Story
A little wine, anyone? Meet Claret, a beautiful 6 month old(as of April 2024) female calico. Claret was rescued by a Good Samaritan when she was found with her mom and siblings. The Good  Samaritan could not keep them, but graciously took care of them for a couple of weeks and then they transferred into care. Claret is the only girl in the bunch and holds her own with all these brothers. She is a calico and has the personality to match, which is to say she is very social, curious, playful, talkative, and loving, She is a lap cat, and  loves to play with the spring toys, explore, and follow you around the house - but is not clingy. Claret enjoys a little "me" time from time to time. Her perfect home would be a home with medium activity with kids over the age of 10 with folks who are home mist of the day or a cat friend to play with. She is  spayed, had her FVRCP and rabies vaccines, tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. No need to re-regoster every year - we've done it for you.. Please email us if you are interested at GoodMews22@aol.com. Cheers!November 4, 2024, 11:34 am

Story
Rescued from a flooded shelter in Asheville, Swannanoa and her 7 beautiful kittens are ready to flood your hearts with love :). They are all super sweet and playful and love soaking up all the love and attention! They will be ready to go home once they are spayed/neutered, but we are accepting applications for them in advance. At the time you are seeing this post, this cat is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application if you are interested in any of our animals. The application can be found at https://greendogsunleashed.org. If you send an inquiry to ask if the cat is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: We will email you if additional information is needed, so please keep an eye on your inbox and spam folders. */*/* Young kittens will receive age-appropriate vaccines and will be spayed/neutered before adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional boosters and a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing, and healthcare are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. Please note you must submit an application, be approved, and submit a refundable hold deposit before a meet and greet will be scheduled. You can fill out an application here: https://greendogsunleashed.org/adopt While we do allow out-of-state adoptions, the adopter must be able to travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, and meet in person at an agreed-upon time to take their cat home. GDU does ask for a minimum adoption donation of $125.00 for cats. This minimum donation does not cover all expenses as we are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum donation includes age-appropriate vaccines and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound and is unable to undergo surgery. This minimum donation does not even begin to cover each animal's expenses while in rescue, but does go directly towards vet care for our rescue animals. ##2198395##

Story
Lavender is a 4 year old Tortoishell. Her birthday is April 26th, 2020. She is a sweet girl that needs a quiet mellow home as she gets stressed in high volume situations. She does NOT do good with young kids/babies as to why i am rehoming. She does get aggressive with my 11 month old daughter. She also has asthma and is on prednisone daily for this and is not a negotiable. She has never been around dogs but has been around cats. she does not get aggressive with them but if its a kitten she does get stressed because she is more laid back and gets irritated with the constant rough housing. She is litter box trained and spayed and uptodate on her vaccines. She does AMAZING at the vet. She is a clingy girl when she finds her person. She often follows me to the bathroom just to watch me. and she LOVES her wet food.

These pups are in Culpeper, Virginia too!

Story
UPDATE: 3.3.24 Fisher was a bit of a loner who now has been seeking out more affection. He will greet you at the door. Fisher was once bonded with 2 friends, but isn't anymore and can be adopted by himself. He is a sweetheart that at times struggles with self-esteem. He has been waiting on his forever home since he was an 8 week old kitten, found dumped in a trash heap with his siblings (all adopted now) at a county dump. Please help him find a home. BFFs Fisher, Gar"Bonzo," & Watson - A Tale of 3 FriendsEvery week we get many requests for Fisher, an orange tabby that came to us with his 5 siblings last summer. Fisher and his family were dumped at the dump and ended up at a high kill shelter – a double whammy. Forgotten Felines pulled Fisher and his siblings and all were adopted, except Fisher. “So…if you are getting a lot of calls for Fisher, what’s the problem?” you ask. Well…Fisher has always been a bit of a loner and always sat apart from his siblings. He never wanted to play with them, he seemed to be a thinker type kinda guy, quiet. He never seemed to have any self esteem or real identity.Last summer we got in an entire family of orange cats that set up “house” in an office parking lot, right on the side of I-29 – remember? Gar”Bonzo” was the dad of that litter. Bonzo is a large orange tabby with white paws with an easy-going personality, though he didn’t come to us that way, he is TOTALLY a smooshie-guy now.Bonzo took an interest in Fisher and cleaned him, slept with him, and even played with toys with him. Keep in mind, Bonzo never even knew what a toy was…but he did this for Fisher. He seemed to know what Fisher needed and saw the emptiness in him…and filled it. Bonzo let Fisher know that he was okay and everything was okay. He mentored him in a way. This big ol’ cat from the streets took Fisher under his wing and became a big part of Fisher’s life. “Okay then, so adopt them together.”Last summer I received a call from the high kill shelter to pull some cats bc they would be euthanized. We took in the cats and when I asked if there were any more that needed out, the reply was, “We have one, but he will be put down bc he is feral.” I said I would take him. (Lots of times cats are not feral, just terrified from being in a big, loud, scary shelter, wondering what their fate will be.) I was told, “No, you don’t want him. He really is feral. We will put him down.” “No I want him.” I replied. Thinking, even a barn home is better than death.Watson came to us the following day, a day before he was slated for death. This big gray and white guy just stayed in his carrier in the crate and I barely saw him for the first month he was with us. He came out of his carrier at night to eat and that was about it. Sometimes when I would come into the room late at night, I would see him lounging on top of his carrier and he would quickly run inside again, escaping interaction with me. I never heard a growl or a hiss, ever. Hmmm…I thought, feral, huh? After Watson settled in, he was fully vetted and the door was opened on his crate. He could now come out and meet everyone he had been looking at for awhile, or stay in his crate if he chose. The decision was his. He came out and within a week or so, became best buds with Bonzo – after all, they had a lot in common. These are 2 guys that most would’ve given up on and dismissed as unfriendly cats, without taking the time to get to know them. Soon, Watson began cleaning and grooming little Fisher, too, eating with him, sleeping with him, and bonding with him.Now the world seemed to shine down on these three friends and all was happy and good, but they still need to complete their story. This is where you come in.These 3 friends are not traditional lap cats. Bonzo and Watson can be pet but do not like to be picked up – that’s okay. They often look out the French doors from the playroom and let me know when I am late to give them their canned food breakfast. They rub up against my legs when I come into the room. They can be pet and love affection. They are sweet cats who deserved to live. Once in a quiet home, they will most-likely bloom with a person they can trust. We are introducing these 3 guys, who have been through so much, to be part of a family. A family that is loving and understanding and patient and lets them adapt into their new home with love and patience. And so….I introduce to you….Gar”Bonzo” and Watson and Fisher. Three friends together. All fully vetted and microchipped, looking to add another chapter to their success story. (A deep discount will apply when adopting.)Please share with friends and family! GoodMews22@aol.comNovember 4, 2024, 11:34 am

