Story
Charm was living outside and came to Heartland very scared and stressed.  Her mouth was in very bad decay so she was also in pain.  Charm was seen by our vet who did a full mouth extraction, relieving her pain and allowing her to focus on the perks of being an indoor kitty. Charm took a couple of months to warm up to her foster mom, but once trust was gained, her sweet and loving personality came through.  She now loves attention and can eat food just fine. Charm is spayed, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV, has been flea and parasite treated and is current on vaccinations.  She did test positive for FIV.  FIV kitties can live a normal, long life as long as they are kept indoors and given medical treatment if early signs of illness are shown.  Their immune system is not as strong so illness needs to be treated early.  FIV kitties can live with non-FIV kitties just fine as long as they are not aggressive, as FIV can be transmitted through a deep bite that draws blood.  FIV kitties do not require any daily meds or special food. Charm can eat normal cat food and is especially drawn to wet food.  She doesn't seem to mind cat friendly dogs.  HHS12989LH    March 8, 2026, 12:42 am

Story
Audrey is a beautiful long-haired white and orange girl that is affectionate and playful on her terms.  Audrey is considered a special needs kitty because of all of her illnesses she has had.  Audrey and her brother started off at Heartland as wee sickly babies in Aug of 2023.    She developed a condition called Stomatitis and Heartland treated her for that but the treatment made her sick after a month.  She also developed a condition on her paws called Pododermatitis or "Pillow Feet".  She was treated with antibiotics for both her mouth and feet and given lots of time to heal.  She no longer has either condition.  Audrey does have chronic gingivitis and must have regular dental care.  She must see a vet every year to monitor this so it doesn't turn back into stomatitis.  She also has excessive keratin grown on her paw pads but the vet has cleared her to be adopted.  That would also need to be monitored during her yearly visits.  Hers foster mom thinks she has a compromised immune system so she is more susceptable to certain illness.  She has recovered well from the stomatitis and pododermatis though which is a good sign.  She can live a long and heathly life with the proper care. The upside is she is a one of a kind kitty that is quite funny, playful and affectionate.  Please consider adopting this wonderful firl who deserves a home of her own. She is up to date on her shots, treated for fleas and parasites, microchipped, tested negative for FIV/FELV and spayed. March 8, 2026, 12:42 am

Story
Hi, I am about 1 ½ years old and have been named Mooie or Moo Moo (because I am marked like a favorite cow of my foster mom. Yes, a cow! Can you believe it!)  Although I have become quite fond of the name and respond to it now because of the affection associated to it.No one really knows my background; I'm not sure I even do. My foster mom believes that I must have had a home at one time and may have been dumped. She found me as a stray and I was not at all interested at that time, of a grubby human touching me. I had to be trapped. Although it took me quite some time, 3 to 4 weeks, to realize that she was a good thing and I was going to have a good place to go from now on, I never hissed or scratched when approached.  At first, it was coming close to her for food, then for a pet, until the day I was all over her for affection. I'm still a little skittish at the unknown, but now I love being loved. I am going to take time to trust a new person and a new environment but, I promise, it will be worth it in the end!  My foster mom really wanted to be a foster failure with me, but as she explained, she couldn’t keep all the fosters or there would be no room in her home for another poor soul in need of help. It’s hard & disappointing for us, but I get it. Here, I’ll find a great FOREVER home.Foster mom says I am very well mannered.  I don’t scratch the furniture, only my big scratching tree. I don’t jump on the counters; I always use the litter box and I don’t scream to go outside. I must admit, when I am hungry, I will let know!  I am independent, usually quietly lounging somewhere for the day. The evenings seem to bring out the affection in me and I prefer to settle in next to you…. sometimes.  I am not sure yet about the dogs.  I don’t go after them, nor they me, or swipe at them. I just am not yet sure I want to share a couch with them.  However, I’m pretty easy going & in time, I’d be fine.Foster mom does not think I’d do well in a home with young kids or lots of activity. But if you want a future snuggle bug just to hang with, I’m your girl. Please remember to allow me time to adjust.  I had a pretty rough start of life, and really hope the rest of it to be forever and one that every kitty deserves.  March 8, 2026, 12:42 am
