Story
Sylveon is a beautiful 8-year old female Boxer who arrived at the HSOV after hours on November 1, 2024 after she was picked up in the Macksburg Ohio area by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff. Sylveon was wearing a collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on her collar .. And she was not microchipped. This sweet older lady has a tan-and-white coat, a short docked tail, and a lovely Boxer face with hopeful trusting eyes, black/silver shading on her muzzle, and natural un-cropped ears. Sylveon has a gentle, easygoing personality. She wags her tiny tail a mile-a-minute the moment you make eye contact with her. Slyveon is not good with cats. Thanks to HSOV Board President/Volunteer Amber Dennison for accompanying Sylveon outdoors for her 'glamour photos' before she started walking several of the resident HSOV dogs. Sylveon was so popular that she actually ended up with two sets of 'glamour photos' (which speaks volumes for her sweet personality). HSOV Kennel Tech Lauryn Hamilton took Sylveon out later that afternoon after closing time for a bathroom break before going to her kennel for the night. The afternoon temperatures were a little chilly on November 2nd, so our kennel techs dressed Slyveon in a stylish lightweight jacket .. which she seemed to enjoy wearing. Sylveon weighs 50 lbs and walks well on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Sylveon was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this sweet senior lady. Sylveon went home with a foster family on January 9, 2025 but was returned on January 21, 2025 through no fault of her own. Sylveon was diagnosed with renal failure during the pre-surgery examination for her spay procedure. We are heartbroken for Sylveon and her foster family, but we are thankful that another foster mother offered to share her home with Sylveon on January 22nd where she will be given unconditional love in addition to appropriate medical/hospice care.

Sylveon is a little cold-natured and still loves to wear comfy warm jackets (or to snuggle up in plush blankets). Sylveon has the sweetest disposition and would love to find a home where she could snuggle up with her new person on these cold winter days. Story
Bonnie is a beautiful 2-year old female Boxer mix who arrived at HSOV on March 6, 2025 after she was picked up on Starlight Drive in Marietta Ohio by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff and brought to the safety of our shelter. Bonnie was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Bonnie has a dark brown/brindle-and-white short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with soulful dark brown eyes, a chubby white muzzle, and semi-erect ears. This little sweetheart appeared to have a friendly, easygoing personality when we took preliminary photos on the afternoon of March 6th. Bonnie 'sat pretty' for a few pictures before curling up on a soft blanket in her floor crate, but she looked so sad and forlorn ... We were anxious to take more flattering photos of this little beauty. Thankfully had that opportunity during a late afternoon/dog walk event on March 13th when HSOV Volunteer Kathy Wilhelm was spending time with Bonnie after taking her for a nice leisurely walk. Bonnie looked to Kathy for guidance, and we wish you could have experienced first-hand the love in Bonnie's eyes as she looked up at Kathy. Bonnie was loved by Kathy the first time they met, and Bonnie truly seemed to realize that bond. Bonnie weighs 49 lbs and could easily gain several pounds to fill out her slim physique. She walked gently on a leash for Kathy that evening. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bonnie was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Since nobody called or came looking for Bonnie, we will have her spayed and find her THE BEST home ever. We have learned that Bonnie's real name is Dreka after someone recognized her photos on Facebook. Bonnie is available for foster/foster-to-adopt with an approved HSOV Foster/Adoption Application. Since Bonnie was not reclaimed, she went home with a foster family on April 2, 2025 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed.

Story
Hexa is a beautiful young female dog (possibly a Boxer/Plott Hound mix) who was placed in one of our outside kennels (HSOV in Marietta Ohio) during the overnight- or early morning hours on April 29, 2024. She was accompanied by her female companion Juniper (possibly a Rottweiler mix) who was placed in an adjacent kennel. Neither of the girls were wearing a collar. Hexa has a brown/brindle short smooth coat, a long tail, and a pretty face with brown eyes, a black button nose, and large floppy ears. She is the smaller of the pair. Hexa weighs 49 lbs. Both of the girls were understandably nervous/scared being penned up in an unfamiliar place, and they weren't quite ready to put on their happy face and pose for glamour pictures in our outdoor photo area .. So the 'paparazzi' patiently spent time with them and listened to them verbalizing their apprehension in the only way they knew how (by barking and putting up a brave front). After 10-15 minutes or so of quiet conversation on the paparazzi's side of the kennel gate (whispering sweet nothings through the fencing and telling them what good girls they were and that they were in good hands), they eventually began to wag their tails and decided that lady posed no threat to them .. And they relaxed enough in order to take some preliminary photos. We look forward to taking more flattering pictures when the girls realize that they are indeed with their new best friends (our HSOV kennel techs and staff) who love them unconditionally. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, these girls will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Hexa was spayed on January 13, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Hexa (and HSOV Lila) are currently at Boxers Bed & Biscuits in Belpre Ohio where they are enjoying an out-of-shelter ‘vacation’ thanks to the generosity of a group of dedicated HSOV volunteers/supporters. They are both available for adoption through HSOV either separately or together). Update: Hexa and Lila thoroughly enjoyed their 'vacation' at Boxers Bed & Biscuits. They returned to HSOV on March 13, 2025 and are hoping that someone will offer them the home of their dreams. We know it is a 'let-down' to return to a crowded shelter after being treated to the luxury/freedom of being spoiled by the BB&B staff~ Hexa went home with a foster family on March 18, 2025 who plans to adopt her if all goes well.

