Story
Kiwi is a beautiful and sooo sweet Cairn Terrier / West Highland Terrier (Westie) mix that deserves far better then being turned into an overcrowded shelter where euthanasia is often inevitable. She is a very sweet, dog and cat loving pup who just wants to snuggle and be a best friend to an individual or family that desires this pure love in their lives. Kiwi, at just about 10 months old and 18 lbs would be a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for a very lovable and fun-loving companion dog. She will be beside you to hug and love on, or a walk through the Colorado mountains side by side is just about perfect for this stunning Terrier mix. Nothing could make this Kiwi happier than accompanying her favorite people everywhere a sweet and social pup is welcome. It's always amazing to us at Farfel's Rescue that these family dogs with very sweet and engaging temperaments (and as stunning as our wonderful Kiwi) end up in precarious situations. Kiwi was a last-minute save for us. We responded to a lifesaving plea that went out to save her precious life. It spoke of Kiwi's sweet nature and the excellent results of her temperament testing. This wonderful pup would have been euthanized if compassionate rescuers hadn't stepped up. But how could they not have? This sweetheart is just an awesome blank slate with many, many healthy and active years ahead...a lifespan in which she can bring so much joy and companionship to a special family. Kiwi may be a bit shy initially as rehoming is challenging for any dog, but with love and patience, she will absolutely shine. We envision Kiwi with either active retirees (she would be overjoyed with the time spent and being at the center of a loving family) or a younger family who works from a home-based office would be perfect to love Kiwi up periodically throughout the day. A friendly and gentle canine and/or feline friend would be great as well. Kiwi would enjoy the companionship and play / cuddle times with a furry best friend. Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Kiwi out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this important training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual or in-person trainers in your area. For those family members who enjoy long walks on neighborhood paths and trails, Kiwi would love nothing more than to share the experience. Her foster mom is working with Kiwi on her leash skills, and this sweet Terrier mix is making a bit of progress each day. She is always up for outdoor adventures..fascinated by the activity around her. Kiwi breathes in the air deeply...so happy to be free of the dismal shelter environment. And then, maybe her favorite part is when it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed or couch. As a Terrier mix, Kiwi's hair will require care and love..don't you just love her scruffiness! As a result of her shelter stay, Kiwi's hair is currently shelter-sad. Our gorgeous girl will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement along with 5 star food is recommended for coat care and general longevity) to keep her hair cottony- soft and very healthy. Kiwi has been vetted recently, is fully vaccinated and has been spayed. This fulfills Farfel's. commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs that won't contribute to the overpopulation challenge in the canine population. Kiwi will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 4/1/2026. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this super- sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Kiwi, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
