Story
Meet Ashton! Ashton is a huge goofy boy just looking for his perfect forever family to go on adventures with and get all the love and snuggles! Ashton was found abandoned on a rural road near a minor highway with a female mastiff, presumed breeding partner. He was unclaimed at the local shelter for over two months before being scooped up into rescue... we can't believe he never got any attention in the shelter! He arrived in rescue the first week of September. Ashton is a sweet middle-aged gentleman with plenty of energy, spunkiness and booty wiggles! He is a curious boy and loves to sniff and explore everything on his walks. He enjoys the car, he is up for any kind of rural hike or public event, and loves snuggles on the couch! Ashton is an incredibly balanced boy and is easy-going with whatever his foster family decides to do! Ashton walks well on leash on the transitional slip leash around his nose. He can pull on leash if he doesn't have a strong handler, so he is looking for a confident adopter that won't let him push them around. Once he realized that he can't push his weight around, he is very attentive and engaged! He currently lives rural and walks on a flexi/martingale, but walks on his slip lead for regular in-town trips. Ashton arrived at the shelter with another dog that he enjoyed playing with a big bouncy play style. He is currently being fostered with 3 male dogs and does well with them. He has a respectful passive introduction, and walks well with them... even doing some very big zoomies in the field beside his foster home! Ashton mostly ignores other dogs on walks, and hasn't cared about dogs barking at him, or passing through a busy dog festival. Ashton hasn't been officially tested with cats, however he does have a strong prey drive for our chickens and had a very strong drive to the bunnies at the shelters, and likely will not do well in a home with cats or small animals. He is good at ignoring other dogs on walks and hasn't been too focused on squirrels. Ashton is making progress ignoring the chickens in their run, and can come with his foster mom to let them out to free-range and is ok walking away from them, but does want to run at them if they are free-ranging near the house when he goes for walks. Ashton can be pushy if he can get away with it, and would do best with a confident adopter familiar with power breeds. While he is good with strangers, he can jump up and push his weight around if he can get away it. With confident people who don't put up with his rambunctious behaviour, Ashton is affectionate, charming, focused and goofy! He loves playing tug and he loves getting treats for doing tricks! He is a smart boy and learning his marker commands quickly. We can't wait to learn more about him! ASHTON SUMMARY: 6yo (m) Cane Corso ~99lbs -Good with dogs, passive/neutral -Untested with cats, likely not good -Prey drive for chickens -Untested with kids, likely good* -Excellent with strangers, loves all people -Low/medium energy, up for adventures, chills at home -Good in crate -Good in car -Housetrained -Good food drive, enjoys training -OK leash skills, walks well on a transitional slip leash, but will pull on a flat collar if he can get away with it -Lives to sniff! Mostly only pulls on leash to sniff things and pee on things, neutral passing bikes, cars, squirrels and other dogs. -Good for manipulations, ear cleanings, etc. -Non-vocal, only barks when he hears the coyotes. -Very affectionate, loves to weave through legs for bum rubs, likes to lean on his people! *Ashton tries so hard to be a gentle giant, however he is huge and a bit clumsy, so he may accidentally knock over small kids. He has been known to step on feet, accidentally pinch hands between him and furniture, and lean on his people/bump into tables causing objects to fall. When he came into rescue he would jump up and be grabby about taking treats, but now keeps 4 on the floor and takes treats gently. His new family will need to keep up with these expectations for him to keep being the best version of himself! Ashton was taken in by our local Animal Services after being found abandoned on a rural road with a female mastiff about the same age. He sat in the shelter without any interest for over 2 months before being pulled into rescue – we’re so happy we could get him into a home environment while he waits for his forever home! Ashton is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed and has tested negative for tick/mosquito borne illnesses. Adoption Inquiries: molsonsfosterfriends@gmail.com

Story
Meet Brando! He is a 4-year-old Mastiff mix who is certainly unaware of his 40kg size! Brando is a curious and inquisitive boy who loves to explore his environment and everything in it. He also loves to be a couch potato on rainy days... or any day. Don’t let Brando’s size fool you, he can be the biggest couch potato there is. While he does love going out and exploring, he is just as happy to lounge around on the couch with his people. Movie night? Brando is in!Brando is always curious of his surroundings. He loves going for sniff-walks and just taking in the scents around him. He also loves a good view.Because Brando is unaware of just how big he is, a home with no children or older children would be best suited for this big boy.Brando has just had entropion surgery on both of his eyes, but that is not slowing him down one bit. Even though Brando is still recovering from surgery, he is looking for his forever home! If you are interested in our boy, please contact Toronto Animal Services West Region at (416) 338-PAWS (7297) between 10:30AM - 6:30PM for more information about Brando!

