Story
Grell is very loving and clingy, will sleep all night in a crate without making a peep.  Does well with cats and dogs.  Prefers a home without small kids under age of 10.  Loves toys and plays fetch like a champ.  Very smart, knows sit, down and paw.  Takes treats super gently.  Housebroken.   This pet is eligible for the PETS FOR PATRIOTS adoption program. Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##2170216##

Story
Jessie is a 2-year-old boxer mix with a heart full of love and a spirit that refuses to dim, even after spending most of her young life waiting for someone to see past her breed and give her a chance. With her stunning brindle coat and sparkling eyes, Jessie is a hidden gem longing for the world to notice her. She came to us at just 6 months old when she was left tied to our gate early in the morning. She has spent the past year and a half in our care—not because of anything she’s done, but because too many people overlook her simply due to her breed. But Jessie is so much more than a label. She’s a vibrant, playful soul who lights up every room she enters. Jessie loves adventures, fun-filled playtime, and learning new things. Her eager-to-please attitude makes training a delight, and she’s ready to thrive in a home where she can have the structure and love she craves. At the end of the day, though, Jessie is just as happy curling up for snuggles and belly rubs, showing off her softer, sweeter side. Jessie dreams of having an energetic, fun-loving brother to share her adventures with as she can be temperamental with other female dogs. Jessie has so much love to give—she just needs someone willing to see her for the incredible dog she is. Already spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped, Jessie is ready to find her forever family who will cherish her as she deserves. Will you be the one to break down the walls of judgment and give Jessie the life she’s been waiting for? Let’s make sure Jessie doesn’t spend another day wondering if her forever family is out there.

Annabelle's story: Annabelle was surrendered to us because her previous owner got an active duty call and had to move overseas. After being with her previous owner for 5 years, coming to a shelter, especially at an older age is hard. We feel for Annabelle, and are hoping we can find a home for her that can love her till the end of her days.  Annabelle loves to be around people! She would be perfectly content to sit on the couch with someone all day! Annabelle adores pets and frozen peanut butter Kongs. Story
Courtesy Post - Luna Rae; not located at SVASC Read more about her below: "Hi, my name is Luna Rae aka "Bug" I am a boxer/terrier/pit mix and just turned three on December 29th! I am very energetic and get super excited when people come around, but no worries - I do calm down and become quite the love bug. I am hoping to be adopted by someone where I can be the ONLY pet, as I love ALL the attention and just have so much love to share. I am up to date on my shots and have been spayed and microchipped. I am also crate trained and house broken! I love chewing on my bones and sometimes climb up in your lap and see if you want to try and take it from me. I haven't been exposed to many young kids so my energy may be a bit much for them and tend to jump up, but I am doing better with that. I know commands such as sit, crate and treat.....oh how I love treats and I have been known to give some high fives. I will tell you that I am not a fan of the vacuum cleaner that thing is loud, and I will go after it so it doesn't get you." For more information, reach out to Luna Rae's human at kejmom729@gmail.com

Story
Beautiful Ginger is a 2-3 year old boxer mix with the energy to match. She loves to play with her toys and run around in the yard. She will be a great family dog with an active family, and we feel she would do well with kids. She does get a little mouthy when over stimulated. She was surrendered with a male dog that she lived with due to her owner passing away. Due to this we don't have any history of her life before. We are unsure of how she is with cats, and due to her high energy, as we always say SUPER SLOW introductions, time and patience is the best way to navigate learning if Ginger and cats can safely coexist. She is dog selective and will do best with a calmer dog that respects her space and is able to give her the appropriate corrections on their personal space. She is a very sweet and loving lady. She also seems to ride well in the car. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. Interested in adopting? Story
Meet Indi a shy but very sweet 2 year old Pit Bull/Siberian Husky mix who was surrendered along with her sister Tivi. Indi has lived most of her adult life as an outside kennel dog so she will need a patient and loving family that will give her guidance and boundaries as she settles into being a spoiled house dog! Indi is a friendly and affectionate dog with lots of love to give! She is an adult dog with lots of energy and is very playful, smart, and brave. She is curious about the world around her and loves to explore new places and smells. She is also independent and enjoys some alone time, but is shy around new people and in new situations, so will need some extra love and patience to help her come out of her shell. Indi was said to be a bit bossy with her sister so we will need to make sure she meets any and all dogs she will be living with. Indi CAN NOT go to a home that has cats or chickens as she is not good with them! Indi has been spayed, has been brought up to date on her vaccines. Microchipped, Heartworm tested, Flea/Tick prevention started, she has been microchipped. Story
*****PLUTO'S EARS HAD BEEN LEFT INFECTED AND UNTREATED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME> SADLY THIS WILL BE A LIFELONG CHRONIC CONDITION THAT WILL NEED TO BE WATCHED ****TESTED POSITIVE FOR LYME AND EHRLICHIA AND HAS STARTED MEDICATION TO TREAT Pluto has been through a lot in his short 3 years of life. He was a stray, roaming the streets for who knows how long before he was finally rescued and brought to our shelter. When he arrived, he was covered in ticks and skin and bones. But despite his rough start, Pluto has never lost his charming and affectionate personality. This handsome boy is a constant companion and a people pleaser. He loves nothing more than being by your side, showering you with love and affection. He also has an infectious happiness and playful spirit that will bring joy to any home. Pluto is an active pup, but he also knows how to be a couch potato on lazy days. He loves going for walks and playing with his toys, but he also enjoys snuggling up next to his favorite humans. And let's not forget, he absolutely adores treats and will do just about anything for them! While Pluto may be shy at first, it won't take long for him to warm up to you and show off his clever and curious nature. He's great with people and would make the perfect best friend for someone patient and loving. However, he can be picky with dogs, so a proper meet and greet is necessary. Pluto is a shy guy that would be best in a home with older dog savvy kids or no kids at all! Pluto does have some special needs. When he arrived at the shelter, he had yeasty ears that were causing him pain. But with proper care and love, he's now on the road to recovery and ready to find his forever home. Pluto has been neutered, microchipped and Heartworm tested. We have updated all vaccines including rabies. He has been given a dewormer and started on flea/tick prevention. Meet Sparkles, the adorable Pit Bull Mix who is ready to sprinkle some love and happiness into your life! She's a people pleaser and will do anything to make you happy. Sparkles is not only cute and playful but also clever and curious. She loves meeting new people and will greet you with a friendly wag of her tail. She gets along well with other dogs but will need a furry friend who can match her energy level.
