Story
Rusty is fun, good-natured, athletic and has a big personality. He adores being the center of his human companion's world and will greet you when you come through the door. Rusty gets your attention with a swat or a love bite on the foot or ankle! He communicates with his mouth, paws and voice. Rusty uses a cardboard scratcher to trim his nails. He takes to chasing the red dot on a laser light, hunts for fuzzy mice and gets a kick out of hiding in a cardboard box. Rusty's favorite things are eating soft food, kitty treats, napping in the sun, looking out the window and drinking from a running faucet. His ideal home is low key and cat savvy with an individual, couple or family with older children. It will take Rusty some time to warm up to other cats, he can be pushy; but once they are buddies, Rusty enjoys playing hide and chase with them. He tolerates dogs but not one with high energy. Rusty is a 2-year-old orange tiger tabby with white and flaunts gold eyes. Friends of Jackson County Animal Shelter Pets (FJCASP) is a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. Story
Maya is a one-of-a-kind kitty girl with a unique story. She was born into a semi feral colony in the middle of winter, at an apartment complex for senior living. Around 9 or 10 weeks old, Miss Maya made the decision to abandon her feral family and life for a chance to live as an indoor cat, so she began seeking out a place to call home. Despite being very fearful and leery of people, she repeatedly tried moving herself into an apartment with a kind hearted senior lady who couldn't bear to turn her back out into the cold and wild. However, for many reasons, Maya couldn't stay at her apartment home long term. That's when Friends came to the rescue to ensure that Maya would find a forever home so she would never have to go back to being on her own again. Once in foster care, Maya has continued to make great strides in learning to trust people and to understand indoor life, and thankfully, she has gone from being shy, scared, and fearful to being much more loving, affectionate, outgoing and playful. She is thriving in foster care, and has come a long way thanks in part to being adopted into a kitty family full of confident kittens who are teaching her how to live life without fear. Maya is still a bit cautious, and probably always will be since it's a survival skill she learned as a baby. It will probably take her a while to learn to fully trust her new family, but earning her trust and love is so worth it! She's absolutely the sweetest and most tenderhearted kitty girl! She adores being brushed, and loves to have her back and tail scratched. She also loves catnip, catnip flavored treats, squeezable treats, and a good bit of people food too! She likes kitty toys, cardboard boxes and scratchers, Laser lights, tunnels, and anything she can hide in! Maya really does best being around kind and confident kittens, and she is particularly close to her foster friends Jack and Tess. Maya has also been fostered in a home with large, friendly dogs, and she gets along fine with all of them, but it took time for her to trust that they wouldn't hurt her. Maya needs a special home that is calmer, and has predictable routines. Her family will need to be understanding of her personality, and of the fact that she will need a lot of patience and positive reinforcement and encouragement for her to continue to become the best kitty ever. She also needs her family to understand that she is still a bit scared of a few things, like loud noises, chaos, sudden movements, and being caught, chased, grabbed or locked up. She does not like for people to try and chase her or catch her, however, she will willingly come to you if she trusts you and you can patiently wait for her to make the first moves. Maya is a solid black Domestic Shorthair and as of January 2025 she is 11 months old.
