Story
Magpie is a lovable, purr-powered explorer with a heart full of affection. Her signature squeaky, raspy purr never stops—whether she’s soaking up pets, sniffing out new discoveries, or just enjoying life. While receiving attention or while exploring, you're also sure to see Magpie’s tail puff up. Once she’s comfortable, her playful side shines. One of her most adorable habits is flopping onto her side and rolling around next to you, an unmistakable invitation for affection. With Magpie around, there’s never a quiet moment—just an endless stream of purrs and cuddles. All cats and kittens come spayed and neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fees are $50.00 for adult cats and $75.00 for kittens under 6 months old at the time of adoption. Our adoptions are done by approved applications, so you must apply and be approved before being able to meet any of our cats or kittens. To be approved, you can apply in person or online at: https://www.storycountyiowa.gov/1486/Adoption-Application Applications can take a few business days to be approved and you will be emailed with communications regarding your application.

Story
Meet Elemenopie! Are you ready to meet a truly unique kitty? Elemenopie is an adult female Tortie with a personality as big as her frame (and she’s one LARGE cat—just naturally huge, not overweight!). She’s the queen of relaxation and spends her days lounging around and gazing out the window, keeping an eye on the world outside. This sweet girl is a people-lover at heart. She’s content with the simple things in life: a cozy spot by the window, a steady supply of food, and the love of her favorite human. While she may need a little warm-up time to adjust to other cats, once she’s settled, she’s happy to coexist and generally just ignores them.Elemenopie is the perfect companion for someone looking for a laid-back, affectionate feline friend. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to this special girl, she’s ready to bring her gentle, loving presence into your life.Paperwork? She’s got it all covered—she’s ready to go!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.February 3, 2025, 9:37 pm

Story
My name is Goomba and I am an orange tabby domestic shorthair. I am a neutered male and I am 1 year and 8 months old. I am here because I was given up by my owner on 03/11/2025 due to the fact my owner had personal problems happening in their life and could not take care of me anymore. They were my family for 1 year. I am a good kitty who uses the litterbox! I am a medium energy cat and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. I do not have a history of trying to escape the home, but the shelter staff always recommends owners be mindful that I do not accidentally sneak out on their way out the door. I can be good with men, women, and children. I can be good with other cats and I can be good with dogs. All cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and cats over 6 months of age are tested for heartworms. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Cats are vaccinated against distemper and rabies, receive a flea preventative, are spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

Story
My name is Cassian and I am a brown tabby domestic shorthair. I am a neutered male and I am 1 year and 7 months old. I am here because I was given up by my owner on 03/01/2025 because I was naughty about chewing on cords and jumped on counters to steal food. They were my family for 6 months. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am a good kitty who uses the litterbox! I am a high energy cat and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. I dash out open doors or windows if given the opportunity. I would do best in a setting with two doors between exterior doors, such as a screened in porch or hallway, or to be shut in another room or in a kennel before any doors or windows are opened. I can be good with men and women, but I have not been around children. Shelter staff think I would do fine with children 5+ years old. I am great with other cats. I have not lived with a dog before. All cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and cats over 6 months of age are tested for heartworms.
