Story
Meet Leroy! He was born and raised on a farm with his brother, Lincoln. When they were younger, he and his brother would hunt hogs and deer. That is why you may notice that they have some marks and scars. When they are not together, Leroy appears to look for Lincoln, but when they are together Leroy is a lot happier and more confident. Leroy is a sweet boy who loves to give kisses and cuddle. He walks well on a leash, and appears to be potty trained. Come meet Leroy and give this precious boy a chance! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Meet Lincoln! He was born and raised on a farm with his brother, Leroy. When they were younger, he and his brother would hunt hogs and deer. That is why you may notice that they have some marks and scars. Lincoln is a source of comfort for Leroy, who can be nervous without his brother. These two sweet babies are a bonded pair so they would have to be adopted together; However, they are both very well-mannered boys. Lincoln walks well on leash, and appears to be potty trained. Both he and his brother are smart and know sir! Lincoln loves to give kisses and cuddle, sometimes he can get a bit jealous if you give too much attention to his brother, and he will cry. Come meet Lincoln and give both boys a chance! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
This friend has just arrived to us on transport from a high-intake shelter partner! When our friends are new to us, we are often unsure of their full background. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we often are unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
Dog Name: Denali. Breed: Catahoula/Pit mix Sex: Female Age: 3 Weight: 69lbs. Medical needs: Zero! Housebroken: Yes, she alerts at the door. Crate trained: Yes. She goes in without issue and gets a treat. Sleeps quietly and sometimes retreats to it for a nap. Good in the car: Yep. She’d much prefer to be your co-pilot though. She needs a seatbelt Good on a leash: Denali is strong! She is currently walked on a martingale collar. This prevents her neck from being harmed should she decide to pull. Denali is short and squatty, so if she smells or sees something of particular interest, her instinct is to dig in and pull. She is pretty easily redirected, overall she walks pretty well. Energy level: Medium. Denali enjoys a good game of fetch and will also entertain herself with toys or bones. If she’s walked regularly and has time to play, the rest of the time will be spent snoring away. Need a fenced in yard: No but she’d LOVE it. She loves to be outside, so you should plan to spend some time with her on a leash walking, exploring and playing if no fence. Dog Friendly: Yes. Denali is a bit nervous and insecure at first so she requires a slow introduction. In other words, she shouldn’t be forced to interact with any dogs immediately and may require space and time to observe before meeting. She does best with dogs her size or bigger because she does think she should be the CEO. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home: No, she would love to have you all to yourself. Cat friendly: No. Kid Friendly: Yes. If yes, what's the youngest age: She’s had exposure to a range of ages in her previous home and foster home. I have not observed her with any small children but feel comfortable saying 10+ due to her size. Traits that make your foster special: Denali is a total love bug. She just wants alllllll the loving. She will usually plop herself in front of you and put her head in your lap and request some pets or she will plop on you and request them as well. She LOVES to snuggle with you. She is also quite the silly goose as well. Her personality is very fun! Denali was previously adopted but was returned to GRR. Her owner experienced an unexpected medical emergency and was no longer able to care for her. When she first came to her previous foster home she was reserved and nervous. Her tail didn’t move much and though she sought them out for love, it took her about 10 days to fully relax and show us her whole, silly personality. When Denali came to us (her current foster family) she was nothing but love and her true self right off the jump! It was a great transition from one foster family to another. If you can imagine a happy, little hippo, then you get the picture. Denali can be found zooming around the yard, playing ball (she is a ball fanatic!), playing with the resident dogs, taking a sniffari, or lounging around the house just relaxing. As stated she LOVES to be outside and would love to show you her cool jump moves! This big girl has some hops! She’s settled in quite nicely and now it’s time for her take the next big step and find her fur-ever home. If you’re looking for a companion that will motivate you to get outside then reward yourself with a little Netflix and chill, Denali is your girl. Foster’s Location: New Castle, De. Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app) ##1697475##
