom through the house. He is always alert and on the search for a cozy nap spot. His current favorite spot? Under the couch! Stapler is absolutely stunning with soft fur and warm eyes. You won’t be able to resist falling in love with him. Stapler is the true perfect puppy, as he loves to play with his humans until he is ready for a nap in your arms. Stapler also loves his toys and can’t wait for a throne of plushies of his very own. Stapler is so excited to find his forever people and he knows you will stick to him forever like well… a Staple!      The School Supply puppies start their morning at 7 AM with breakfast followed by a trip outside as their pen is cleaned up from overnight potty. They spend their days playing, eating, sleeping, and cuddling on repeat! They love zooming around the house and yard, chasing their toys and their tails. They eat lunch around 12 and have dinner at 5 PM. They love getting pets and scratches from their foster mom and it’s hard to resist their puppy dog eyes! In the evening, once they are tired from a hard day of being an adorable puppy, they head back into their pen and go to sleep.  The puppies have been socialized with dogs of all ages and sizes. They love meeting new people and adore soaking up the coos and cuddles they receive. The puppies will need continued training and socialization to ensure they are fabulous adults. Interested homes should be prepared to discuss training plans. They are such fabulous puppies who can’t wait to hit the classroom with you!      The School Supply puppies are only an option for homes who have owned a dog in the last 5 years. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $650   Candy Corn is a 3 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix who is as sweet as candy! Candy was rescued from the shelter with several of her spooky season pals. We don’t know her backstory but we know her unwritten chapters stretch for miles. Candy Corn walked right over to our shelter volunteer, placing a paw on her lap and flashing her little underbite smile. Folks, we fell instantly in love and knew she had to come with us. Candy Corn can’t wait to make Halloween (and every holiday to come) memories with her forever people so head down to Spirit Halloween (aka DPS Rescue) and bring her home!       Candy Corn is a snuggle bug girl ready to find her cuddle people! She is a total velcro dog and would LOVE to find a WFH person to spend her days with. She arrived in our rescue a bit shut down, but we knew once she had the time to blossom, she’d show us how amazing she is, and she did! Now, she’s always ready for cuddles, couch time, and countless plush toys! As she’s gotten more comfortable, she is less of a shadow to her foster mom, but she still adores being wherever her people are. Candy is a lower energy girl, so no marathons in her future, but she does love getting out and hitting the neighborhood streets. She’s also super smart and follows along with the tv, yipping at the dogs she sees on screen. She’s also quite the foodie and has a very curious palate! If you have a list of dog-friendly local dives to check out, she’d love to put her order in. Candy’s dream home is a mellow environment where she can learn to grow and thrive. As she figures out the whole “explore and play” thing, a loving home ready to build her up would be perfect for her. We know this little lady has so much potential and we can’t wait to see how she shines with you.  Candy Corn’s day starts with a big stretch as she wakes up around 8 AM. She goes right out for potty in the yard before she comes inside for her morning meal. Once she finishes eating, she plops down on the couch for a morning nap. Throughout the day, she alternates between napping around the house, sniffing around the yard, and spending time with her foster mom. She goes on a short walk in the late afternoon, soaking up the sunshine and smells the neighborhood has to offer. She comes home for dinner at 5 PM followed by a dog treat (or two… or three) and a bowl of water. In the evening, Candy hangs out on the couch and watches some TV with her foster mom. She is very attentive and loves the dog food commercials. After one last potty break, she settles in for the night around 9 PM in her foster mom’s bed.  Candy Corn is friendly with dogs who are lower energy like her. Super playful dogs are a bit overwhelming for her as of now but she would thrive as a companion to a resident calm pup. She is working on her separation anxiety with her current foster and her forever home should be ready to continue her confidence building. She walks well on a leash but could use some more exposure to the world. If you’re ready for a new faithful friend, pick up some Candy Corn today!      Candy Corn is only an option for homes who have previously owned a dog of their own. She’s an ideal option for a companion dog. Kids should be over the age of 13.September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm
