Story
Hi, I’m Hobbes and I want to share my story. I was in a home before I was surrendered to Texas CARES. It was my one and only home and I was the star of the house, that is, until my family had a baby. After that, it seems I was set aside. The wonderful people at Texas CARES took me into their rescue but that is not where my story ends. You see, I am a very special boy and have had some pretty big ups and downs. In my foster home, I was having such a time using my litter box and no one could seem to figure out why I was going outside of it. They took me to the vet, where they ran tests and more tests. That wasn’t fun, because I am not a huge fan of going into the carrier (I told foster mom all about it on the ride) but I knew it was for my own good. My foster mom, along with the medical team, tried several different things. My food was changed, my foster mom used extra litter boxes, but I still would go outside the box. There was even a time where I heard talk of euthanasia. I’m not sure what that is but it sure didn’t sound good! I know my foster mom was so frustrated and really wanted to help me, but it was tough. Finally, foster mom and the medical team, along with the vets, started me on some different antibiotics and some medicine to help with my mental state. This seemed to be what was needed for me because I now use the litter box each and every time I need to go! So, you see, it took a little time, but I am finally ready to seek out a forever home. I will have to be on my special food, which helps prevent crystals in my urine, and I may have to be on my mental meds long term, but I take them like a champ. In fact, I don’t even think it’s medicine because it looks and tastes like a chicken treat. I enjoy my prescription food as well! I do get along with dogs and I have met my foster mom's cats but honestly, I’d probably prefer just to have my very own human to myself. I won’t be going up to the adoption center, so if you’d like to meet me and have a chat, my foster family will make arrangements for you to meet me! I really hope you will take a chance on me because I am a really wonderful boy and I am ready to be your best friend!  Medical:  Special Diet - He is now on CD Urinary food both dry and wet. Fluoxetine - Compounded Treat Chews - ordered monthly and delivered to his home. November 5, 2024, 8:53 pm

Story
Love is patient. Love is kind. If you are both of these, then you could eventually have a tremendously loyal kitty. Amy is a little girl, very cute, but extremely wary. When she came to my house she did not leave her hidey spot for the first month. She would let me approach somewhat, but it was clear she wasn’t ready for me to get very close. Somewhere around 6-8 weeks she felt comfortable enough to come over to me and let me pet her a little bit; it would have to be her idea. Now she comes running to me if I sit down on the sofa. She will sit in my lap or climb on me if I am laying down, but she also likes to flop next to me and have her belly petted. Amy is not interested in being carried. She might be a one-person cat. She will run if my adult son, who lives here, tries to get close to her. She’s a little more friendly toward my adult daughter, who comes to visit. She can get close to Amy, but cannot touch her. I think she needs to be with a cat that she knows to help her transition to a new place. She often sleeps and plays with Penny.November 5, 2024, 8:53 pm

Story
Merlin is my name and playing is my game.   I am a super sweet lover but want to rule all the kitties in the house.   I would be great as a single guy or with a non dominate female.   I came to Texas CARES through a vet, my original family found out I have FIV which is really no big deal and the vet did not want me to be sent across the "bridge" so Texas CARES stepped in and will make sure I get the home I deserve.    I am very handsome fellow and love to watch sports and Hallmark.  What can I say - I am very well rounded.    November 5, 2024, 8:53 pm

Story
Offspring of Lizzy, sibling of Archie, Wilma, and Cheese Hello, I'm Snail, a friendly and mellow feline. I'm gentle as a summer breeze and love nothing more than a good cuddle. My sister, Cheese, and I share a special bond. We love to play, nap, and purr together. We're quite the duo, and we promise to fill your home with warmth and affection. I'm not just looking for a home; I'm looking for a family. A family who'll love me and Cheese just as much as we'll love them. Adopting me means adopting Cheese too, and we promise to make your life twice as nice. So, why should you adopt us? Well, we're not just cats. We're companions, confidants, and sources of endless entertainment. Adopt us, and you won't just gain pets, you'll gain family members. December 7, 2024, 10:45 pm
