This sweet girl lost her family when they moved and were not able to bring her. She stayed with her owner's friends until they found a safe place for her with GPMR. She was born in December 2022.Sushi is a sweetie! She was so excited to meet her fosters Bully mix, that she was a bit much at first. After some decompression time, they’re now best buds and play all the time! Sushi also does well at reading and responding to cues when playing, or gently correcting if it’s too rough. Sushi is a bit unsure around new people, but has not shown aggression, She retreats to her kennel or to her fosters upon meeting someone new. This hopefully will get better in time but in case, she would do best in a home that doesn't constantly have visitors coming and going. She is crate trained and sleeps in her kennel at night with no issue, and is trusted inside with free roam. Sushi has a high prey drive and goes after rabbits outside and tries to chase cars when they pass (she is behind the chainlink fence so she can't get to them but can see them), so she definitely needs supervision outside. A securely fenced yard is a must for her. She likely would not do well with cats or tiny/small breed dogs given her prey drive. She is a heavy chewer but has not been destructive, she just needs age and size appropriate toys. Sushi is good with her fosters 2 kids, ages 5 years and 7 months. She is big and goofy but understands being gentle around them. She is food motivated and that has helped in crate training her. Sushi can shake and sit and is very smart. She is housebroken and has had no accidents. They are working on some manners related to counter-surfing - but again, she's food motivated so that's to be expected. Sushi loves to snuggle! She does need play/exercise time but she usually plays for about 20-30 minutes then rests for a couple of hours, so even being young and energetic, she's pretty chill for a puppy. True to the breed, she can be stubborn. They’re working on recall with her and she's consistently responsive to the foster Dad, but a bit more stubborn with her foster Mom, though she is improving. With a little patience and recognition of her age and traits that are typical for the breed, she'll be a wonderful companion to the family who adopts her. Overall, she really is a sweetheart and a great dog! Sushi is being fostered in Conway, AR. She is a female Mastiff (or possibly mix?) who was found dumped in a neighborhood. The family who rescued her has a little girl who named Daisy Peaches and we promised we would keep her name. Daisy was very fond of her! When she was found, she had infected bite wounds on her legs, scars all over her face from previous wounds and very underweight.Daisy is super sweet.  She is free roam when home alone and other than chewing one some glasses, she has not chewed anything else. However she will gather shoes, hats, etc and piles them on the bed but nothing has been chewed.  She is housebroken, and had not had any accidents.  We estimate she is about 12-18 months old.  Daisy walks well on leash, in the back yard she will venture off some when but likes to keep you in her sight, like most Mastiffs she is very Velcro. She has learned the command 'sit' and we're working on her recall now. We suspect Daisy may have been used as a bait dog from all the scars and wounds she has/had.  She is selective about which dogs she likes.  She doesn’t react to the older Mastiff in the home, but she has fought with the younger female Mastiff. They have to be kept separated as any sudden movements from that dog seem to agitate Daisy. She's definitely been through some traumatic events in her short life and she may have to be placed as an only dog in the home as a result. The good news is she seems to enjoy kids and so a home with kids 6+ would be fine. Daisy is being fostered in Shawnee, OKVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!November 15, 2024, 5:24 pm