Story
Meet Carla and Marla (4 year old sisters) and mom, Darla (5 years old) This bonded tabby family have had a rough start to life.Carla and Marla were found in early December 2020 living in a sewer on a busy Culpeper street with their mom, Darla Mae and were brought into care. Unbelievably, they have not found their forever home yet and have been with us the longest out of any of the cats we have in foster care. Their foster family has a child that is allergic, but out of respect and care for this little family, they have made the difficult decision to care for them until they can find their forever home. This family is a Violet family, as in the term a " shrinking Violet." "Violets," are a very special group of cats. These kitties have been in foster homes for maybe a year or more, still hoping for their future mommy or daddy to find them. Their stories are similar,  they have all been through Hell on the streets ~ orphaned, abandoned by a former owner, left to fend for themselves, often sick or hungry. People passing them by, but no one helping.  These precious, frightened, and vulnerable souls usually blossom once in a quiet, indoor home, with either no children or older children. They are all spayed or neutered, are up to date on rabies and distemper vaccines, and tested negative for feline leukemia, and are microchipped. The adoption fee is $25 and may be waived if you have adopted from us previously or if there are multiple bonded cats, as in Carla, Marla, and Darla.. Carla and Darla probably rate a 4-5 on the Violet social scale. They are playful once they are alone, but are couch potatoes with Darla when people are around. Carla is the more social and will come to sniff their foster mom's hand amd everyone loves people watching, as well as a sunny window with a bird feeder (who doesn't, right?) No one is aggressive. Everyone is good with furniture and good in the litter box, as well, and can be pet when eating.Carla, Marla, and Darla will need a quiet, low activity home together with kids 12 years old or older or no children at all. They are completely vetted and have been dewormed, spayed, have had 3 FVRCP vaccines, a rabies vaccine, and are tested negative for FIV, and feline leukemia. They are microchipped with a lifetime registration, meaning you will not have to pay every year to reregister. Interested in these rhyming beauties? Please email us at GoodMews22@aol.com.For more information on Violets, please go to: https://www.forgottenfelinesculpeper.org/violets. November 4, 2024, 11:34 am

Story
Meet Hickory, a handsome white and gray, short-haired 2 year old. He came to us with his mom, Constance and brother, Hunter on the Freedom Ride  year ago Thanksgiving from a high-kill shelter when their time had run out. The kill shelter we usually pull from actually told us about this little family that was in a neighboring kill shelter because they were so sweet and gentle and they were worried they would not make it out.Hickory is a sweet cat. He is fairly quiet and low-profile at first, but he is playful and loving and comes to you for affection.. He enjoys eating (what guy doesn't!) and playing with toys and loves doing Zoomies around the house. He can be held and pet and enjoys affection. He is shy at first but warms up within a day or two.Hickory is neutered, received 2 - 3 FVRCP vaccines, a rabies vaccine, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration - you won't need to pay to renew every year. He is ready to come home now to an approved home. Please contact us for an application at GoodMews22@aol.com or call 540.717.4420. November 4, 2024, 11:34 am
