Story
Barnaby is a handsome brown tabby with amber colored eyes from Paterson, NJ. He joined the Chance at Life family on Sunday, January 21, 2024, when Vanessa, our rescue President approached 2 men who were walking with a box that was meowing and taped shut with duct tape. The men claimed their neighbor moved out and the landlord told them to get rid of the cat that was left behind. Of course, Vanessa took the box from them, got in her truck, ripped open the box to see who was inside and out popped Barnaby. He was put into a carrier and taken home.
At first Barnaby was very curious and sweet but that changed overnight. Barnaby was screaming, lunging and attacking the next day. He bit through bite gloves and made it difficult to even enter the room. We have no idea what he went through prior. Did the shock wear off? Was he overstimulated? Abused? All we knew was that he was not neutered, scared and angry but we were not giving up on him. We got him to the vet to make sure he was not injured. He behaved like a gentleman and got a clean bill of health. In early March he got neutered and again, behaved like a gentleman at the vet's office.
Barnaby has come a long way since January. He can be very sweet, affectionate, playful and even a lap cat, but can still lash out at times but not like he used to. He has a little bit of Jekyll and Hyde in him. He enjoys watching birds and chasing squirrels along the windowsill. His favorite toys are a multi-colored ball and stuffed mouse. Barnaby's scratching preference is a vertical scratcher/tree made of sisal. He prefers dry food over wet and some treats but is not food motivated. He would do best as an only cat in an adult household.
Approximate DOB 07/30/22.
