Story
Jax is a handsome, stocky, brown tabby from Hackensack, NJ. He was living with his mother in the parking garage of a condo building. Permission was given to catch them and see if they could be adopted. Mom turned out to be not very nice at all and was TNR'd. Jax had some fire in him, but was deemed workable since he was still young. Jax is going to be a big boy! He has very large paws and a solid build. He has been coming along nicely. Will still hiss, but can be picked up and held. We think he will eventually become a "snuggle bug". He enjoys playing with foil crinkle balls and plastic springs. Approximate DOB - 05/02/22 Up to date on vaccinations, neutered and FIV/FeLV negative. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. If you live in a parent or guardian's home, they must complete the application. An application does not guarantee an adoption. Our cats and kittens are not adopted on a first come, first served basis, but whom we feel would be the best fit for our cats and kittens. If interested, please e-mail us at Chanceatliferescue@gmail.com or download an application from our website http://www.chanceatlifecatrescue.com/.

Story
Carly is a sweet and sassy brown tabby from Carlstadt, NJ. She was caught up in the mix of a TNR program and almost put back outside because she was "hissy" and scared but we stepped in and brought her into the Chance at Life family to be worked with. Carly is still a little untrusting but curious. She can be picked up and held, just needs a little time to get comfortable. She loves other cats and has become smitten with our boy "Jax" from Hackensack. She just loves to snuggle with him. We think Carly will continue to flourish with love and patience. Approximate DOB - 06/27/22 Up to date on vaccinations, spayed and FIV/FeLV negative. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. Story
Betsy is a white, female with a splotch of gray and a hint of beige on top of her head. Technically, she can be considered a calico. She joined the Chance at Life family on November 1, 2023, after she was found with her deceased mother by a Good Samaritan in Palisades Park. Betsy had a little bit of an upper respiratory infection and an injury to her tail that has been treated. Betsy was adopted in February of 2024 but returned to Chance at Life on July 4th, 2024 because the cat she was living with had a health condition and her dominant personality was a little too much for him when he was not feeling well. The family felt they were better being a single cat home. Betsy is a very spirited young lady who does gets along well with other cats. Quick to purr but also quick to smack, she enjoys being brushed and loves to play. Approximate DOB 07/26/23. Up to date on vaccinations, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative and microchipped You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. If you live in a parent or guardian's home, they must complete the application. Story
Carina is a beautiful Tabico aka Caliby (half Tabby half Calico). She was trapped as a stray in Bogota by another organization & deemed unadoptable so she was going to be TNR’d (Trap, Neuter, Release). We felt she had potential to be a loving pet/family member and decided to give her a Christmas present by taking her into our rescue on December 21, 2023. She is definitely a work in progress but was already letting us handle her (begrudgingly) 😹 after just a few days. After a week she started to purr. It's still going to take time for Carina to gain trust and get fully comfortable. An adult home would be best for her. Other cats in the home are fine. She does not actively play in front of us, but we know that she does play as she takes her toys into her bed with her and likes catnip. Carina is a good eater and enjoys treats. Approximate DOB 12/18/21. Up to date on vaccinations, spayed, FIV/FeLV negative and microchipped. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. If you live in a parent or guardian's home, they must complete the application. An application does not guarantee an adoption. Story
Toulouse is a handsome orange tabby who was trapped on 12/15/23 in Closter as a TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) but showed signs of being adoptable so we decided to give him a chance at a better life. Much like his namesake, he often tries to appear tough. He is known for puffing up and attempting to hiss when trying to show how tough he is although he is fairly laid-back and easygoing. Toulouse does not know how to play yet and does not have very much interest in treats. He does love his wet food though. Approximate DOB 12/31/22. Up to date on vaccinations, neutered, FIV/FeLV negative and microchipped. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. Story
Barnaby is a handsome brown tabby with amber colored eyes from Paterson, NJ. He joined the Chance at Life family on Sunday, January 21, 2024, when Vanessa, our rescue President approached 2 men who were walking with a box that was meowing and taped shut with duct tape. The men claimed their neighbor moved out and the landlord told them to get rid of the cat that was left behind. Of course, Vanessa took the box from them, got in her truck, ripped open the box to see who was inside and out popped Barnaby. He was put into a carrier and taken home. At first Barnaby was very curious and sweet but that changed overnight. Barnaby was screaming, lunging and attacking the next day. He bit through bite gloves and made it difficult to even enter the room. We have no idea what he went through prior. Did the shock wear off? Was he overstimulated? Abused? All we knew was that he was not neutered, scared and angry but we were not giving up on him. We got him to the vet to make sure he was not injured. He behaved like a gentleman and got a clean bill of health. In early March he got neutered and again, behaved like a gentleman at the vet's office. Barnaby has come a long way since January. He can be very sweet, affectionate, playful and even a lap cat, but can still lash out at times but not like he used to. He has a little bit of Jekyll and Hyde in him. He enjoys watching birds and chasing squirrels along the windowsill. His favorite toys are a multi-colored ball and stuffed mouse. Barnaby's scratching preference is a vertical scratcher/tree made of sisal. He prefers dry food over wet and some treats but is not food motivated. He would do best as an only cat in an adult household. Approximate DOB 07/30/22. Up to date with vaccinations, neutered and FIV/FeLV negative. You must be at least 18 years of age to adopt. If you live in a parent or guardian's home, they must complete the application. An application does not guarantee an adoption. Our cats and kittens are not adopted on a first come, first served basis, but whom we feel would be the best fit for our cats and kittens.