Lucy is a beautiful 2-year old female Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked Lucy up (and also her good-looking brother Duke) after they were found on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Lucy has a black-and-white short smooth coat with an intriguing pattern, a long tail, and an adorable face with a large black "pirate's patch" around her left eye, a black button nose on her chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Lucy has a vivacious outgoing personality and was ready for 'action photos' when HSOV Kennel Tech Bradyn Morris accompanied her for outdoor glamour photos on the afternoon of February 3, 2024. Lucy weighs 47.3 lbs and is surprisingly very strong on a leash since she isn't a very big girl when you see her in person. Lucy has already been spayed and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Lucy was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Neither Lucy nor Duke were reclaimed. We've learned that Lucy is selective about making friends with other dogs and chooses those that she likes or dislikes. Lucy does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in home where she would have contact with feline friends.

Ali is a handsome 3-year old male Boxer who was picked up (along with his best friend/companion Tyson) by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden and brought to the safety of our shelter on April 2, 2025. Ali and Tyson were later surrendered by their owner. Ali has a snow white coat with a brown/brindle patch on his back, a docked tail, and a beautiful Boxer face with dark brown eyes, a large black button nose, a chubby/square muzzle, and short floppy ears. Both Ali and Tyson appear to have friendly, easygoing personalities. We had taken/posted preliminary photos in their floor crates on April 4th in order to present them as a 'sneak peek' to let potential adopters know that these boys were in our shelter and would soon be ready to find a new home. We were delighted to have the opportunity to take more flattering photos of Ali and Tyson on April 7th when the sunshine/blue skies returned to the mid-Ohio Valley. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Techs Lauryn Hamilton and Emma Dahlgren for accompanying Ali and Tyson for their outdoor photo sessions that afternoon. These boys were a pleasure to photograph as we snapped individual photos and a few of the boys together. Ali seemed to be guy who wanted 'top billing' in the group photos and was definitely not camera shy. Ali and Tyson have super-sweet personalities. We've yet to hear either of them bark, but they did get excited when they saw some of our outdoor shelter mascot kitties in the distance. It was interesting to see that they had 'synchronized' actions with similar stances and poses when they were side by side. Ali weighs 67 lbs and walked fairly well on a leash with Emma Dahlgren by his side. Ali gave Emma some sweet 'puppy kisses' after his photo session as a thank-you for indulging him in a fun-filled break from his floor cage and to stretch his long legs. Ali will be neutered before being officially adopted by his new family. Naturally we'd love to see him find a home with his companion Tyson. Update: Ali is being listed as a Special Needs Dog since he appears to be deaf/hearing-impaired .. And we've learned that he is NOT good with cats.

Story
Spice is a handsome 2-1/2 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found on Colegate Drive in Marietta Ohio around 10:30am on the morning of October 31, 2023. Fortunately for Spice, a Good Samaritan was able to persuade him to accompany her to the safety of our shelter and away from the busy road where he was roaming around. Spice was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. Spice has a dark brown/brindle-and-white short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a dark chocolate nose, and short floppy ears. This big boy was understandably very nervous when he was brought to the HSOV. It broke our hearts to see how scared and terrified he truly was. Our compassionate staff and kennel techs are doing their best to calm his fears and to help him realize he is among friends who care about him. These photos of Spice were taken after hours on the evening of October 31, 2023 when HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers and HSOV Volunteer/Board Member Tracy Lynn Moore teamed up to spend time with Spice and to accompany him for a short walk in order to begin gaining his trust. Our photographer stayed a safe distance away and snapped his pictures 'from afar' so as not to make Spice nervous or feel that he was being pursued. Spice is a friendly boy but tends to be reactive. Spice weighs 55 lbs and has already been neutered. We hope that someone will recognize this boy and help us reunite him with his family. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Spice was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for Spice.

Story
Betty is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Brandy Drive in Marietta Ohio. Betty was accompanied by her best friend Veronica who is most likely her sister. Neither Betty nor Veronica were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Betty has a black short smooth coat with an over-sized white bib on her chest, a long tail, and a pretty face with a narrow white stripe on her forehead, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Her bestie/sister Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Betty weighs 75 lbs. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Betty & Veronica outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 and will include a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. All of the babies and momma Betty are doing well ... And "Aunt Veronica" is also doing well. UPDATE: Four of Betty's babies survived but, sadly, two of the puppies passed away during the month of September 2023. Her four remaining puppies (Curie, Einstein, Franklin, and Newton) have thrived and are happy, playful youngsters who will soon be leaving for their new homes. Betty has been separated from her puppies, and she is ready to begin the next chapter of her life. She will be spayed in the near future and will soon be looking for a fabulous home of her very own. Betty was spayed on September 9, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Veronica is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Brandy Drive in Marietta Ohio. Veronica was accompanied by her best friend Betty who is most likely her sister. Neither Veronica nor Betty were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Veronica has a black short smooth coat with a small patch of white on her chest and belly, a long tail, and a sweet face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her slender muzzle, and large floppy ears. Veronica & Betty have been kept together since entering our shelter since they depend upon each other for companionship and a sense of security. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Veronica weighs 50 lbs. She doesn't appear to have been accustomed to walking on a leash but made a noble effort with her best friend Betty by her side. Veronica has a gentle, rather shy, personality. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Veronica & Betty outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Veronica was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for Veronica or Betty. Veronica will be spayed before being adopted by her new family. UPDATE: We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 and will include a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. All of the babies and momma Betty are doing well ... And "Aunt Veronica" is also doing well. Update .. Veronica was spayed on August 6, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.
