Story
Hawkins is a shy, reserved boy. He is a taller, larger cat compared to others - weighing over 15 pounds. He has been raised alongside another cat and I have never even heard a hiss from him. He has not been around dogs, but I am sure that he could learn to warm up to them. He is very gentle in nature and loves affection. He is indoor only, he HATES the outdoors. We are having to rehome both cats due to illness in the home - we have tried to keep them by housing them separately but I would rather them regain their quality of life in a loving home that they can explore, versus selfishly keeping them in our basement.

Story
All AHHS animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate). Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions. Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!   This big, senior boy is Gandalf. He came to the AHHS from a cruelty case in Sullivan County. Gandalf came to us following a cruelty case in Sullivan County, TN. Given all he's been through, we do try to give him some grace. He was tried in a home with other cats, but it has been determined that he would prefer to be your one and only. He's very content just lounging around with little activity.   He's a large cat; roughly 15 pounds. He does not enjoy being picked up, likely due to his size and insecurities. He's really a neat fella once he warms up to you. He will gladly come over for pets and love but will walk away when he's had enough. With his age, I couldn't see him being the destructive type as he certainly has not been while in his large cat condo at the humane society. However, I cannot guarantee his behavior once in a home environment.    We do allow what is called a "trial adoption" for adult cats which we believe would be a good option for this fella. This allows you a week or 2 to see exactly how he's going to do in your home before committing to adoption.  Please contact Halee for additional information. halee@ahhumanesociety.org or apply online at ahhumanesociety.org. He had to make sure our photographer got all the best angles. We just can’t get enough of this cat. He was a stray that showed up to one of our local senior centers begging to be taken in. How were we supposed to turn away a face like that?! Boone is about two years old and weighs around 8 pounds. He’s so full of personality, to know him is to love him!! We think he might be a dog wearing a cat suit. You’ve just got to meet this boy for yourself!! Interested? Apply at ahhumanesociety.org/cat-adoption-application/ or email Halee@ahhumanesociety.org. He’s also hanging out at our facility and stealing hearts if you wish to come meet him. 2101 W. Walnut Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.March 22, 2025, 3:38 pm

Story
Tyler is a gentle soul with a heart as big as his reserved demeanor. This shy and thoughtful feline prefers to observe from a safe distance, taking his time to warm up to new faces and situations. He may initially be a bit standoffish, but underneath his cautious exterior lies a deep well of affection just waiting to be discovered.Tyler enjoys quiet corners and soft, cozy spots where he can curl up and watch the world go by. With patience and gentle encouragement, he reveals his true self: a loving companion who appreciates the calm moments and quiet companionship. He is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, combo tested negative, and neutered!
