Story
Moka is almost 3 years old (born October 7, 2021) and 45 pounds. She walks well on a leash, is crate-trained, house-trained (rings a bell when she needs to go out), and knows the following commands: sit, lay down, wait, place, and come. She enjoys cuddling, playing with, or just chilling in the same room as her people. Moka takes daily medication for anxiety and allergies. She is shy with strangers, particularly men, and takes time to warm-up to people. She likes most dogs and has a few best friends in the neighborhood she plays with often. She lived well with a guinea pig and cat but has been the only pet in the home for the past 8 months. We love Moka, she is a great dog, and we need to rehome her due to divorce.

Story
I’ve fostered Scar for about two months, along side my personal dog that I’ve owned for three years (female pit). Scar has puppy energy and needs space to run. He obeys commands very well and is very attached to his owner. He follows me everywhere! He is kennel trained, as soon as I ask him he goes in or as soon as I grab a treat he runs to his kennel. He is used to being kept in the kennel on a full time schedule, about 8 hours a day. He still has a puppy bladder so he needs to go out often as of right now but he will stand by the door when he needs to go. Scar is very timid at first but after a couple sniffs he’ll love anyone he meets. He is very cuddly and will ask for belly rubs every opportunity he gets. I love him and did everything I could to keep him. My landowner has told me that I can no longer have 2 dogs and unfortunately I can’t give Scar back to his owner either. Scar is a great best friend for my dog and could be a great best friend for you or yours.

Story
Duke is a goofy cuddle bug with endless energy and a quick mind. He loves to run and play and has plenty of love to give. Duke would thrive in a home with an active family, jogging, running, hiking, swimming, he’s down for anything. Duke is an especially smart boy and with the right motivation (a handful of yummy treats) he is focused and responsive to training. We think he would thrive in an agility class. With some consistency and dedication, Duke could be a real king among dogs. Duke would be most comfortable in a home in an adult only family that can handle his zesty perception of life. He is a very fun, loving, and quirky boy, but should have a confident and experienced handler. He has made some canine playmates at MAS, but some dogs he would rather just co-exist and not interact with. If Duke sounds like your kind of guy, submit an adoption application at the MAS website below to get the adoption process started! DOB: 4/21/2019 For safety's sake, we are looking for homes with physical fenced in areas. Please fill out our online adoption survey at www.mackenzies.info/adopt/adoption-survey-application/

Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
