Story
Nature came to our sanctuary as a stray who was abandoned near a highway. She is extremely friendly, calm, and docile. She was found meowing on a few porches, expecting to be let into a house as if that's what she's used to. She was easily coaxed into a carrier. She absolutely loves cuddles and enjoys long cat naps in the sun! She seems to be very calm around other animals and all humans.

Loves to follow people around on walks and will never pass up a head pat! She would be a very good family cat as she gets along well with kids, dogs, and other cats.

Story
Penelope is a beautiful dilute calico who was sent to a rescue for reasons unknown, and as that rescue experienced damage to their building, she came into our care. She has such a wonderful personality. She loves to play with tangling toys with her special short legs. It’s unknown to us whether this is a birth defect or attempt at fixing a defect. She is in no pain, enjoys life and wet food for her snack.

Story
Lacy has been with me since she was about 6 months old with her sister Olive from a litter on the farm I grew up on. Lacy and Olive used to be best sisters - they would cuddle together and play nice with each other. Lacy is very sweet but prefers to be alone most of the time; however, she does enjoy sitting near you or laying at the end of your bed at night (or sitting on the sofa with her face practically against the wall lol). She has a weird thing for feet (when she's playful she loves when I rub her with my feet - weirdo) and feathers on a string. She will hide during anything high stress (visitors, loud noises, etc). Unfortunately, I'm rehoming Lacy because it is becoming more apparent that she would prefer to be the only cat in the house. Over the years, Lacy has withdrawn from interacting with Olive. Earlier this year I got a third cat... he's the sweetest boy and only wants to be friends with my other two cats, but Lacy hasn't warmed up to him... (I will shorten this later)

Story
Jade was left behind when her guardian passed away. It was a long two weeks before she was even found as the person had no relatives. Jade is a quiet and reserved girl who would love nothing more than a calm home. She has been through so much, that she deserves to just relax and enjoy the remainder of her golden years.

Story
Hello new and old friends, I'm Jet! I am currently the longest resident at MHS, which really doesn't make sense because if you ask ANYONE here, they will tell you what a doll I am. I mean, just look at my sweet face! I can always tell when my foster mom needs to get work done or needs an extra snuggle to help get through the day. She likes to call me her emotional support cat, whatever that is but, basically, I have awesome intuition and I make many people smile and feel loved. Like many other cats, I'm a big fan of catnip and chasing feathery toys, but my all-time favorite activity is soaking up the rays My foster mom saw how much I enjoyed the open windows so she went ahead and got a kitty stroller AND a leash and harness so I can safely enjoy the great outdoors when the weather is nice. I've done well hanging out with my dog foster-sibling, who is super respectful of my kitty needs-- aka recognizing that I'm in charge I'm about six and a half years old and would really love to have a family and a home I can call my own. I promise to greet all your guests with cute chirp-like meows and I will help you get through your toughest days. I'm a total sweetheart and would love to meet you; all you have to do is call the shelter at 219-872-4499. Maybe you're the one I've been waiting for. I also have a sponsored adoption fee to an approved applicant!

Story
Hi MHS friends, my name is Libby. My human friends here tell me that I am the prettiest dilute calico in the whole wide world! They also tell me that I have every single characteristic that would make me someone's very best friend. And one more thing that they tell me is that my adoption fee is sponsored to an approved applicant! Okay, now onto some more fun things... I love Churu snackies. I am the daintiest girl and I am very polite when you are giving me treats. I love naptime on my cozy kitty bed. If I get to curl inside my hut, I feel so safe and have the best nap ever. But when you come to visit me, I like to come to say hello to you! I'll chirp a little bit in hopes that you understand I am asking for affection and back rubs. My ideal home would be a quiet one. If you are an equally quiet person, we would be perfect for each other. We could enjoy the calmness and be the object of each other's affection. At the shelter, I am kind of reserved when there are lots of people around. When the room empties, I love to hop out of my kennel and explore! I really enjoy being out and about with just one or two people around. I love catnip. I also love soft, fluffy kitty beds. When you come to spend time with me, I would like to get to know you, then once we are friends, I will ask for chin scratches and your company. Please come to meet me. I would come to meet you, but that just isn't how it works here! I am about nine and a half years old and I'm spayed. Love, Libby.

Story
If you need an affectionate, lovable cuddlebug, come meet Fauna She is SUCH a good girl and seeing her, hanging out with her, being near her, is the highlight of our day. She is totally gorgeous but her personality outshines her natural beauty! She chirps to greet you when you walk in to see her. If you have time to sit with her, she'll climb on up and curl up for the closest snuggles on your chest. Fauna will soak up and solicit every ounce of attention and affection that she can...clearly! Her only request: to be the only furbaby in your home. That is it! She's done great with respectful kiddos and is just waiting for her very own family. She is about three and a half years old and is spayed.
