Story
Luna is the rescues longest resident. As a young puppy Luna was sent to a board n train where harsh methods were used and her trust in humans was completely destroyed. She was flown down to us from a shelter in San Jose in the hopes we could work with her and get her to the point of being able to safely be adopted out. Luna has definitely been a labor of love but she is ready for a home of her own now. She has perfect house manners and is completely house broken. She walks beautifully on a leash and participates in our pack walks where she solicits love and attention from everyone. On the homefront she can be protective but she is a corso, and this is to be expected. She’s been fostered with both dogs and cats and with proper introductions would easily be able to live with other pets. She’s never had an altercation with any animal. She really needs a home with someone who understands the breed and loves cuddling with their pup as she’s a huge cuddler.

Story
Rene was wandering around the block for several weeks, until he was given the opportunity to enter the home of one of the rescuers. He has been a very protective, loving dog, and from the first moment he was always grateful. He has gained weight and is ready for his new home. He loves to get close to the fence to be petted by neighbors. He is good with cats, although because of his size we do not leave him unsupervised when he is with them, and he lives with most females. He doesn't like to have another male around, he is the alpha and everyone knows it, but with people, he is the biggest baby of them all. He loves treats, lots of love and affection, going for walks and playing with balls and rubber toys. The $350.00 adoption fee covers the following: Transport to San Diego, CA. Spay/Neuter. All vaccines up to date. Deworming (puppies 2 sets). Flea medication up to date. Tick control up to date. Microchip. Microchip registration to new owner paid for. Collar. Temporary leash. The adoption fee does not include transportation to North of San Diego

Story
Duke is in many ways a gentle giant. We received Duke from some friends who discovered him as a stray but couldn't keep him. We took Duke because he needed a home & felt we could give him a good one (he had a bit of a rough go of it in his 2 years of life with multiple owners, including one who mistreated him and ultimately discarded him. We love him to pieces! However, unfortunately, we have found that we are simply not experienced enough dog owners to provide necessary space and attention needed by a 2YO, 100-lb. dog of this breed (i.e., a working dog who needs a lot more activity than we can provide). We also have a 12-mo old in our home (and a 2-yr old who visits a lot). The girls love Duke and he loves them; allowing them to poke & prod & just looks back with love! Our concern is simply his sheer size, and that, should an unintentional mishap happen, they could get hurt. Duke gets along well with other dogs, but we also have an 8YO Maltipoo who doesn't like Duke!

She was a family friends dog and they were looking to rehome her and we tried to keep her but she had some health issues that they did not inform us of and when we tried to give her back they said they were just going to take her to a shelter or have her euthanized. She’s about 5 years old, is the sweetest dog you could ever meet. She’s good with other dogs, cats, kids and people. She is good in public and good on a leash. The only reason we can’t keep her is because of her medical needs

Story
How this pet arrived: Cleo was brought in by a community member on July 24, 2024 Why Cleo is the one for you:Meet Cleo, a sweet and shy girl who arrived as a stray, bringing with her a bit of mystery! While her past is unknown, she's gradually feeling better being around people, especially when yummy treats are involved. Cleo appreciates a low-key environment, so she's looking for an adult-only home where she can take her time adjusting. She's done well with dogs and is respectful, but a meet and greet is essential if you have a dog already. Cleo needs an enclosed yard for bathroom breaks and a comfortable space to relax before exploring the outside world. While she may not be the dog to take to festivals and farmers markets, with patience and TLC, we're hoping that she will become a wonderful companion. Plus, we'll send her home with a leash, collar and crate, and you'll have the opportunity to speak with one of our trainers to help set her up for success! If you're interested in giving this adorable pup the loving home she deserves, bring the household down to meet Cleo! Message for details:This pet is available for adoption in a foster home. To adopt them, please email us at adoptoceanside@sdhumane.org and provide a good callback number. Primary Color: Tan Weight: 98.6 Age: 5yrs 4mths 3wks

Story
Your Gentle Giant Looking for Love! Hello there, I'm Hippo, a 5-year-old Bull Mastiff mix, a big boy at 87 lbs, and neutered. I was pulled from the Riverside shelter by TAP and I am so grateful for that! I have picked up bathroom manners, working on leash manners. I have separation  anxiety and current medications to help with separation anxiety include Trazodone (~$7.00), Gabapentin (~$13.00), Acepromazine as needed (~$25.00), and Prozac (~$5.00). Monthly cost depending on where purchased and market value.  I may look imposing at first glance, but once you get to know me, you'll see I'm the sweetest and most loveable companion you could ever ask for. I love affection, and snuggling up next to my humans is one of my favorite pastimes. I'm generally friendly with other dogs, but I might need a slow introduction to make sure we're all on the same page. When I'm inside the house, I sometimes get a bit anxious and bark at people passing by, but don't worry – once we're outside, I'll mostly be an observer, calmly taking in the world around me. I can show some leash reactivity though. With some patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement training, I'm sure I can overcome this behavior. I adore outdoor adventures and walks, but I can get a little distracted if there's too much going on around me. I find night walks with minimal distractions to be the best for me. That way, I can focus on our quality time together without getting overwhelmed by everything happening around us. One of my quirks is that I like to playfully bite ankles and wrists when I want to wake you up or just engage in some playtime. I promise it's all in good fun! But for this reason, a family with older kids or adults might be a better fit for me. I would absolutely love a fun-loving home with a yard! Having a safe and secure place to play and explore would make me one happy pup! I'm quite adaptable, so whether you lead an active lifestyle or prefer a more laid-back approach, I'll fit right in. Just as long as I get plenty of love and attention, I'll be content. So, are you ready to open your heart and home to a gentle giant like me? I guarantee that with a little understanding, patience, and love, I'll be the most loyal and loving companion you could ever wish for. Let's embark on this incredible journey together, creating unforgettable memories and forging an unbreakable bond. ##1733826##

Leo is a gorgeous neapolitan mastiff.  His ideal home would be a home with someone who knows the breed and can set boundaries for him to thrive. He has the potential to do well with other dogs as long as the other dogs have good temperament. He was fostered with kids who were 12 years of age and he did good with them. Come meet sweet Leo if you are looking for a gorgeous large boy. We set up meet & greet appointments, do a home visit or send them the address for some meet & greet locations, paperwork and suddenly they said they are not ready or spouse is not ready, etc. These fur kids have a very hard day the day of their appointment. Due to travelling we hold their food, so they won't get car sick. We bath them, some of them are schedule for grooming as you know it is stressful for them; then they have to travel with us picking up other rescued fur kids, and so on, it is a very stressful hard day for them for people to just cancel at last minute or not show up or do show up and just say they are not ready. Our time as well as your time is valuable. Please don't waste valuable time that is so precious for a rescued pet. Every single wasted time is a time that an animal will die because we didn't get to them on time to help them. In addition, of wasting gas and grooming fees which are paid by volunteers. Please take the time to put your shoes in the shoes of the volunteer and most of it to put your shoes on our rescued fur kids!! Please take a minute to tell yourself if you are ready to adopt and for this commitment. LIVE!! LOVE!! LAUGH!! ADOPT A RESCUED HOMELESS PET AND SAVE A LIFE!! We look forward meeting you 🐾🐾🙏❤🐕🐕🐕
