Story
Martha’s kitten was adopted Monday and although she was a little fretful at first, her own personality has bloomed in the last couple of days. She is very affectionate and playful (she’s not much more than a kitten herself at approximately a year old). When she first sees me she finds her favorite mouse toy and will bring it over to me. Martha is spayed, up to date on immunizations and microchiped. She also has an amazing purr. If you know of anyone looking for a cat, tell them about this sweetie and fill out an application at https://form.jotform.com/242514774446057

Story
Wolf is a CVHS alumnus who was brought back to us when one of the dogs in the home was too much for this sweet boy. Wolf is a friendly boy who shows his affection through rubbing on your legs. He also enjoys making biscuits, and purring while you pet him. We are unsure how he will do with other felines but with a slow introduction he may be just fine. He does have experience living with canines, and may be okay with a calm, cat-savvy canine in the future, but would not do well with an over-exuberant dog. Wolf has also lived with children and did well.

Story
Big Cally is a CVHS alumni whose owner was unable to care for her due to her own human health issues. She can be timid at first, taking a little time to get used to new people. She lived her life being indoors-only in a quiet home, occasionally wanting to get attention from sitting in her owner`s lap, and likes to sleep on a cozy bed. In her previous home she seemed more interested in playing with pens than toys. In her next home she would love nothing more than a nice bed to look out the window. She has lived with a cat in the past and is doing well with her feline roommates here in our colony rooms. Due to Big Cally`s personality, no dogs or young children please. Due to findings of her having severe arthritis in both knees, she needs an adopter who is willing to work with her weight loss, keep extra weight off, and work with their veterinarian with a long-term management plan for arthritis care. Currently, she is receiving a Solensia injection monthly, which priced out looks to be $60-75 a month, adopter cost. We recommend any potential adopter speak to their veterinarian about this.

Story
Remember our quirky little Trio of two dogs and a cat, found traveling together, and never claimed? They spent some time in a wonderful home, and we learned enough about them that we are all in agreement it wasn`t the right location for them. They are back with us, and we are a little more specific about what they need. A neighborhood, with lots of people walking dogs past the home, is just too over-stimulating for River, and despite management of the environment, and important leash work, she just wasn`t able to relax the way we`d like to see. The dream location for River would be a home with a fenced-in yard, preferably a privacy fence, so she could get plenty of exercise without needing to be walked regularly where she`s seeing other dogs. We also feel she`d do best with someone who is familiar with Shepherd behavior, and will understand her responses to her living arrangement. We are still hopeful the Trio can find the right home together, but we will always do what`s best for them, and because they have different needs, that could mean having River go to one home, and Rain and Reed go to another home together. We are still getting to know Reed, but so far he has been timid. Reed tolerated his feline roommates, but spent most of his time hiding. We gave him his own colony room, but he still did not warm up. UNTIL…we brought his dog friends Rain and River to see him, and he totally changed!! Head butts, purrs, and snuggles are now the norm, and we are keeping Rain in the colony room with him full-time, and River visits regularly from the dog wing. We would love to adopt these three together into a loving home. We don`t know if Reed has had any experience with children, but at this time we feel he would do best in a calm and quiet environment with no young children.

Story
Mulligan is a handsome fellow who was originally found as a stray. He briefly was around canines at his finder`s place and did good with cat-savvy canines. He has been in a colony room with other felines at CVHS; he made friends with everyone! Though he has outdoor experience, he does have Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), so should be an indoor only cat. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, or FIV, is one of several viruses that can affect cats. When veterinarians first discovered FIV, we thought it would make cats sick the same way that HIV (the virus that causes AIDS in people) was making people sick. But it turns out that’s not true. We now know that almost all cats with FIV live normal lifespans, and that they only rarely seem to get sick more often than other cats who don’t have FIV. We used to think we had to euthanize these cats when they tested positive for FIV in shelters, but now we know they can be adopted out to live normal, happy lives. We also know now that it is very unusual for a cat with FIV to pass on FIV to other cats in the same household. This can only happen if the FIV-positive cat is biting other cats.Cats who test positive for FIV tend to have the virus stay in their bodies for the rest of their lives. It can occasionally affect their immune systems and make it more likely that they might get sick, or possibly pass on illness to other cats in their household, although this is uncommon. However, to prevent transmission of the virus, cats with FIV should not have kittens, and they should not live in households where they are biting other cats. If you are adopting a cat who is FIV-positive, you should be aware of their status, and consider having your vet do a simple blood test with other cats in your household to find out their status also. In the unlikely event that your new cat is fighting with and biting the other cats, please contact us right away to discuss returning the FIV-positive cat to the shelter. Your vet may suggest ongoing monitoring of your cat’s health, such as bloodwork or other testing.

Story
Honeysuckle is a sweet, outgoing gal who is seeking her new home. She came to CVHS when her owners were moving, and weren`t able to take her along. She enjoys attention, but on her own terms. She loves to chat and snuggle with the people she trusts. She has lived with felines in the past, and is tolerating the felines in her colony room. Due to Honeysuckle`s personality we feel she would do just fine with a cat-savvy canine, and older children, with a proper introduction.
