This little girl was adopted out by START several years ago. Now, as a senior, Nina is again looking for her forever home. Her “mom” recently passed away and there were no remaining family members to take her in. We welcomed her back as a foster but Nina deserves a family to call her own. She is a beautiful torbie who loves to be held and enjoys a comfortable lap. She has been an only cat for several years but would adapt to companions, given the proper introduction of course. Berkeley and her family were rescued from a cat colony in the area. While we were focusing on reducing the overpopulation via TNR, several little guys showed up being all sweet. All seemed healthy with the exception of showing signs of upper respiratory infections. So these lucky ones will get a chance at a safe indoor life. Born in early June, 2021, Berkley is a mackerel tabby girl with a coat of incredible swirls. She definitely had the toughest reaction to adjusting to “life on the inside”. She needs a quiet place with minimal commotion to ease in her transition to a new home. Like her sister, Beck, once you pick Berkeley up she will sit with you comfortably. It may take a while for her to get to that feeling of trusting you. A companion would definitely do her good in a new environment. Please give this girl a chance and your patience is key. S.T.A.R.T. received notification of several kittens romping around a back yard with their feline mother. It took several days of trapping but one by one the litter was rescued and mom was TNR’d. The kittens came in nervous and hissing, which of course was expected. Born in mid June, 2022, we knew they were young enough to acclimate to humans and life indoors. Melba is a grey and white girl who seems a little on guard. Being an active, fidgety kitten, she is not the holding type! Melba needs time to realize that she is safe with you and having a friend would really help in her acclimation. Melba is vaccinated, altered, FeLV/FIV tested negative and microchipped. Nico is a beautiful black and white tuxedo girl. Born in mid July, 2022, her “half moustache” is only part of her cuteness. She loves to look at you with her soulful eyes and will even talk to you. She is full of life and full of personality. You could say that this little one wants to be your best friend. The perfect companion for those lazy nights on the couch. At first glance, Nico looks like any ordinary cat, but in fact she has something very special about her. Nico is paralyzed. Nico was found in the street, crying out for someone to come to her aid. A young girl picked her up and reached out to S.T.A.R.T. for guidance. We brought Nico in and immediately rushed her to the vet. The heart of a rescuer is strong but seeing any animal in a helpless state can break you. After an exam and x-rays, we received both good news and bad news. The good news was that nothing was broken. The bad news was ………. that nothing was broken. Nothing broken means there is nothing to repair. She most likely has suffered from a ruptured disk which has left her with no mobility or feeling in her back end. You may think that a cat in her condition will never live a full life. All you have to do is meet Nico and you realize just how full of life she is. She loves to play, she loves to eat, and she absolutely loves to be loved! Of course, her maintenance is a little more involved than a regular house cat. Her bladder needs to be expressed 3-4 times daily. A fairly easy task but keeping her on a schedule is key. We are looking to find her a forever home with someone who has experience in paralysis and what Nico’s limitations and capabilities may be. She has truly opened our eyes to what is important in life.
