Well, this is Betty from the Burger Shack!    Betty's a little over a year old. She was in pretty rough shape when found. Now, she's thriving. She will come up to you and meow to get your attention. She's playful and boy, is she food motivated! She LOVES a good Churu treat. Give her one of those and she's sure to be your best friend.    Betty would do just fine in a home with other cats, kids, and even canines. She'd love nothing more than to become the newest member of your furever family!   To apply, visit ahhumanesociety.org or email Halee@ahhumanesociety.org with any questions.  January 6, 2025, 1:43 pm

He came to the AHHS from a cruelty case in Sullivan County. Gandalf came to us following a cruelty case in Sullivan County, TN. Given all he's been through, we do try to give him some grace. He was tried in a home with other cats, but it has been determined that he would prefer to be your one and only. He's very content just lounging around with little activity.   He's a large cat; roughly 15 pounds. He does not enjoy being picked up, likely due to his size and insecurities. He's really a neat fella once he warms up to you. He will gladly come over for pets and love but will walk away when he's had enough. With his age, I couldn't see him being the destructive type as he certainly has not been while in his large cat condo at the humane society. However, I cannot guarantee his behavior once in a home environment.    We do allow what is called a "trial adoption" for adult cats which we believe would be a good option for this fella. This allows you a week or 2 to see exactly how he's going to do in your home before committing to adoption.  Please contact Halee for additional information. halee@ahhumanesociety.org or apply online at ahhumanesociety.org. Chella has gone from a nervous, frightened kitten that was afraid to trust and has blossomed into a more outgoing girl that enjoys playing with humans and other cats. Chella is definitely shy upon first meeting, but she's quick to open up to you. She loves to sit quietly with her person(s) and to play with toys of all kinds. She's very much an observer and prefers a laid-back, easy-going lifestyle. Chella is cat friendly and would do okay in a home with other cats and with dogs as long as they are not too loud and scary. Children would also be okay with Chella, but we would prefer that it be an older child capable of respecting Chella's boundaries and her shy demeanor.  If interested in meeting Chella and seeing how quickly she can grow to love you, email Halee@ahhumanesociety.org or apply at https://ahhumanesociety.org/cat-adoption-application/ .February 5, 2025, 4:59 pm

Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!   Meet Tonka! Tonka is a very special girl. She has a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. What does that mean, you might wonder? Well, this is a condition in which the cerebellum of the brain fails to properly develop. Our cerebellum is responsible for helping us keep our balance, hand-eye coordination, and controls our fine motor skills. Given that Tonka's has not properly developed, this means she is wobbly and uncoordinated. Please don't worry, as she is not in any pain. This is not a painful condition, nor is it contagious to other animals.    Tonka is in a loving foster home that supports her every step of the way, and we are finding that she is a very resilient girl capable of overcoming any obstacles in her way. Though this is an untreatable condition, she is thriving. She is clumsy, yes, but she is expected to live a pretty normal life as long as she is provided a little extra TLC. Things like elevated food bowls, rugs and carpeting to assist with grip and traction, and moving items that she could easily fall from or trip over really help her out.    Tonka is 1.5 years old and has been spayed, vaccinated, combo tested (negative), dewormed, microchipped, and is on monthly flea prevention. She is a very sweet, loving cat that enjoys snuggles and hanging out on the couch with you watching TV.  Although experience with "CH cats" will not be required for adoption, we will be very particular as to which family she goes to. We want to make sure her future family does all the proper research and are committed to and ready for such a special cat.    If interested in learning more, email Halee@ahhumanesociety.org or complete an adoption application on our website at ahhumanesociety.org.  February 5, 2025, 5:22 pm

He was brought to the AHHS when his owner had to move. He was brought in with his adopter sister, Sassy, and is very bonded to her. Their personalities are totally different, but they bring out the absolute best in each other! Shadow is outgoing after given time to adjust to you. He is VERY food/treat motivated, and once you win him over with a Churu treat he is your BFF! He's an intelligent cat. He is also affectionate and quite playful despite being almost eight years old. He and Sassy make the best pair, and we hope to find a family that will love and adopt them together so that they can live out the rest of their days together! Sassy is a senior and deserves a safe, loving home to live out her golden years. Sassy came in with her adopted brother, Shadow, and the two are very bonded to one another. We'd love to see them adopted together so that they don't have to be separated after suffering the stress of being brought to a shelter so late in life. According to Sassy's foster mom, she is the epitome of an old lady and enjoys the simpler things in life. She's most content with napping, birdwatching, and watching television. She is a sweet, loving cat that prefers her naps to be at the foot of your bed, your chest, or on the couch. Her brother brings out the best in her, and they definitely balance each other out.
