Story
Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Age: 3 years Weight: 75 lb Dogs: Yes Cats: No; Including Chickens Kids: Yes Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : In Training Location: Warren, ME Shadow is everything that you read about Catahoula Leopard dogs. He loves his family but has energy that is endless! He loves to play, but he would be just fine being the only dog in the home, if you gave him a job! He is also the true essence of his name; he loves to be your Shadow! If you don’t keep him busy then he will keep himself entertained, and it might be a shoe or something else that won’t make you happy – so know the breed before reaching out! You must have breed experience to adopt Shadow. Shadow has lived his whole life with this one family and unfortunately, due to life events that have nothing to do with him, he needs to be rehomed. This will be tough for him, so he will need a new family that understands the breed and knows this is not a ready-made dog; due to the pandemic he has missed some key socialization periods and has not seen as much as some dogs and the world is still scary to him! Please know that if you do not have ANY Catahoula experience, ANY plans to further train him or plans to exercise him daily with a job that will work his brain and body – please do not apply. If you are interested in adopting Shadow, please click the link below: http://www.nehoularescue.com/adoption-application.html Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Shadow’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Story
Pongo Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound Mix Age: 8 year +/- est Weight: 50 lbs Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, altered Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Ages 7+ House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Pennsylvania Pongo is 8 years old and weighs 50lbs. He is a stunning white and gray Catahoula. Pongo is very much the happy-go-lucky type once he settles in. He lives for evenings of belly rubs and snuggles. Pongo does have a brother and we would LOVE to see them go together; however, it is not mandatory. If, you are interested Bongo is 7 years old and weighs 50lbs. He is a gorgeous black and gray Catahoula with a big, confident personality. Bongo is pretty unphased by most things, even tolerating bath time. His one vice is cats. He does not like them at all and has no interest in being friendly with them. A couple things to know about both dogs: NO cats, dogs are o.k. after slow introductions. The boys are good with children & adults after slow introductions but do prefer females over males. The boys are house and crate trained. They sleep in the create together at night without issue. They love the outdoors and car rides. They do well on leash. They are very treat motivated and ice cream is their absolute favorite! They do very well with structure and routine. Story
Lanie Breed: Catahoula/Dane Mix Age: 3 Year +/- Weight: 64 lbs Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, Spayed Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Ages 10+ House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Connecticut Lanie is a big, muscular gal who needs a lot of people and a fenced yard in her life. She would be happy having lots of people home with her at various times of the day and/or people who take her everywhere they go. She has resting "sad-face" but I don't think she's actually sad. (She also has a white snout but she's still young, don't let that fool you) She is sort of stoic and independent minded, although she's gotten more friendly and snuggly since she has been here. She is good with other dogs and has no on-leash reactivity to them when on walks. She is very squirrel reactive and will chase them. She has escape artist tendencies and can jump over a four-foot fence, dig under a fence, and even jump through a window screen to get outside. (Why? I think it's because she's bored or sees squirrels. She doesn't go far, but she does want to see what's on the other side.) She does ok on walks, although she does seem uncertain on the leash. She likes to chew on Nyla-bones and other durable toys. Story
Arlo Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Border Collie Mix Mix Age: 11 months est Weight: 50 lbs Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, neutered Cat Friendly: Yes Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: Children are not recommended. House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Maine Arlo and his sister Amber, were street dogs in Texas that found their way to a high-kill shelter. Both were saved, at the eleventh hour. It was then that we saw the true extent of the abuse that Arlo suffered at the shelter. Arlo being the youngest of his pack that was saved, had not had a lot of human interaction and what he had was not very positive. Therefore, he is very fearful of people. However, once he gets past that initial fear, he loves you with all his heart and then some. He is the goofiest, nuttiest dog you will ever meet. He loves to play, run and be your shadow. And when I say shadow, if you stop fast, well I don't have to finish that statement.... Arlo will push his head into you and basically hugs you – it is the cutest thing. He knows how to crate (though he does not love it), he plays nicely with his dog buddies and really wants to play with his cat brothers. Leash work is a work in process. Arlo is very ADHD and is very easily distracted. **DISCLAIMER** So, he sounds like a dream, right? Arlo is a dog that is not for everyone. If you work a lot and have little time for a dog. He is not for you. If you have a lot of people that come over, he is not for you. If you live in the city or have an apartment, he is not for you. If you have kids or grandchildren that come over all the time, he is not for you. This dog is HIGH ENERGY. He needs a job. He also takes at least a solid month if not longer to trust people and if you are easily scared by dog behavior he will win. Arlo is a dog that will reward you and then some, BUT you must be in it heart and soul otherwise he is not the right dog for you. Story
Ginger - RI Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Age: 2 years old +/- Weight: 60 lbs Medical: Up-To Up-To-Date on Vaccinations, microchipped, Spayed Cat Friendly: No Dog Friendly: Yes Kid Friendly: No House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Location: Rhode Island Ginger is a sweet, young Catahoula Leopard mix (maybe black lab) who is looking for her forever home! At just about 60lbs she is the perfect size and loves to crawl in your lap. Ginger has been nothing but a wonderful guest in our home and has learned the routine here quickly. She is house trained and mostly crate trained, sleeps well by herself or with others, and nondestructive when left alone. Ginger has done amazing with all the other dogs in the home, both females and males ranging from 65lbs to 105lbs. Ginger loves toys of all kinds and can stay busy by herself, but she does love a good game of fetch or tug with humans and other dogs. Ginger is very eager to please and is treat/food motivated. She knows basic commands and is well mannered on leash, until that squirrel goes by! She brushes off most triggers in seconds and continues on her way. Ginger loves riding in the car and is very calm when opening the door to get her out. She does a perfect sit in many situations. Ginger does love to bark at all things and is hesitant of strangers. Ginger would do best in a home without children and even though she is dog friendly, she would strive in a home where she can get all of the attention and go on adventures. Ginger will need daily mental stimulation and physical exercise. Ginger does have trust issues with men but quickly comes around with calm and confident interactions and of course, time. Once she opens up Ginger is very loving and will take all the rubs and treats you are willing to give her!
