Story
Daisy, an adorable Bullmastiff mix, is the smallest of her litter, weighing just 23kg, while her big brother is double her size!! Daisy grew up in an environment with limited human interaction, resulting in her being more comfortable with dogs and somewhat aloof towards them. This under-socialization with people has led to some "stranger danger," making her best suited for an experienced dog owner who practices positive reinforcement training and is willing to work with an Animal Kind trainer.Once Daisy overcomes her initial fears, her sweet personality truly blossoms. She loves neck and ear scratches, enjoys cuddling in your lap, and giving gentle kisses. Her most endearing feature is her little snaggle-tooth, which always brings a smile to our faces. Daisy has a fondness for stuffies and loves chasing balls, and playing exuberantly with her big brother. With a slow introduction, she would likely do well with new dog friends outside of the home. Daisy enjoys her walks and prances like a little deer, taking in all the new sights.Daisy has shown some stress and anxiety in the shelter, but it is believed that these issues will significantly diminish with a consistent routine in a stable home. Loud noises and sudden movements can startle her, so she is looking for an adult-only home without other animals until her confidence improves.Prospective adopters must submit and have their applications approved before meeting Daisy, as her nervousness around new people requires controlled introductions. Walk-in meet and greets without an approved application will not be accommodated. If you have the experience and patience to help Daisy overcome her challenges, you will be rewarded with all the love she has to offer once she feels safe and secure.https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-cowichan/ Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: White Weight: 21.6 Age: 2yrs 8mths 3wks

Story
Meet Tank, a magnificent big boy who is eagerly awaiting his forever home! At the shelter, Tank's interactions with staff highlight his true, loving nature. He adores his stuffed toys and will hold one in his mouth with big tail wags when he's happy to see you. Tank loves to play tug and enjoys scratches, leaning against our legs like a big cat when receiving them, and rolling onto his back when he wants belly rubs.He can be stubborn at times but he is a sweetie that comes with a unique set of challenges that only add to his charm. Tank is ready to go into a loving home after fully recovering from an enucleation. He only has one eye, but still navigates his surroundings well, although he can be more sensitive to environmental stimuli. Tank is startled by fast moving vehicles and semi-trucks and is currently working on being able to tolerate them. He may occasionally jump towards them and because he is a strong boy, he will need a strong handler to take him on walks. Tank is still learning to get into kennels, crates, and cars, and we are diligently working on behavior modification using positive reinforcement to make these experiences more comfortable for him. His future family should be dedicated to continually working on these issues. High-value treats like chicken and Cheese Whiz have proven effective in helping to encourage him.He can be mouthy when excited, so practicing calm interactions with him and training will help him succeed in his new home. We are currently working with Tank on muzzle training, as it is a great skill to have. With continuous and consistent training, Tank is an amazing dog with lots of love to give. While we have not had the chance to test Tank's compatibility with other dogs, it is important to note that he has shown barrier reactivity towards the other dogs in our care. He also has a prey drive and will need a home with no other animals. Due to his specific needs, Tank would do best in a household without children. For the right person or family, Tank promises a heartwarming companionship like no other. If you're ready to open your heart to a big-hearted dog in need, Tank is waiting to become your loyal and loving companion!💙🐾Do you think you could be Tank's person? Here's how to find out:Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hr. Story
Meet Jolena! This beautiful girl sadly came from an experience of neglect, and lack of socialization and enrichment. When she and her sister first joined us, they were underweight, malnourished, and very fearful. We are so happy to see the huge improvement these lovely girls have made, both in their physical health, and emotional well-being. Jolena is an energetic and affectionate 3 year old Bullmastiff. Although she can be a bit shy of new people and surroundings, once she can tell that she's safe with a person and environment, she's just a giant love bug, and would spend all day playing and cuddling with her favourite humans. That being said, Jolena is easily excited and can get a bit over-enthusiastic with attention, so she'll need a guardian who can offer her a calm demeanor and patience, while she continues to work on her commands and fine tuning her leash-walking etiquette. Jolena is very food-motivated, which will be a very helpful component in her training process! This beautiful love bug would likely do well in a home with another canine companion, after a slow introduction process is completed. She and her sister have never experienced the stability and comfort that a real, loving home offers, so they are still working on their potty-training. Due to her high energy levels, she will need a home with lots of space and outside access, and without small children. We've also discovered through her enrichment activities that she likes to play fetch with squeaky bouncy balls! She's a lovely girl who just wants to hug and give you a smile! If you're interested in giving this adorable girl the life she deserves, please contact the West Vancouver BCSPCA or drop-in and visit Tuesday-Sunday 12pm-3pm.
