Story
We adopted Willa from the Animal Humane Society in April 2020. She is now 4 years old. Willa is very affectionate and loving of her owners, and she is highly protective of us. Unfortunately, that means that she has trouble accepting new people into our home, experiences separation anxiety, and doesn’t get along well with other dogs. While we can handle the separation anxiety and limit her exposure to other dogs, we have two elementary-age kids who like to have their friends over, but their friends are scared of Willa. While Willa has never been aggressive towards our children, she has scared several kids' friends by barking/growling, nipping, or charging at them. We have consulted a number of professionals about Willa's behavior and have trialed medication. While progress has been made, we cannot further accommodate Willa's needs in our home without risking injury. She would be an amazing companion for an individual or couple who do not have kids and can provide her love and patience.

Story
Kadabra is a 2.5 year old Springer Spaniel and Pitbull mix. She also has some German Shepherd and Lab as well. She was adopted through 4 Luv of Dog out of Fargo, ND. She’s a super sweet girl who loves everyone and everything. I got her when she was just a puppy, and I started taking her to daycare as soon as I could for early socialization. Because of this, she gets along with pretty much all dogs she interacts with (there will always be outliers, of course). Kadabra has also grown up with two cats, although one of them doesn’t get along her with. As long as the cats are respectful of her boundaries, she’s fine. For a new home for Kadabra, I’d want to ensure she’s going to get the love and attention she deserves. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I’m unable to provide her with this, which I don’t think is fair to her. She would love a yard to run around in, and preferably another dog to play with. Thank you for considering Kadabra for adoption.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there, I'm Trudy, a very timid and shy Cocker Spaniel. I'm only 2 years old and weigh about 20 pounds. Life has been a little overwhelming for me, so I'm still learning to feel safe and loved in a home. I'm a bit of an anxious girl, and loud noises or sudden movements can startle me. I tend to pace and pant both inside and outside, and I get especially scared around doors. I might freeze or even fear pee when someone tries to pick me up, but I'm slowly getting better with time and patience. When I'm in a new place, like the vet or a busy area, I might shake and feel very scared, so a calm and quiet environment is best for me. I'm not potty trained yet, but I'm working on it, and I'm also getting used to my crate, though I can be a bit restless. I recently started taking treats from my foster's hand, which is a big step for me! One thing you should know is that I absolutely love being around other dogs. They help me feel safe, and I rely on them to show me that everything is okay. That's why I need to be in a home with at least one other dog that is confident and social around people. I don't have any experience with leashes, so a fenced yard is required in my forever home. A fenced yard will also keep me safe as I am a flight risk. I'm very sensitive to loud noises, thunderstorms, and even some men, so I'd do best in a home without children and with a kind, patient person or family. Despite my fears, I have a lot of love to give. In the mornings, I do a little happy dance with my wagging stub, which is my special way of showing joy. I'm learning about home life, and with your love, patience, and understanding, I know I can become the sweet, loving companion you've been looking for. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
Meet Cora! Cora is a young Rottweiler mix that was heavily pregnant when she arrived at No Dogs Left Behind. She had six adorable puppies that are now finding families of their own.  Raising puppies is a lot of work so momma Cora is enjoying her new-found freedom and ready to find her people!  Cora is a high-energy dog that loves to be around her humans. When she gets excited, Cora still has a tendency to jump initially but has learned that lying down makes her foster parents happy. When she is calm, Cora enjoys laying next to (or on) her human. She is affectionate and likes to be pet and brushed. Cora loves playing tug or chasing after the ball with the resident dog. She walks well on the leash but does get excited and pulls if she passes another dog. Cora has started visiting outdoor patios and likes to supervise the nearby people and dogs.  Cora enjoys running around in her fenced yard and would love a home that has the time to meet her exercise needs. Outside, Cora thinks she is a guard dog. She no longer reacts to passing people or bikes but still barks at passing dogs.  Cora is interested in birds and squirrels and has fun chasing them out of the yard, protecting her foster family’s garden. Given her prey drive, we expect that Cora would chase cats and would likely not be a good fit for a home with other small animals.   Cora sleeps in the kennel at night and when her foster family is at work. She happily runs into the kennel for meals or a tasty treat. In the kennel, she is quiet and can often be seen lying on her back with her feet sticking straight up in the air. Cora loves to have a durable chew toy in the kennel.  Cora has had no accidents in her foster home and goes outside on a schedule. She is able to sleep through the night without issue. Foster dad lets her outside over lunch to potty and burn off a little energy. Then she returns to the kennel to nap or chew on a bone.  Cora is very smart and has picked up on training quickly. This girl loves to work and would be a good fit for someone that wants to get into canine sports!   Cora is working hard on her impulse control and would benefit from continued training. We think a family without a young kid would be best given her size and jumping for attention. Cora has done well with other dogs and wouldn’t mind a playful canine companion but wouldn’t complain about getting all the attention as an only-dog either. This young momma deserves a loving home to call her own and is excited to meet you!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:33 pm
