Story
Meet Boone — Your Loyal, Loving Adventure Buddy!
Boone is an 11-month-old neutered male German Shepherd with a heart full of love and a mind eager to learn. This handsome boy thrives on connection — he loves being talked to, praised, and told he’s a good boy. (And yes… he absolutely knows when you mean it!)
What Makes Boone Special
Boone is affectionate, intelligent, and happiest when he’s by your side. He bonds deeply with his humans and would do well in a home with one respectful resident dog, as long as he knows it’s forever for the both of them. He enjoys being pet, especially those long, relaxing strokes down his back.
Energy & Enrichment
As a young and active Shepherd, Boone needs daily walks, runs, or play sessions. His absolute favorite activity? Fetch with tennis balls — he could play all day if you let him!
Great in Public & With Kids
Boone has previously lived with children and did great, but he would prefer respectful, gentle kids who understand he sometimes needs a bit of space to build trust.
On a recent outing, Boone walked from Home Depot through the shopping center, past the post office, and over to Chipotle. He handled foot traffic like a champ and let people pass without barking. He even chilled on the grass like a pro!
Grooming & Handling
Boone did wonderfully with brushing — no tucked tail, no pulling away. He enjoyed the attention, which shows how far his confidence has come.
Shelter Behavior & Progress
Boone sometimes gives a big “woof-woof” at unfamiliar people or dogs, but that’s not the personality he shows the person holding his leash. With his handler, he’s trusting, responsive, and wants to do the right thing.
He comes out of his kennel excited — a little loud, lots of tail wagging — but after walks, he’s learning to reenter more calmly. Today, he went back in with only an enticing chicken treat and just two necessary bark-apologies. That’s progress!
Boone is a Gift
Every volunteer who spends time with Boone says the same thing:
He is a gift.
A sensitive, bright, loving dog who just wants someone to guide him, praise him, and help him feel safe.
