Story
Meet Nitro, a charming, funny, and athletic dog who is full of love and has so much happiness to give! Nitro is a smart and friendly 4-year-old male dog who is looking for a forever home after being returned to the shelter when his previous owners no longer wanted him. He was adopted from the shelter as a young pup and now, after 3.5 years, he is back with us. He is a big boy who is athletic and loves to run and play. He would benefit from a home with a fenced-in yard where he can run and play to his heart's content. Nitro is a charming and happy dog who is affectionate and gets along with people. He is a handsome boy who is sure to steal your heart. Nitro is fully vetted and ready to go to his forever home. If you think that Nitro might be the right dog for you, please come and meet him today to see if he is the missing piece in your heart and home. Maybe Nitro will be the sweetest surprise you ever gave yourself! If you have another dog and are interested in meeting another potential new furry member please bring him or her to the shelter and meet on neutral ground before adopting. No need to shuffle the animals around any more than necessary. Please know that 1 mosquito bite can create heart worms and they can be fatal if not treated. It is VERY important to keep your pets healthy and protected by keeping them on a once a month heart worm and flea/tick prevention. These animals are counting on you as their owner to provide them with lots a love and the proper health care so PLEASE make sure you are aware and prepared before adopting. Owning a pet is an extra expense and responsibility but is so worth every minute and penny you invest in them. They will add lots of joy and unconditional love if given a fair chance. The shelter is open Mon.-Fri. 10-1, 2-5, Sat. 10-4. Adopt a homeless pet and save a life. If you can not adopt right now come out and volunteer and make a difference in the lives of these animals while they await their FOREVER home. In order to adopt any of our "bully breeds" there is special paper work that will need to be collected and approved prior to the adoption. We love all of our dogs and want to make sure to place our "bully babies" in homes best suited for them.

I came to CCHS after being found in flood water during Hurricane Florence. I was so skinny and sick, but CCHS nursed me back to health, and now I am strong and handsome! River is our resident superstar. He is a very shy boy but has come a very long way. River would do best in a calm home without small children. He prefers female dogs only. Please visit our website, www.colonialcapitalhs.org to fill out an application today!

Story
Meet this LOVELY gal named Sprinkles! She was adopted and brought back 2 years later on February 21, 2024. She came in sad and seemed a bit neglected. Sores on her feel and hind end raw but she’s on the mend and the perfect loving FOREVER home is put there for her. Very shy but sweet and will thrive in a calm and nurturing environment. She is now 6 years old. This is her story: She came in with many of her siblings in October 2021 after being removed from the yard which they lived most of their life. Sprinkles is 4 years 3 months old, current on shots, now spayed, & ready for a fabulous life. She came in skinny, super stressed out and felt very insecure. She had recently had puppies & we had them as well…as soon as they were old enough to be weened they were separated and have been adopted. Now it’s mommas time to shine. Slowly but surely she continues to come out of that shy shell every day. She will come to you for love and body rubs and is learning to walk on the leash and sees life can be so good. She will do best in a calm & patient home that can provide her plenty of time to settle in and decompress. She will probably hid a bit at first but if you sit on the couch or chair she will come to you with time. Every day you will see her confidence getting stronger. If dogs could talk I feel we would hear a sad story from her. Yes she is shy but as sweet as sugar too. A home with a tall fenced in yard would also be good. She loves going out and sniffing around and just enjoys her freedom from being on a leash. A gentle soul who deserves a happily ever after where she can be spoiled and pampered for the rest of her life. If you feel you can give this to Sprinkles this kind of life please come out to the shelter and visit with her. May take a few times but once you see her the way other shelter volunteers and staff you will love her. Stop by for a visit with Sprinkles today.

Story
Meet this handsome hunk named Bobbi! He and another pup named Cheyenne came in July 10, 2023 after person who found them could not locate owner and could no longer keep them. They are both awaiting their “gotcha day”! Poor guy came in INFESTED with FLEAS to the point that hours later from receiving flea treatment they were still heavily crawling on him. He was missing fur and was itchy as a result. Can’t blame him. He will be much happier within a week and has already started with medicated baths to help sooth his skin. He is 2 years old, current on shots, now neutered, and just a sweet sweet sweet boy. Loving, loyal, handsome, and fun describe Bobbi! He knows how to sit on command and enjoys playing fetch. Super loyal and VERY SMART. If you tell him to sit and wait he will…until you say come. Loves being around his human friends soaking up all the loving one has to share. An MAZING PUP!! Stop by for a visit with Bobbi today and adopt him into your heart and home!
