Story
Athena is a beautiful cat who loves to run around and play. She has been with us for about 5 years now. She loves to be on the move and see what's going on around the house. Most of the time she is skittish and playful with the other cats. She loves to get pets and cuddle up to you once she has been around you long enough. She has been living with 2 other cats and she does great with them both. She hasnt been around dogs so we aren't sure how she does with them. She is a great cat and we hope she can find a new forever home!

Story
Santana is a former street kitty with such a sweet soul. He was thin and had an eye infection so his caregiver decided he needed a better life. It took him a few months to decide that he liked the indoor life and now he's very affectionate, often reaching out to the volunteers for attention. He's not much for playing with toys, preferring to watch birds outside the window and nap in high places. Santana seems to like other cats and with slow introductions, he would enjoy a cat friend in his new home. The outdoor life has made him cautious around dogs but it's possible he will learn to accept a resident dog as long as it is calm and doesn't bark at or chase him. He tends to swat at people when he has had enough petting so may not be a good fit for young children. He is a calm, quiet kitty with so much affection to give. If Santana sounds like a good fit for your family, email mdowney@iowatelecom.net to get the adoption process started.

Story
Macy was left in a pet carrier at the City Pound and her previous owner never came forward to explain her situation. She was terrified and behaved violently for the first couple of weeks. For another month, she would solicit attention but then hiss and swat at us. As time went on, Macy began to relax and accept head pets from the volunteers. Now, 8 months later she is showing us her playful side and is very friendly. We have discovered that Macy doesn't like other cats or dogs. We assume she was the only pet in her previous home. Macy is still a little timid and goes back to her "safe spot" whenever she feels overwhelmed. Her ideal home will be calm, quiet and routine. At her recent vet visit she was well mannered but scared and hid her face in the Director's arms. Macy is clean in her cage and uses her litterbox always. She is front declawed and approximately 3 years old. In the right home, one with patience and kindness, Macy will flourish and make someone a really great companion. Please email mdowney@iowatelecom.net for an adoption application.

Story
Millie and her siblings were born to a wild mother cat and even though the kittens were brought to the city pound at 6 weeks old, they have retained a little of their mother's behavior. Millie has a high "flight" response and will run back to the safety of her cage when startled. Of all the kittens, she is the most uneasy when being touched. She adores her siblings and most of the other kitties. Millie chooses to ignore the volunteers and when we try to handle her, the first response is to run and hide; she will freeze if held. Carrying her is a big no-no as she prefers to keep all four feet on the floor. Millie says no-way to sharing her home with a dog and will react aggressively when dogs come into the cat room. She is searching for a quiet home with a routine and a patient person that will help her overcome her fears. Her new "person" will allow her to just be a cat and not expect anything more. Her ideal home is without young children, dogs, and multiple cats. If you can give Millie a safe place to call home, email mdowney@iowatelecom.net for an adoption application.
