Story
This big boy is Boris! All 34lbs of him at 3 months. He's a Cane Corso mix and certainly looks it with his big head, big paws and all that skin. Boris is very athletic, running and playing as much as he can get away with and can be a bit overwhelming to some dogs who don't like puppies giving lavish kisses. Not quite house trained but has mastered the dog door. He loves attention from humans and will snuggle any time you want with the sweetest face that melts in your hands when you snuggle him. Boris will mature large and his new family needs to be familiar with his breed to be sure he gets all the training. Story
Age: 1Weight: 87#Dogs? Possibly! I made dog friends in my previous home.Cats? Possibly! I lived with a cat in my previous home and did great!Kids? Possibly! Older kids preferred since I can be timid at first. If interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website by following https://www.ark-valley.org/adoption-matchmaker-application/. We recommend calling the shelter at 719-395-2737 after you submit your application to ensure that we have received it. You can also give us a call if you have any questions or would like to learn more about a specific animal. Walk-ins are welcome during our open hours Monday-Saturday 12-5pm, although an adoptable animal may be in a foster home instead of at the shelter, so we also recommend calling us prior to driving to the shelter to confirm the pet`s current location. If you prefer emailing instead, you can reach our staff at to info@ark-valley.org, however, time sensitive matters would be addressed quicker via phone.Note: We do not DNA test our animals to determine breeds. The listed breed(s) are either an educated guess from staff based on physical characteristics, or from information given by their previous home.

Story
This beautiful, soulful girl is Gretta—a resilient and loving Cane Corso mix who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas. While she came in underweight, she’s gaining strength every day and blossoming into the happy, healthy pup she was meant to be. Gretta adores having one-on-one attention from her humans. She's a total doll—gentle, affectionate, and always wagging her little nubby tail. Gretta doesn't bat an eye at the resident feline, making her a great candidate for a multi-pet household. Whether she’s lounging quietly or leaning in for some well-earned cuddles, Gretta will fill your home with loyalty, love, and tail-wagging joy. Gretta’s forever family will be lucky to have her—could that be yours? Gretta was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2384078##
