Story
Star was rescued in Louisiana. A lady that found her called me and said that she could not find a rescue group in Louisiana to take her. She had a gunshot wound through her jaw and ear. She was in pain. She brought her to me in Mississippi, and I got her the medical treatment that she needed. She had jaw surgery, and now her tongue permanently hangs out. We think this makes her uniquely special!! I know that her tongue hanging out may be a deterrent for a permanent home, but Star is such a sweet baby. She cannot help it that somebody shot her. She is a Catahoula hound, and her tail is docked. Star is a very sweet and loves to ride in the car. She loves dogs, and she loves children. She loves to roll over for a belly rub, and she knows the sit command. She is extremely smart. She loves to load up and ride in the car, and I believe that she was somebody’s baby at one time! Star has been in foster care and boarding for a while, and she wants a forever home! Also, if you live out of state, we use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport. We alternate between the Northeast and the Midwest every other weekend. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee.

Meet Whitey:  Whitey is a beautiful 2 year old Catahoula/Asian Shepherd mix that weighs around 40 lbs. Whitey was abandoned when his owner was arrested and sent to prison. Whitey loves the affection of people and enjoys going for long walks and hikes. Whitely would love a fenced in yard where he could run and play. Whitey would make a great family dog. Whitey is up to date on all his shots and neutered. Story
*SPECIAL NEEDS - PLEASE READ FULL BIO* Celyn! Celyn joined us on December 30, 2023, and we were thrilled to ring in the new year with her. We hoped her stay would be short, but sadly, this sweet girl has been waiting almost 9 months for her forever home. Celyn is a unique and special pup—she’s deaf and partially blind, which sadly causes her to be overlooked time and time again. 💔 ✨ Age: 1 year old 🤫 Weight: About 45 lbs—truly the perfect size! 🐶 Breed: Catahoula Mix (or as we like to call her, a Spotted Secret Keeper) 👃 Special Abilities: SUPER Scenter! Celyn can sniff out anything—her favorite volunteers, a meal, or treats on the way. She may not hear with her ears, but she hears with her heart. ❤️ 🏃‍♀️ Dreams: Celyn wants to run track in the 2028 Paralympics! We haven’t told her yet that the Olympics are only for humans. 🤫 ⚡ Activity Level: Pretty high—she loves to run in the play yard and zoom around with her doggy friends. 🧸 Toys: BIG fan! She’s happy tossing toys to herself or playing with friends. 🍖 Treats: Treats are life! 🥾 Love hiking? So does Celyn! Her disabilities don’t slow her down—she enjoys long hikes with her active volunteer buddies. 💬 Need a secret keeper? Celyn’s your girl. She can’t hear your secrets, so she’ll never spill them! 🐱 Cats? She hasn’t been tested, but we’re happy to try if someone applies for her! 🐕 Dogs? Celyn is a social butterfly and loves her dog pals. 👧 Kids? She does amazing at events and loves meeting kids of all ages! She might get a little in your bubble while sniffing everyone out, though. 🏡 Ideal Family? Active, patient, and excited to train a special-needs dog. Even though Celyn is focused on her Olympic dreams, she will need her family to also be willing to train her as well. Deaf dogs are amazing creatures and are easily trained, often with things like hand signals and other training techniques. Obviously even more care than usual should be taken to make sure she does not accidentally get out off leash as she cannot hear you calling her back and can't hear dangers like cars coming. She may also be partially visually impaired. She does so well, it is really hard to tell! For the boring stuff: Celyn is crate trained and has been working hard on her housebreaking. She prefers going potty off-leash and would benefit from having a yard where she can roam and find some privacy for her bathroom breaks. 🚽 We all need a little alone time, right? She’s been sniffing for her forever family for far too long. This sweet girl is ready to find her home and start her journey to the 2028 Olympics in LA. 😉 Celyn's adoption fee includes her spay, age appropriate vaccinations and microchipping. She is up to date on deworming and preventatives. Interested in Celyn? Story
AND WHAT A SPECIAL GIRL SHE IS . . . DELILAH is lovely 1-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog. This girl is so sweet and beautiful. Before LaMancha, Deliah was stray bound fending for herself, which was very scary, so she’s a tad shy right now getting used to her new surroundings. Delilah loves other dogs, and they really help build her confidence. It’s so cute to watch Deliah playing with her friends. When she’s away from the kennel environment she becomes more relaxed and carefree. She loves to give kisses and loves attention. Oh my, this girl is incredibly sweet and loving! Walking around the farm, she loves to pick up sticks and carry them for her walks. Delilah is sweet and nurturing to her dog friends too. We call her our caretaker. She takes care of her roomies by comforting them and making them feel loved and safe, even though the kennel is scary for her too, she still comforts her roommates. Just a baby herself at 1-year-old, she is a caretaker to puppies too. Deliah is a joy in the field. She loves to run alone or with her roomie and will often “check in” with her people by either smiling at you as she sails by or even bringing toys to you for fetch. She is such a happy girl playing in the field, hanging with her human and dog friends. She’s very sociable when she’s comfortable and away from the kennel environment. This pretty girl would do best in a calmer home who will take it slow with her, while she gets comfortable in her new home. Delilah loves having dog friends so much and would love to have a fursibling in her forever home. She has already won the hearts of all the volunteers. We are confident that you will be telling your friends, “I don’t know who rescued who because Delilah has really changed my life for the better!” To adopt DELILAH, please email Adoptions@LaManchaAnimalRescue.org Spayed, UTD vaccinations, microchipped, wormed. Story
Meet Lincoln! He was born and raised on a farm with his brother, Leroy. When they were younger, he and his brother would hunt hogs and deer. That is why you may notice that they have some marks and scars. Lincoln is a source of comfort for Leroy, who can be nervous without his brother. These two sweet babies are a bonded pair so they would have to be adopted together; However, they are both very well-mannered boys. Lincoln walks well on leash, and appears to be potty trained. Both he and his brother are smart and know sir! Lincoln loves to give kisses and cuddle, sometimes he can get a bit jealous if you give too much attention to his brother, and he will cry. Come meet Lincoln and give both boys a chance! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
