Story
Star was rescued in Louisiana. A lady that found her called me and said that she could not find a rescue group in Louisiana to take her. She had a gunshot wound through her jaw and ear. She was in pain. She brought her to me in Mississippi, and I got her the medical treatment that she needed. She had jaw surgery, and now her tongue permanently hangs out. We think this makes her uniquely special!! I know that her tongue hanging out may be a deterrent for a permanent home, but Star is such a sweet baby. She cannot help it that somebody shot her. She is a Catahoula hound, and her tail is docked. Star is a very sweet and loves to ride in the car. She loves dogs, and she loves children. She loves to roll over for a belly rub, and she knows the sit command. She is extremely smart. She loves to load up and ride in the car, and I believe that she was somebody’s baby at one time! Star has been in foster care and boarding for a while, and she wants a forever home! Also, if you live out of state, we use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport. We alternate between the Northeast and the Midwest every other weekend. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $250 plus taxMeet Bonnaroo! This handsome fella needs a strong, gentle pack leader who will not allow him to be in charge.  Yes he is a big boy and can be a bit overwhelming to some but when he knows you are the boss because you guide him to do the right thing, he is all yes ma’am, yes sir.  He will need continued training and yes, we have a trainer already set up to work with him.  We just need a adopter who is willing to put in the time for socialization and training.  He will thrive in an environment that has boundaries and expectations for him to follow. He is true to his people and although needs a minute to be ok with strangers, once he is comfortable, he is all snuggles and happy wiggles. He is housebroken and crate trained and walks well on a leash.  Right now he prefers to be the only dog in the home.  He can be around other dogs, but is a bit awkward and wants to show them he is the boss.  Yes, the trainer will help with that.   Look at that face…. Won’t you help Bonnaroo be all he can be??   If you have filled out an application please just email adoptionatmars@gmail.com   If you are a previous foster please email fosteratmars@gmail.com   Let's get this big guy home!!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Introducing Hondo, the loyal and brave companion you've been waiting for! Hondo is a true good boy, showcasing his friendly nature with both people and fellow furry friends. He strikes the perfect balance between confident and respectful, making him a wonderful addition to any household dynamic. While Hondo may be a bit head shy when it comes to leashes, it's a trait rooted in his past experiences - his ears once caused him discomfort. But with patience and understanding, he's slowly overcoming this challenge. This resilience highlights his adaptable nature and willingness to grow. Crate training is a breeze for Hondo, reflecting his cooperative spirit. He's well-versed in the art of sitting and enjoys eating a peaceful meal. These traits make him a joy to train and a promising companion for both new and experienced pet owners. Hondo's ideal home is one that's lively and active, as he thrives in an environment where he can stretch his legs and engage in the joyful act of running. With a strong recall foundation already in place, he's open to further fine-tuning this skill. This warrior-dog's name is music to his ears, and he responds to it with enthusiasm. Though his recall could use a bit more polish, his eagerness to learn shines through. Hondo's adaptable and resourceful nature, coupled with his receptive attitude, make him a loyal partner for all your adventures. If you're seeking a four-legged friend who embodies both resilience and companionship, look no further than Hondo. He's ready to stand by your side and show you the depths of his affectionate heart. Foster mom is teaching me so many cool things all the time. I am crate trained and I LOOOVE belly rubs! I would do great with an active family that likes to go on hikes, adventures and give me lots of chewy toys and stimulate my growing mind! We are the ARMY puppies :) Or maybe the MARINE puppies :) Definitely NOT the NAVY puppies, no such thing as MAJOR in the Navy!! So now that we have established our branch, we need to also establish that we are the OFFICERS of the group :) Lieutenant may not be the most EXPERIENCED but she still likes to be in charge, lol. Major is DEFINITELY more experienced at being a puppy and likes to let LT boss her around (a little). So we are the puppies who know what we want and we will let YOU know too! We are Catahoula mixed pups, so we are smart and active and like to have a job. We are easily trained and would love someone to stimulate our minds. So you know about us, and now you need to make that decision!! Do you want to adopt one of us or not? Don't say NO, do say YES and we will get along just fine! We would love to have a playmate in our new homes too, kids or other dog would fit the bill! Please adopt, don't SHOP!! Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by my friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $300.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi! My name is Dozier and I am from Minnesota. From his foster: Don't let his silver muzzle fool you! Dozier is a middle-aged silver fox with lots of pep in his step, a silky smooth coat, and a very distinguished look. Dozier is fully potty trained and can be left home alone without being crated. During the day, he's happy to lounge around the house, be by your side as you perform your daily tasks, or melt into your lap for snuggles. At night, he would love to share your bed and keep you warm. Dozier's biggest challenge is his reactivity to dogs. This means he'll bark and get very stressed when he sees another dog even from a significant distance. Sometimes other things like a person walking by or dogs barking can also set him off. We are diligently working with Dozier to change his associations with these triggers and are starting to see progress but it takes time and patience. Despite his reactivity to dogs, Dozier has built a positive relationship with our other foster dog who is also dog-reactive. They both needed their own space as they got used to each other and slow introductions with integration over a couple of weeks. Now they play together, relax together, and enjoy each other's company. We're confident that Dozier could build a close bond with other dogs if done gradually. What would help Dozier thrive? -An adopter who understands that Dozier is not the type of dog you can take to the neighborhood coffee shop, a busy lake for a walk, or the dog park. Even with progress over time, Dozier will likely always need more space from unfamiliar dogs. For this reason, we don't think Dozier would be successful in a high-density environment or apartment/condo building. -Access to outdoor environments without a lot of dogs. This could be a home with more distance between houses, a yard with a 6-foot tall privacy fence (he can jump over 4-foot fences), or someone who is willing to go to less busy environments for walks. His foster home is on a walking path with people and dogs passing by but we take him to business developments, schools after hours, roads near the edge of town, cemeteries, and SniffSpots for walks and quality outdoor time. -Someone who can be patient with Dozier and make choices that help him manage his reactivity. The fewer opportunities he has to react, the better. -Someone who is willing to build a strong relationship with Dozier. With the help of anti-anxiety medication and building trust, Dozier's confidence is growing. -Someone who will love him! Dozier has lots of love to give and is such a good, sweet boy!