Story
Available for Adoption! Cookie was pulled from a shelter in mid-March, where she found herself at risk due to overcrowding. With her being a black dog and high energy/dog reactive, she didn’t have a fighting chance where she was. We are so grateful a wonderful woman came forward to foster her, and offered to take her into her board and train facility, to work on her manners and to get her prepared for being a family dog! Cookie has shown how resilient she is, and is proving every single day that she is so deserving of this second chance! Name: Cookie Crunch Location of dog: Minden, Ontario Breed: Cane Corso / Bully mix Weight: 60lbs Gender: Female Spayed/Neutered: Yes Age: 1.5 years Energy Level: Medium to High Medical (shots etc): UTD Microchipped: Yes Good with dogs: Selective, could do well with a larger balanced dog who won’t challenge her. Good with cats: No, prey drive is far too high Good with kids: Older kids (14+ recommended), just due to size and lack of manners Good with strangers: Yes, loves everyone. Guarding issues: None at all, foster can take high valu items from her without an issue. House Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes, love’s her Crate. Destructive: She is still very puppy like and currently crated or tethered when unattended, but not destructive with toys in her kennel. Leash skills: Good, She was a huge puller with zero leash Manners and has made tremendous progress with her “loose leash” walking and heeling. Okay with manipulations: Yes Known commands: Sit, Down, come, Focus, Place, out, wait and to walk on a loose leash – she is currently doing very well with stay and heel. Behavior Issues: She would do best as an only pet or possibly with a larger balanced dog, who’s not going to challenge her. Cookie would need to be muzzled initially when around new dogs as her excitement can get the best of her. She can be reactive towards other dogs, at fences and on leash, but since being with her foster, she has seen very minimal of this behaviour at the kennel; as long as her mental and physical needs are met, she is very easily redirected. She Could use a bit more work with her reactivity in a public setting. Cookie is highly food/toy motivated which certainly aids in the training. Would do best in a rural or rural like setting. Would be a great sports dog, LOVES dock diving, can do air retrieve and distance jump very well. Medical issues: None Other Observations: From Cookies Foster: This loveable firecracker is the life of the party, no matter what time of the day she will keep her humans and even herself entertained. Shes a smart cookie who now knows sit, down, come, focus, place, wait, out, crate, and to walk on a loose leash. We are currently doing well with stay, and heeling. Cookie would do best with someone who can keep her on a consistent routine and can continue working on her training. She is crate trained and does love it, she is happy staying in it when the focus can’t be on her. She gets a frozen bone or frozen stuffed Kong during the day and always has a nylabone to chew on. I wouldn’t recommend her having unattended free range just quite yet, rules and boundaries will be essential to cookie thriving in a home setting. Cookie has done exceptionally well at board and train and is consistently exceeding my expectations. Shes quick to learn and thoroughly enjoys her training sessions. Cookie is an amazing girl who I promise, will make you laugh daily. She LOVES to play, and she has recently caught on to bringing her ball back to you for another toss. She also loves to play tug, and is doing great with releasing on command. But if you want to pull up a chair she’s happy to entertain herself as well! A typical day for cookie at board and train is we hike though the property trails at least once a day for about 30min where we practice loose leash walking, then we do about 10min of training/brain exercises after. We almost always play some soccer every day in the yard practicing some obedience while playing. Cookie gets to practice in dock diving a few times a week and is thoroughly enjoying it. She has competed in NADD and has a distance jump of 18.6’. And has 2 out of 5 points towards her Senior Title. Before bed she loves to cuddle, you will receive lots of face kisses while she snorts away lol If you’re looking for a playful, loving, smart, loyal, athletic dog this is your girl! Previously from Shelter: Cookie Crunch radiates a contagious joy that brightens even the gloomiest of days. She was picked up as a stray and never claimed, and now is needed out of the stressful shelter environment. For reasons known only to her, she is not particularly fond of other dogs. While she may not be the life of the dog park party, she compensates with an unparalleled loyalty to her human pack. She absolutely melts into you when you show her the slightest bit of attention, and will lean on you with her full body weight while covering you in kisses to show you just how much she appreciates it!
