To learn more about our upcoming events and to see which event he will be attending, please visit our event page at https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/ (*please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending which events*) Hi! I'm King. I am loving, loyal, and - ok, you made me say it - very handsome. Oh, and did I mention that I am looking for a best friend to adopt me? I like leash walks, especially in calm and quiet spaces where we can spend some quality time together without the crowds. But, I may get distracted by all of the wonderful smells because I really do need to put my nose on everything to explore the wonders of the world. Not only am I curious, I am up for a challenge! I like to run across streams, jump on logs, and hike the trails. I have lots of energy so will be sure to help keep up with your exercise plan. I even like to get in a jog from time to time. And, not to brag, but I am pretty smart. But, for the sake of all those delicious treats, I will pretend that it takes me time to master new tricks and skills. One more thing to tell you. I like to talk when I play. I hope you will come to meet me so we can play together forever, just you and me!

We haven't seen Hazel with cats or kids but she can be tested   Currently Living at: DC area foster home   Hazel is Looking For: My forever home! I was adopted as a puppy but unfortunately my family couldn't keep me so I'm back on the market for a new forever family! I love going to the dog park, so I hope my new family will take me there so I can run and play with other pups. I'd also love to go on lots of walks to get to know my new neighborhood. What do you say? Are you my fresh start?   What My Foster Says About Me: Hazel is just one big bundle of love. She has the softest fur and is pretty gentle for her size. She is the sweetest and happiest girl. She loves her people SO much and wants to spend as much time as possible with us. She loves to play with our 2 resident dogs and is starting to learn their signals for when they’ve had enough and want to rest. She is very gentle on walks and only pulls when she gets excited by seeing a squirrel. She is quite happy to just explore outside. We’ve taken her to the dog park and she absolutely loves it following all the dogs around while simultaneously checking to make sure her humans are still there. She is doing well with her house training and has only had accidents when she is overly excited that we came back home. She sleeps well in the crate when she knows you are there. She is extremely food motivated and has already learned sit/down and she will go in her a crate to get a treat/meals. She is not a big fan of being crated at home alone but we are working on it! Overall she is the sweetest, cuddliest, goofiest, and loving pup and she would be an amazing addition to your life!  Check out how Hazel’s been doing on her Instagram page: @findmyfureverhome_dc   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.    TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online HERE .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Handsome boy seeking fresh start and love! ZOLTAN NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Zoltan          Best Guess for Breed:   Boxer and cattle dog mix Best Guess for Age:   2 years 7 months as of July 2024        SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  45 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! He LOVES dogs and people. He hasn't been seen specifically with kids or cats but can be tested   Currently Living at:   Texas shelter; needs an adopter in the DC area to get her freedom flight here.    Special adoption considerations:  Zoltan is in a Texas shelter that has very, very limited access to vet services. For that reason, he has not yet been neutered. The shelter aims to alter all their dogs but it might take a while. If Zoltan is adopted before he is altered, his adopter will need to make arrangements to have him altered within a month of his arrival in the DC area.    All about Zoltan:Zoltan is one of over a thousand animals in a shelter so far south in Texas that it's less than 30 miles from the border. He has very little chance of being adopted there - but he is so great that shelter staff want to highlight him in the hope he gets an adopter from out of state. He is a happy, social dog who is great with everyone. In playgroup with other dogs, he's good with them all but seems to have a little bit of a preference for the ladies.  Zoltan is just such a good and happy dog. He is all you imagine a dog could be. He wants nothing more than to be right there by his humans on long sniffy walks, world exploration, and chill sessions on the couch after a fun day together. He will also put a smile on your face if you see him running around joyfully with other dogs when you take him to the park or to doggie daycare. He would also be a fantastic addition to a household with other dogs seeking a playmate - especially if you have a female who likes the gents! Most of all, he wants to know he's safe and loved and under his own roof. Look at that face. Can you see yourself looking down at him staring at you ready to burst forth and start a new day together - trotting alongside you - curled up at your feet after a fun day? Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.    TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and transport from the shelter. Story
My family adopted Ava in September 2018 from the Humane Rescue Alliance. We estimate her to be around 7 years old. She is a good family dog for families with kids no younger than 12 or 13. With a good walk schedule, she is very chill for the rest of the day. I usually take her on 2-3 30-45 minute walks and she lays down for almost the entire rest of the day. She is crate trained (and she loves her crate!) and does not go on furniture unless she is invited. She is very loyal, very loving, and loves to cuddle.

