Story
Meet Stormy, the Cane Corso! This big girl has a sweet, endearing personality. Staff have observed that she is calm in her kennel as well as easy to leash up and handle on walks. She has met other dogs and has been social and solicits play. A home with another dog is likely a fit but a little meet and greet at the Shelter may be best prior to adoption. One of Stormy’s favorite activities in her previous home was going for walks on the beach. Stormy has a history of living with kitties and may do well in a home with a dog-savvy cat provided there is a slow, thoughtful introduction. She also already knows “sit” and would love to continue learning life skills and manners with her guardians through positive reinforcement based training. She has done well riding in the car and is ready to be your passenger princess! Stormy does have a heart condition that will require lifetime medication, regular vet care, and a mellow, low-stress lifestyle. If you`re willing and able to support her special needs, you`ll find that her heart still has a LOT of love to give!

Story
I adopted Stormy from a breeder in Southern California (MyK9life). She is AKC certified as a full bred Cane Corse and is 16 months old. Stormy is a very sweet girl, but needs a lot of attention and a lot of room to run. She has a lot of energy and has separation anxiety. She would be ideal for someone who is athletic and likes to run or hike. She has a mild heart murmur and takes medications daily. This doesn't effect her demeanor and should not effect her longevity. Many dogs live a normal healthy life regardless of this condition. I can not keep up with her and my home is too small for the energy she needs to release. I hope to find the right fit and home for her. She deserves a family or individual that can provide this to her.

Story
Gus Gus is a sweet, shy Cane Corso puppy who’s still learning about the big world around him. Playful and curious, he’s eager to explore but needs a patient owner who can help him build his confidence. Gus Gus is very food-motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding—he’s always ready to learn when treats are involved! That being said Cane Corsos are a powerful, intelligent, and loyal breed that requires experienced handling and training. Due to their size, strength, and protective instincts, Cane Corsos are not ideal for first-time dog owners. They thrive in homes where they receive consistent training, early socialization, and a clear understanding of boundaries. Though he’s still a bit timid, Gus Gus has a playful spirit and will thrive with socialization and positive experiences. He’s looking for someone who understands that he’s a work in progress and can give him the time, patience, and love he needs to grow into a confident adult dog. Gus Gus would do best in a home where he can receive consistent training, plenty of socialization, and lots of love. He’ll need someone who is patient with his shyness and willing to put in the time to help him feel secure. With guidance, he’ll become a loyal and loving companion.

Story
Meet Kahu! This gentle giant came to the Shelter as a stray and in some serious need of a confidence building. A wonderful team of foster parents stepped up to help this girl gather real world experience (aka hanging out in a home and learning how to dog). She is currently in a foster home with a family. She is still shy but has come SO FAR since coming into the Shelter. Kahu would thrive in a home with a dog savvy adopter, a fenced in yard and a social, confident resident dog. She is mastering house training thanks to her foster parent and access to a yard. She goes for daily walks and has even befriended some other dogs. Although she has not necessarily played - she is enjoying sharing trails along with the other pups. There is a dog-savvy rockstar of a child in her foster home who Kahu enjoys going on walks with. Kahu is looking to continue blossoming in an adoptive home. Could that be with you? Come schedule a meet and greet with her at the Shelter today. From 10/5 through 10/31, we are having a “Spooky Low Adoption Fees” promotion. All cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies will have a reduced adoption fee of $31, while small animals will have a fee of $13. No tricks, all treats!Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm
