Story
Loveable Orange is 5 years old and looking for love. He has a lot of conditions for his care so the chance of finding him the right home is slim, but we have to try. He is just too sweet to be living in a cage. He deserves to be a housecat. We will be lucky if we can just find a homeowner who lives nearby and isn't going to panic if cat urine happens outside the box. Cat spraying is something that can be resolved with patience. That said, frequent vet visits may be required to rule out health issues with any cat who urinates outside the box. It's more work, but we can promise you Orange is worth it. He's exceptionally loving.
Orange had been a gentle roommate to our 20-year-old resident cats but had to move into a cage because he started spraying when some of the younger cats picked on him. He's content to spend most of the day and night in a cage, but we don't like to see him living his life in there and not getting the pets and lap-time he deserves. [UPDATE: he's getting out of the cage more often and enjoying the "first shift" and "last shift" in the big yard with his best feline friend, Boots. His situation is no longer desperate. He could live out the rest of his life here and be happy. We still want to consider a better situation, but he's got a pretty good life now and he and Boots are so bonded, we'd hate to separate them.]
We named this cutie "Orange Chicken", because he isn't very brave. He runs from confrontation and cries like he's being murdered at the slightest threat of aggression. Because he's so confrontation-averse, we have to force him to go out in the yard to stretch his legs and we have to remove most of the other cats. Thankfully he has a few feline friends he isn't afraid of and he likes the dogs. Did we mention he's a BIG chicken? At 14lbs, he could stand to be more bold, but it isn't his nature. He is a gentle soul.
Orange likes the company of gentle cats but that doesn't mean he won't spray around them. He will not like losing his home and his friendships with the dogs and passive cats he's grown to love only to find himself in a situation where he still feels threatened by other cats. We won't do that to him. He will have to decide if a new home is the right home for him and we have to know he will be returned to us if he exhibits stressed out behavior.
Orange loves adult people. If we look at him, he start purring loudly in anticipation of pets. While he loves being around people, he's afraid of kids and loud people/noises.
Requirements for his health:
3 Luckydog-approved raw meals per day
detoxification supplements added to each meal
raw meaty bones (fed with supervision 3-7 times/wk) to keep his teeth clean
lots of love
very clean house with no clutter (pee is hard to find and clean when there is clutter)
fragrance-free environment (any chemicals like bleach should also be avoided)
daily brushing
Special care at meal times. We think he has megaesophagus, but he's been doing well with treatment.
He got very sick after being vaccinated, so he cannot be vaccinated again. He will have to remain on our immune-supportive diet and supplements to help ensure a healthy life without further vaccination. Because his health is at risk, he will be placed as a long-term foster or co-owned kitty so we can be sure his health insurance remains in effect and he gets the care he needs for life. We need to run this by his insurance to make sure we do everything by the book since he has existing conditoins which woulld not be covered by a new policy.
If you were planning to raise a cat holistically, and you already live fragrance-free, you would likely be able to add him to your life without much trouble. We realize meeting his conditions is a lot to ask of any adopter so he will likely be with us for life. We just want to put it out there in case the perfect situation arises and it makes sense to move him.
We know it is a long shot but we wanted to give Orange a chance to have more attention.
Thanks for rescuing!