Story
Hi! I'm Boudreaux, aka Boo! I am from Missouri! Hey there, I'm Boudreaux, and I'm a bundle of joy with a tail that never stops wagging! I'm still a playful pup with heaps of energy, so I'm looking for someone who's up for a little adventure and can help me master the art of leash walking and not jumping on people when I'm super excited (I promise, I'm working on it!). I've got a serious soft spot for squeaky toys-I could run around with those forever! Tennis balls? Not so much. But tug-of-war? Oh, count me in! One of our neighbor's dogs came over barking like crazy, but I was like, "Hey there, wanna play? When we met (on leash, of course), I was the perfect gentleman. The other dog wasn't into it, so it was a quick meet-and-greet, but I was totally chill and would be thrilled to have a furry friend to hang out with! Car rides? Well, I'm still warming up to them. I'm a bit unsure about jumping in, but once I'm in, I'm a relaxed passenger-just chillin' and enjoying the ride! I'm your go-to squirrel patrol specialist. I only bark when there's a sneaky squirrel in sight, but otherwise, I'm pretty mellow. I'm a strong guy, so leash training will help us walk together like pros. Thankfully I am super treat motivated (and smart of course) so it makes training a breeze. Ready to make some fun memories together? Let's do this!

Meet Ike, a resilient 3-year-old Hound mix with a story that's sure to touch your heart. Ike's journey began in Nebraska, where he was briefly cared for by another rescue group before making his way to Animal Ark in search of his forever home. When he arrived, poor Ike was in rough shape, with a swollen muzzle that turned out to be full of porcupine quills-ouch! But with lots of love, proper care, and some serious TLC, Ike made a full recovery and is now ready to find a family who will cherish him. Weighing about 50 pounds, Ike is a bundle of energy and the perfect companion for someone who loves the outdoors. If you're looking for a hiking buddy who's always up for an adventure, Ike is your guy! He's friendly, outgoing, and has a zest for life that's contagious.Ike is happiest when he's the center of attention, so he'd prefer to be your one and only pet. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. JohnnyStorm is a sweet and playful puppy who came to us as an owner surrender, and he's truly a little bundle of joy. He absolutely adores snuggles and has a quirky love for toys—any kind! Whether it’s a dog toy, a kid’s toy, or even shoes, he’ll happily grab whatever’s nearby. Matchbox cars seem to be a favorite, but Crocs are his go-to shoes, so we definitely have to keep those and the non-dog toys out of reach! He gets along well with everyone—adults, kids (my 5-year-olds adore him), and other dogs too. He has a bit of a playful rivalry with my cat; they love to “exchange words,” with JohnnyStorm barking and the cat hissing in return. Outdoors is where he really lights up, darting around to chase every scent he can find. With the cooler weather, though, he does shiver a bit. He’s still mastering leash walking, and while he’s learning not to walk in front of us (to avoid getting stepped on), it’s always an entertaining challenge! When it comes to mealtime, he used to be a bit of a grazer, nibbling on breakfast, lunch, or dinner and coming back for more throughout the day. But he's gotten better lately, polishing off about 1/2 to 3/4 of his meal in one sitting. Full of energy and a little sass, JohnnyStorm's daily zoomies are a joy to watch—especially when he’s around other dogs. We think he’s grown a bit since we first got him, and his fur is starting to change colors, so maybe that Catahoula side of him will shine through soon! JohnnyStorm is from Texas.   If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. Let me introduce Chance, one of the coolest dogs in our rescue! His foster mother has medical issues, and she wants him to find his furever home ASAP! This awesome guy was abandoned in the woods, alone in the middle of nowhere, when he was still a puppy – scared and left to die young. He is extremely sweet. Chance loves toys and playing fetch - playtime is high on his wish list. He is very friendly, never meets a stranger, and loves absolutely everyone he meets. He still has a puppy spirit and needs activity & exercise! He would be great for an active family that hikes or runs, as long as there are cuddles and belly rubs. His leash walking is progressing well. He gets along well with other dogs with proper introduced. He will be happiest as a loving family companion. Willa and Watson (siblings) came from the Brookhaven pound. We saw them on Face Book. The Brookhaven pound was going to put these puppies down because they were so shy. They couldn’t find a rescue group to take them. We decided to help them. They are super sweet, but they are very shy. Walter is not as shy as Willa. They feel very comfortable in their environment, but when taken to the vet, they do get nervous. They do respond to love, but they need somebody that will spend time with them. Because we are so overcrowded, they have never had an opportunity to live in the house. They were heavily bonded at the foster’s house, and they loved to play together. The foster did not spend any time with them, but the children played with them some in the fenced in area. They play well with other dogs, but they have never been around cats. Since they have been at Blue Ribbon Kennels, they have been in separate kennels for the past 13 months. They both need a special home with somebody that will spend a lot of time loving them, giving them a lot of attention and being patient with them. Plese help Willa, and maybe even consider adopting both of them! Willa and Watson are in Mississippi. Rescue Riders is a very reliable pet transport and will transport Willa to her new home. This is included in the adoption fee.
