Her name is Winter- 4 year old dog, weighing about 40 pounds, who has been living in an urban environment in San Francisco for the last year. In this setting, she displays a lot of anxiety and reactivity toward strangers, neighboring residents, and other dogs. Her behavior has escalated to unpredictable reactivity which includes barking, lunging, and two biting incidents that were level zero to one. We, the current owners are fully occupied, and are first time dog owners who are completely overwhelmed by her complex needs. We want to secure her future with an experienced foster or rescue and avoid animal control taking her.Winter is a sweet dog with us, but the urban 'stranger danger' is more than we can safely manage as first-time owners. At heart, she’s a cuddle bug who loves to relax and soak up butt scritches. When she feels comfortable, she’ll come over, turn her little booty toward you, and politely request more pets, and then circle back for seconds. Chata can be sensitive with new people and loud noises, so she’s looking for a calm, adult-only home where she can feel safe. She’ll need a patient adopter who will go slow with introductions and continue building her confidence. She is reportedly protective of items she really loves, so clear boundaries and positive training will help her thrive. On leash, she walks nicely and enjoys peaceful sniffing adventures. With other dogs, she has exchanged appropriate greetings but tends to do her own thing. She could be happy as a solo gal, or live with a well-matched, respectful dog. Roxie is a 9 yo female mixed breed (Pit and Boxer we think) smart with a sweet and loving disposition. She is very well trained (all the usual tricks, good recall, fetch, leash behavior, & lets you know her needs). She is healthy and up to date on all her vaccines. Long term care record with Claremont Vet. She LOVES people, & snuggles with her cat brother. I trust her with all children or any visitor. She is a good watch dog who will alert you to visitors. She does occasionally have a reactive aggression response if other dogs rush at her aggressively or enter her yard without warning. I generally walk her on leash in situations where there may be other more aggressive dogs (small or large). I run her off leash in appropriate situations otherwise. She needs a loving home that appreciates her intelligence and loving demeanor. Call me or e-mail for more details. Relocation dynamics are the reason she needs a new loving home.