Story
Male, 2-3 yrs old, 64 lbs Personality: goofy/funny, eager-to-please, adaptable, affectionate, outgoing, good running partner, energetic, smart, playful, snuggler, rambunctious, adventurous, and brave. Dusty is a big cuddle bug who loves people and is extremely curious about new places, people, and things. An overgrown lap dog, Dusty will also happily sit between your legs as you give him pets. Dusty loves to play tug of war or chase his favorite toys. He'll play fetch for as long as you are willing to throw! He has lived comfortably in a home with large and small dogs and tested well with cats at the shelter. An eager to please dog who has quickly adjusted to city life and apartment living, Dusty is also a fast learner. (It helps when you have his favorite treats on you - hot dogs and string cheese!) He already knows the words "sit, "leave, and "paw and is working on "1, 2, 3 for walks. His foster is working on crate training to make sure Dusty feels like the crate is a safe space. Dusty is energetic and is looking for someone to take him on long walks. He excels in eating his meals from enrichment puzzles, which help to calm his active brain! Once he's had his exercise and playtime, he happily curls up on the couch for a snooze. Because Dusty still thinks he's a puppy and is learning that jumping on new friends isn't the way to go, he would do best in a home without very young children. If Dusty sounds like the one for you, apply today! __________________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Leptospirosis, and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Story
Male, 11 mos old, ~55 lbs Personality: affectionate, adaptable, eager-to-please, loyal, energetic, snuggler, outgoing, goofy/funny, adventurous, and playful. Hi everyone! I am Munchie, your soon to be best buddy, ready to add some tail-wagging fun to your life! I am sure that we can be partners for some paw-fect adventures. I don't believe it's possible to be too large to be a lap dog. My heart is big, and I love giving cuddles to humans large and small. Plus I am told I have the softest fur on earth. There's no need to worry about being lonely when I'm around! Whether you're human or canine, adult or child, I'll be your friend if you'll let me. I am a real charmer with a zest for playing, particularly tug-of-war with dogs and "wrestling" with humans. On top of that, I'm well on the way to being house trained, and I do well in my crate. I'm a champ in the car, and I also know the words "sit", "out", and "no". While I self identify as a miniature Saint Bernard, behavioral analysis indicates a fair amount of muppet in my ancestral mix. Some say I am the consummate pesky little brother, looking to see what everyone else is doing and hoping I can come along. (I'm not above dramatic flops and facial expressions to make sure everyone understands me.) All that said, I am also good at playing with toys on my own. So, what do you say? Let's make some memories and fetch some fun together. I am looking forward to meeting you, so apply today! If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. To learn more about Lila, please get in touch with henryfungchang@gmail.com. Meet your next best friend, Lila! Lila is a loving, cuddly dog that loves any and all human interaction! She loves to play, and will engage in any games you want to play! While she can be energetic, her favorite activity is just to chill and relax. She especially enjoys blankets, sofas, and beds! Her favorite spot is in the corner of the bed, leaving you plenty of room, how perfect! Lila has done very well in her foster home, being very polite, doing all her business outside, and just being a joy to have around! She is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows lots of tricks! Her manners are on point, and she has responded well to her name. In addition to her name, she also seems to know "sit", "down", "shake", and "stay". She has done very well in vehicles in the past, and seems to enjoy the ride! She has slowly warmed up to living with a cat in a foster home, so slow introductions will be necessary for her. She has done well in the past with some dogs but can be leash-reactive, so a household with dog experience, patience, and the ability to handle Lila's size and energy would be best for her.

To learn more about Nugget, please get in touch with his foster at fetchinginn@gmail.com Hello, I'm Nugget! I love to play! I'll fetch and chase with all my toys, but I'm very responsible in the house and won't touch anything I shouldn't. I sometimes growl like a dragon when I get really playful, but just me talking, and I'm very gentle. I know all my basic commands, walk nicely on the leash, and eat all my approved doggie vegetables. I've had many doggie roommates and do well with non-dominant dogs once I get over my initial excitement of meeting them. I'm still a bit nervous around human strangers and do best with new people who approach me with care, but warm up once I get to know you - especially if you carry a piece of cheese in your hand! I hope to meet my forever playmates soon, who can help me feel secure and calm and be my best self!
